One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.

       
        Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out.
       
        When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act, she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.

       
        When she went to tell Edna the news, she said, "Edna, I have good news and bad news."
       
        The good news is you're being discharged. Since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of another patient, I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness. The bad news is that Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead."

       
        Edna replied, "He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry."
       
        "How soon can I go home?

    I know that nothing hurtful was meant by this little joke but, in all honesty, this could be a true story. Jim and Edna could be real people whose mental state had deteriated to this point because they weren't able to get the proper care early on in their illness. They could be any of about 50,000,000 people in the U.S with a mental illness. Many of whom will never get the treatment that could help them lead normal lives.

   I would love to have you two drop by my mental health forum and post a little message of hope for those who suffer. It won't take any longer than it took to post here and someone might really appreciate it. Thank you for the humor and have a great day.

OMG, NOT a funny story, even if it were meant as a joke, IT is NOT FUNNY.  How true to life this situation can be.  IF this is a joke, I don't get it........

it does not suppose to be a joke or I would put it on my funny forum, in fact is a valuable lesson I have learned. Sometimes you do bad when you try to do good, or you hurt when you are trying to help. Or the way someone "loves" you only hurts you or viceversa.
