The meaning of "Namaste" - close, but not quite, David.
It is rather "The Divine in me salutes ( or honors) the Divine in You", a common salutation in India, sometimes also "Namaskar" or "Namaskara" is used.
Visited the land of Bharata many times, recently lived for 3 years in Whitefield, a suburb of Bangalore. I practice daily the Sudarshan Kriya, as taught by Sri Sri Ravi Sankar in his Art of Living courses.
Namaste!
