Re: The Lessons of Failure, Part One

Hi, Cheri, Failure? What is that? Just because you do not achieve what you set out to do, it is foolish to decide that a failure has occured. I do not believe in failure. Failure is what happens when people don't try - but even then it is the success of lethargy over impulse. Try anything and the result has to be a success - it is absolutely impossible to attempt anything without a measure of success. Celebrate the small successes and learn how to make even bigger successes. Better still, accumulate your minor victories and win the war against whatever it is that you are battling. Once you entertain the idea of failure, the greasy pole just became your road. The old coot's law.

LOL, Hi, Art, I was wondering if we would hear from you. :-) Of course...isn't that what I said? Or perhaps you were fooled by the headline. That was a ploy to make people come and look...have you ever seen me write about anything but success before? But shhhh, don't tell anyone. Then the ploy wouldn't work anymore, lol. Cheri

Hi, Cheri, Current health problems are making me more cootish and pedantic and circumlocution never was my strong point. I would have agreed with you except for the titles of Lessons 1 & 3. But then..... the old coot agreeing when there's nits to be picked?????? Not often - but it gives us a chuckle and invites fresh comment. We can't all agree - life would be too boring.

Art, I'm onto you...and I welcome your nit-picking/old cootism. I've learned more about how and what to write from my critics than from those who praise me, though the latter make me feel good. I'm just sorry that your health isn't improving as you would hope. Please accept my best wishes for that, and I hope that a little teasing lifts your spirits when your health gets the best of your mood. We'll see how you like part two in a few days. Cheri PS, Do note my reference to the Thomas Edison method...when asked how he felt about failing through nearly 10,000 experiments to invent a viable light bulb, Mr. Edison replied that he hadn't failed at all, had merely learned 9,999 ways how not to make a light bulb.
