Can You Really Recover Deleted Files After Formatting a Drive?
7/18/2025 10:46:54 AM

Just wanted to share something that happened to me recently and maybe get your thoughts or similar experiences. So here’s the situation:I was cleaning up my external drive and accidentally formatted the entire thing instead of just deleting one folder. We're talking years worth of files family photos, travel videos, old tax documents, work backups, and more.At first, I thought it was game over. I even started researching data recovery services (which can be crazy expensive). But then I stumbled across a tool called AOMEI MyRecover Professional for Windows. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I gave it a shot. Here’s what happened:I ran a deep scan on the formatted drive. It took a while, but it started showing previews of files I hadn’t seen in years.Recovered documents, videos, even stuff from the Recycle Bin that had been deleted months ago.Not everything came back 100% perfect — a few video files were corrupted — but honestly, I was shocked at how much I got back.So now I’m curious and this is where YOU come in:Have you ever accidentally deleted or formatted a drive? What did you do about it?What recovery software have you used (if any)? Did it work well, or was it a letdown?Do you believe some files are just unrecoverable once deleted or is it always worth trying a tool like this?Any tips to avoid permanent loss in the future? (Backups? Cloud sync? Recovery tools?)I’m not a tech pro just a regular user trying to not lose important stuff. And I figure others might be in the same boat, especially when accidents happen. So yeah, if you’ve got a story to share (good or bad), recovery advice, or tool recommendations, I’d love to hear them. It might help someone else avoid losing something important.
