Hello my friends, Here is a topic I would like to explore. Tell me and share with others what your definition of friendship is??? Friendship isn't always easily described. The Eskimos, they say, have a hundred different words for snow. Unfortunately, the English language isn't quite as innovative, though it has vast opportunities to differentiate meaning. Certainly, Love is one of those opportunities. And so, too, is Friendship. Instead of different words, however, we're stuck with simple adjectives. Close friend. Best friend. Childhood friend. Intimate friend. Trusted friend. Beloved friend. But whether you use adjectives or different words, few could deny the nearly infinite meaning in such a simple word. Friends are special people. We can't pick our family, and we're sorely limited in the number of them at any rate. Society and mores (and often our own conscience) dictate we select a single mate. But our friends can be as diverse and infinite as the adjectives we choose. Our friends, in a very real sense, reflect the choices we make in life. KATHY

Hello Kathy This is a great forum topic.To me, friendship has taken on a whole new meaning since I joined AdlandPro. At first, it seemed kind of odd to be communicating with people, sharing thoughts and ideas with them and then considering them good friends, all without ever having actually met them. We are nearing 30,000 members in this community now and I have only ever actually met one of them in person and she is now the love of my life. It still seems a bit strange to me that some of us become such good friends here that when someone is down, we try our best to comfort them. When someone is sad, we cry right along with them. When someone is happy, they immediately want to share that happiness with you. All of the same things that make us friends in the physical world are part of our friendships in the virtual world, and yet, we have never actually met. Here, we can be anybody or anything that we want to be. We could pretend to rich when we are poor.Poor when we are rich. We can be collage graduates even if we dropped out of high school. We can even use a different name if we want to. Here, there are unlimited opportunities to deceive,mislead, con and just plain lie but for the most part, I think people here at AdlandPro are actually quite honest. I have found this to be particularly true with the many friends that I have made through my mental health forums. In those forums I have heard people express their feelings and beliefs for the first time in their whole life. I have seen people reach out to each other in ways that I have never witnessed before in my life. We have laughed together. We have cried together. In some instances, we have helped each other in ways that we would have never dreamed possible. All of this without ever having seen each other. So, as far as friendship goes, I believe that AdlandPro has added another, whole new dimention to what friendship is and it is a dimention that I am very happy to have had the opportunity of experiencing. Thank You Kathy, for this wonderful forum. I look forward to hearing from other members of this community about what friendship means to them. Now this is truly a wonderful topic and one that is close to my heart. Friend = a person known well to another and regarded with liking, affection and loyalty. An acquaintnace or associate. When I think of friendship I think of Adland. It is the most perfect place to find wonderful loyal friends like no other. A friend will lend a helping hand when you most need it. A friend will support your ideas even if they seem a little wild A friend will provide that shoulder to cry on A friend will share a laugh and some wild and wacky moments with you. A friend will just be there. A friend will send love when you feel unloved A friend will be the music for your soul when your world is silent. A friend is the one of the most precious things you can have. A friend will understand. A friend accepts you as you are (even on a bad hair day!) A friend will always provide you with a smile even when they are feeling low. A friend will listen A friend will always remember you These are my thoughts and the definition at the begining was taken from the New Collins Concise Dictionary. Kathy, IMO, friends are those folks who through mutual selection we have decided to invite into our iintimate world; where we speak truth to one another and when times are tough we are still there supporting one another. Every one else is some form of acguaintence or another. Dave
