From a very early age, we have all been taught the importance of problem solving, right? But, sometimes we can help people more by not trying to find a solution. To be honest, on certain occasions, sitting by and listening silently and with empathy can be a priceless gift.
Someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one or a relationship, needs to have time to mourn, not some quick fix solution! They need you to listen to them while they are pouring out their heart to you; they may need a silent hug, not an instant answer.
A friend that is ranting and raving about their partner sometimes needs to just let off some a little steam. A smile or a hand on the shoulder may be the best support you can give your friend right then.
So, why not try a little silence today, you may find out that it could say more to them than a thousand words ever could!
