Cheri, I had that problem a year or so ago. I solved it by only using my debit card for cash needed and credit card for the gas station. I had left home with only the debit card on me, had around $70 in bank, but purchesed $33 in gas. Then went to grocery store and purchased $25 worth. Bingo, debit card was denied. As I had a hair trigger temper so out of the store I flue to my bank. I darn near ended up in jail as I proceded to tell the VP what I was a going to do to him if my money wasn't put back in my account. Of course it wasn't put back, he had me call home and get credit card number and with draw cash and put in bank account. If I had of just cooled my jets for 10 or 15 minutes I just might have thought of that myself. No I have been much better at ingaging my brain befor my big mouth. Hi, Cheri, Here, in Spain, we have a simple solution to that problem. A credit or debit card cannot be used in a shop or commercial outlet without proof of identity. Joint cards are unusual because both named card holders would have to be present to use the card. Regards

Tom, I have a funny story about that. Some years ago, my husband was in Phoenix on business and his brother came through town. It happened to be his birthday, so I thought it would be nice to take my brother-in-law out for dinner for his birthday. When I presented my credit card to pay, the server came back with the dreaded words, "This card was denied." Embarrassed, I tried to explain that it must be because my husband was out of town and using it for his trip. As the server's eyes glanced quickly at my dinner companion, a man several years younger than myself, I realized my mistake. After that, I never returned to that restaurant. Thank goodness for higher credit limits in recent years, lol. Cheri
