Hi Kathy,
I have been reading through the reactions of a number of Adlands members to this issue and it has shown just how serious a problem that Cyber Bullying really is, there is nothing worse than a crime that is committed against a select number of individuals who are told what they can and can not do or join especially when others have no idea that it is happening.
But that is what a Community Watch type of a program is all about keeping an eye out for individual members who may be more susceptible to this type of abuse than others.
For example just recently a gentleman friend of mine made a comment that truly struck home, he said that there are people not only in Adland but on the Internet itself who will prey on those members of our Industry who they feel have a weakness and that weakness is usually caused by their need and desire to succeed.
Now some of us can handle that need and desire but for some who also have a need to fit in and be accepted this can become a hard combination as the predators in question know exactly who they can and can't use idol threats against, such as the comments "If you join this group or that one then you are not going to be a part of this one any longer, and if you leave those members that are your friends will stop being your friends." Well this is a major threat to people who feel so strongly that they need their friends. Some of us can simply hit the ban key but others are not able to do this and therefore fall prey to our online predators. They attempt to make you feel as if you are doing something wrong so that they can keep you in line.
Well that is what this forum has been about, putting an end to this type of thing before it can get out of hand and making a stand to protect those that can not protect themselves. Those of us who can not be affected by these types of people are the lucky and unfortunately the minority. However, I feel that it is our responsibility as a community to watch out for those who can not. No names have been mentioned out of professional courtesy but it is important to realize that the problem does exist and there are people who will stand up against it.
That is what IMU intends to do, first of all we are going to bring a community watch and peer support type of Non-Profit Organization to our wonderful little piece of Cyber space, secondly we are going to provide a number of training programs and forums that will help members of the community to have access to a number of resources that are great to help you in our Industry, finally we are going to be a United Voice against Child Abuse on a Global Scale. Also as one of our projects that we are working on to increase exposure for our members is an Adland Community ENewsletter created by the members for the members and an online ENewspaper that will gain exposure and hot leads on a Global scale.
If anyone who is reading this wishes to join this Non-Profit Organization and stand together as a United Voice against Child Abuse then I invite you to send me an email at imusolutions@hotmail.com telling me that you are interested in being a member and we will get you an invite to our team forum.
If you do not wish to join I hope you will benefit from the number of free services that we are going to supply to our community and I look forward to having IMU become known as the Organization that provided some additional assistance to our friends here at Adland.
Now guys let us hope and pray that the person or people who have been responsible for this bullying will get the message and back off and let our members choose who and what they want to spend their time with. This is a democratic community.
I wish everyone the best with each and every one of your endeavours online and look forward to meeting each and everyone of you at some time in our community.
