Marilyn-absolutely beautiful. Poor children today face a lot of difficult challenges. Peer pressure, bullies, and the no child left behind act. I am very proud of my children. Racism is not part of their vocabulary. They see it; but don't understand. My daughter refuses to allow people to pick on the new kids, because they look different. She stands up to the bullies. This cost her popularity, however, she doesn't mind. I have a son that is borderline autistic. He is the challenging one. He is learning. Self-confidence is starting to grow in him. My children have help me grow with them.

I agree with that faith helps major it keeps a child feeling safe and forms structure with good morals in ones life! I guess it is ok to say that it is the foundation. This is a good post, thanks,

Wonderful words of wisdom. I really nag at myself over this, going over the details of my son's growing up years, and thinking of ways I could have handled things better. By the Grace of God, he always had a built in resilience and has turned out to be a very peaceful human being. But I had so many of my own selfish issues at the time, and looking back, I wish I could have offered him more positive support than I did. The truth is, he is the one who taught ME to be more positive, and that is the blessing of children. Sherry GOLD CALLING http://all4webs.com/01

Hi Marilyn, That was a great article. And so true. Children are so pliable, if we let them see that we are always negative they will pick up on that and react accordingly. It is so much easier and better for the child to tell them that they CAN do something rather than they can't. We have to teach our children a modicum of fear to protect them. But not to the point that they are afraid to venture out and experience the many adventures that life allows. Your Good Friend Deborah
