President Barack Obama would love for the American people to believe that their friends, family, and neighbors are all behind him as he makes his way out of office, but as a recent Gallup poll shows, it just isn’t the case.

Gallup polled voters on 19 different “policy domains” (for example, immigration or taxes), and the American people gave Gallup startling news — it turns out, the country doesn’t think Obama gained much ground in the better part of a decade that was his presidency.

When voters were “asked about the state of the nation over the past eight years,” the poll read, “Americans say the U.S. gained ground in four of 19 policy domains, and they say it lost ground on 14 and held steady on one.”

That’s not a statistic any president ought to be proud of.

The policy domains polled were as follows, listed from most perceived progress made to least perceived progress made: situation for gays and lesbians, energy, climate change, economy, health care, trade relations, situation for blacks, education, national defense and military, taxes, situation in Afghanistan, immigration, U.S. position in the world, terrorism, situation in Iraq, race relations, gap between rich and poor, crime, and federal debt.

For the last five, the point differences between those who said progress was made and those who said the country had lost ground were, respectively: -22, -27, -34, -35, -36.

It’s also worth noting that the last five include perceived failed foreign policy, troubles domestically, and failures economically.

Yikes.

The media are already attacking Trump for his pre-inauguration polling numbers, but it seems bar has been set pretty low for President-elect Donald Trump to make America great again.
