Weaver suggested that if John Lewis actually cared about the plight of African-Americans, he would’ve joined the Republican Party alongside civil-rights icons Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. The Democratic Party has always been the party of abuse, always been the party of the Klan, the party that waged war to keep slaves — the party that’s always been the destruction of black people. Mr. Lewis, you have presided over the destruction of black America, and you owe us an apology.
Mason Weaver then urged Congressman Lewis to “be a man” and apologize to black America for failing them. “If you’re a real man, John Lewis, you stand up tomorrow and you apologize,” Weaver said.
