It is called Vibrio vulnificus, a strain of bacteria that thrives in warm saltwater.
As of October 2013, the Florida Department of Health reported 32 people had contracted the bacteria and 10 had died from the strain.

"It's quite discouraging because the beach is one of the more popular hobbies in Florida," said Tracy Brown of West Palm Beach.
