How to Write Emails that get Read
2/7/2006 1:04:39 AM
Hey have you ever got an email like this that just seems to go on and on and on and on and has no line breaks no punctuation no attempt at proper speling and just makes you dizzy trying to make any sence out of it at all.......? A lot of people make the mistake of being careless when creating promotional mailings, and completely lose their audience as soon as their mail gets opened. Don't be one of these amateurs! You can easily create great email using the following formula and a good spell checker. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz I receive quite a few emails every day and have noticed that many of them tend to wrap, making them difficult to read. Here are a few tips that will make your emails easier for your friends to read and will also increase your readership and success when you're using email to promote your business. You've probably wondered why I have the alphabet typed twice across the top of this message. That's because one line in the average email window will fit nicely in that length of text. When you're composing an email, try using this system. Type the alphabet twice as I have done here, and then begin typing your message. When you reach the end of the letters, hit ENTER. This is called a hard return. The other thing that's very important is to break your message up into paragraphs. When there are no paragraph breaks, the message tends to run together, also making it hard to read. The rule is, it's better to create many paragraphs rather than too few. Try to keep your paragraphs down to two or three short sentences. To create a paragraph break, just hit your ENTER button twice. Keep your email as short as possible. People tend to scan emails, and shorter ones are far more likely to be read than long ones. Furthermore, the shorter your email, the more the reader will comprehend and retain. These three small tricks will get your mail read! 8-) Don't forget to delete the alphabet! God bless, Dave
