The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, a division of the U.S. Treasury Department has sent warning letters to several producers of kombucha, a fermented tea drink with many health benefits and a trace of alcohol resulting from the fermentation process. The letters allege that kombucha may exceed the allowable alcohol limit for a non-alcoholic beverage, and mandate their bottles must carry a label identifying the contents as an alcoholic beverage subject to alcohol regulation and taxation.
