Abraham Lincoln was a man that truly saw things the way they were. One example was a trial where he represented a slave being accused of theft. Everyone wanted to blame the slave no matter what. Abe took the case on 'blind faith' after listening to the slave's plea. Abe did all the necessary investigating that was known of that time period. Up to the day of the trial things were not looking good. It looked like his client was guilty. Abe was not a man to lay down easily and just say whatever. Abe pleaded with the judge to have the trial take place where the crime scene was, a General Store, hoping he would find something to help his case. By deduction they figured the culprit was right handed. So abe, to prove this theory 'dusted' around the area where the items were taken with talcum powder that he found available in the store. What did this prove? The culprit was right handed. The same as the client. And it proved his client was innocent! For the dusted hand print was that of a person's full hand. The slave was asked to place his hand above the print and behold, they could see that the slave was missing part of his ring finger to the second knuckle! Proof enough that the print did not belong to the slave. All charges dropped.
