A friend of mine learnt a very valuable lesson from her toddler the other day and I want to share it with you.

My friend, let's call her Susan, was walking with her three year old along a forest road from their house to town.

As they walked, Susan's whirling mind was that of a typical busy parent. She was thinking about what to make for dinner that night, reminding herself about a bill she had to pay, and checking her emails on her phone.

Her son however, had stopped and was staring at something in a bush.

She went to him, checking her watch, to hurry him along, when he pointed and said - 'Look!'

And then Susan saw he was staring at a bird's nest, with two perfect light blue eggs in it.

For a few minutes, she and her son stood hand in hand, staring at it, mesmerized.

Susan realized if he hadn't been there she would never have appreciated the beauty of that everyday image. She would have just rushed onwards with her day.

Susan quickly resolved to spend the rest of the walk following the lead of her son, finding the fun in everyday life.

They jumped in puddles. They played games. They admired a spider's web glistening with dew.

What Susan admitted to me later was that she hadn't had so much fun in a long long time.
