A Story of Humanity in Action ... the RealStew way.

THE MADI TOUCH

RealStew’s mission is to make the world a better place one person at a time. Madi Mboge is proof the dream can become a reality.

Madi is a 28-year-old from the Gambia, the smallest country on the African continent where a third of the population of 1.8 million live below the poverty line. The youngest of eight children, Madi has never physically left his country, bordering the Atlantic Ocean on the west African coast, but he is becoming a global citizen thanks to his interest in the online world.

Reaching out via social network Tagged while at internet cafes and during spare time at work Madi was pointed in the direction of RealStew and started forging friendships through his heart-felt posts on the RealStew noticeboard, sharing his hopes and aspirations for his community.

I want the best for myself and my people and that was why I always dreamt about moving a step forward. Often, I got worried about how my life and the lives of my people will progress. These worries just motivated me to work hard.

In October 2013 Madi formed the Mbulumanotoo Youths Association to help embark on development projects in his community in Niamina Dankinku, one of the ten districts in the Central River Division of the Gambia. Funding transport infrastructure, clean water supply and the provision of educational materials is their chief goal.

“The Mbulumanotoo Youths Association is an open association of young, able, hardworking and development-oriented youths who have the interest of Niamina Danukunku Village at the forefront,” Madi said.

“Our mission and vision is to foster unity and understanding and bring about meaningful developments to our dear mother-land. To this end, we call on all genuine individuals, associations and clubs to join or partner with us and bring the many positive developments to our village.”

Impressed with his spirit and touched by his commitment, the RealStew community chipped in to gift Madi a laptop that he desperately needs as Secretary of the association. Madi says the laptop will also provide him with “a better understanding of the real world”.

“You are the torches that are lighting the path of my life. You all have fixed an inspirational moment in my memory. And that is the memory of having all of you as a family.”

And Madi is happy to be embracing the world digitally while remaining in his own village.

“Life in Niamina Dankunku is a very happy and smiling one. Farming is the major occupation and we feel proud of family. We grow what we eat and eat what we grow and this makes us very happy. However, there are many areas that need help and attention, including but not limited to clean and adequate water supply, good health care system, quality education, good transport system, electricity, agricultural inputs like tractors, power tillers, fertilizers and empowerment of our women (mothers and sisters) to horticulture or gathering.”

Currently the members of the Mbulumanotoo Youths Association make a small monthly contribution to the community fund, but Madi is confident his involvement with RealStew will open up revenue streams.

“RealStew is now making my dreams to become successful, helping me with the opportunity of developing myself to be a light and blessing to my community and to as well gain achievements to greater heights.

“I know the longest journey begins by taking a single step. With RealStew, I will never limit my speed. RealStew can make me go as far as my mind lets me. What I belief in, I can achieve.”

Madi’s dream is to own his own transport business so he can “help ease the problems of mobility for my people”.

He has the drive. He’s engendering support from all over the world.
