Which is more dreadful here? Indeed hard to ascertain.

Francisco de Goya - A Pilgrimage to San Isidro
(Plaster mounted on canvas, 1820-23)

Francisco de Goya - Witches Sabbath (The Great He-Goat)
(Plaster mounted on canvas, 1820-23)

Hi Miguel,

I need a better close-up, but I prefer the first painting, not sure which one is creepier :)

Sorry for the delay, Kathleen. I have been trying to locate a painting by Goya that I remember as the exact antithesis of the paintings in question, but unfortunately to no avail. My intention was that you could appreciate still better the extent of the change underwent by him toward the end of his life.

About a better close-up, did you click on the images to enlarge them? I know it is not much, but it might help.

Thanks for showing up and commenting,

Miguel

What I found is this detail of A Pilgrimage to San Isidro. I hope it won't disturb your dreams...

Here is another creepy work painted by Goya at the Quinta del Sordo. It was the smallest one in the room.
