While I wait for permission to post the Polish artist's image I will bring another special Self portrait here.

Pinturicchio - Annunciazione, Cappella Baglioni.jpg

The wonderful Umbrian painter Pinturrichio (Berardino di Betto) produced many frescos including this Annunciation, part of a fresco cycle for the Baglioni Chapel.

If you look to the righthand side of the archway there is a swagged framed painting. This is Pinturrichio's self portrait.

I hope that you saw the previous Pintoricchio fresco?

Here is something VERY different.

.............................................

Jacob More (1740 – 93)

.

1783 a self portrait held by The Uffizi, Florence

File:Jacob More - Autoportrait.jpg

More painted this whilst in Rome./ A Scottish artist who painted superb landscapes and worked mainly in Italy after the 1770's.

This elegant self portrait is an education in focussing the viewers eye on the artist whilst advertising his skill and profession. More worked as a designer too during his working life.

This painting was owned by Sir Joshua Reynolds

If you frequent my forums then you will know my love of the Fauvist artists.

One of the greatest was

ERNST LUDWIG KIRCHNER

(18880-1938)

This is the artist as a soldier with a model, 1905.

There is a better example but I am unable to get copyright as in a private collection.

Just before World War I, Kirchner expressed in his work the nervousness and agitation of the time.

Robert Nanteiuil (1623-78)

Self portrait 1660-65

This is the work of a French artist who specialised in PASTEL portraits.

This is a portait of himself worked in this chalky medium. This is frequently stated as an oil painting but this is not so. The detail is wonderful and shows how good this medium is in the right hands.

A very informal image, the artist looks relaxed and satisfied with his role as a royal portrait engraver to King Louis XIV.

Wonderful works, Roger. I especially love this one.
