Throughout this expanse, however, were Native American nations who would prove as hostile as the untamed environment. This couple has a hard and uncertain future ahead...yet they were to be, like those to follow, the backbone for expansion throughout this rugged region."

I was already impressed with the lichens on the rocks and then I noticed the little figures engraved in the rocks DEAD CENTRE of the painting.

Wonderful stuff.
