Re: Debt and Diet

Hi Cheri Thanks for the invitation and great topic. Lucky for me, I began hating debt shortly after my divorce 20 years ago. I never really did recover financially but on the bright side, I also never aquired credit card debt again. I don't buy new cars or houses anymore. I pay cash for my cars and rent for my house. This way I avoid paying interest on the car loan and, I only have to carry liability insurance. That plus not having to pay property tax saves me about $4,000 or so each year. There are plenty of other ways to save money too but I won't get into all of that here. I mostly just wanted to thank you for the interesting forum. See ya later Cheri and have a great day Mental Health And Political Forums http://community.adlandpro.com/forumShow.aspx?ForumID=10129 http://community.adlandpro.com/forumShow.aspx?ForumID=9637 http://community.adlandpro.com/forumShow.aspx?ForumID=8212 http://community.adlandpro.com/forumShow.aspx?ForumID=7420 http://community.adlandpro.com/forumShow.aspx?ForumID=8259 Lifetime web building and hosting for under $40. The best kind of money to spend is OPM... Other Peoples' Money. I use credit cards for investments. I get my return, pay off the card, and keep the profit. I think my credit card provider hates me because the balance is always paid :) Kay

Hi, Kathy It's always a pleasure to see you. Financial Services, oh my! I'll look forward to seeing your perspective on my views...mine aren't mainstream for the most part. They were formed through experience tempered with some education I've received only recently. You've touched on a couple of subjects that I plan to devote future threads to. Hope to have your participation in them. :-) For now, I'll refer you to Kate McCrea's post right after yours...your pocket change is a good start on saving if you need to develop some discipline to do it. Pocket change doesn't hurt much, lol. Cheri

Kate, Thanks for your response to my post. Good idea on the pocket change! I very seldom carry cash, so I don't have much pocket change, but my husband does. He puts it in a jar, but I'm afraid all the larger coins go out again for parking meters...he's a telephone service technician. Still, it's a good thing to do if conditions are right. Then, of course you have to know what to do with it! For people who have trouble fitting savings into their financial game plan, I'd recommend taking it to the bank. Or you could use it for one of those treats. Credit cards are an evil trap only if you don't know how to beat the banks at their own game. But they have certainly become one for millions of Americans, haven't they? Read Kay's post for a different perspective. Cheri
