Slavic Perun, Elijah, Zeus ...
As it was for real?

Dear Lydia,

As said, Konstantin Makovsky does not seem to have painted it, but he certainly was a fine artist himself, better still than many perhaps better-known artists of his and Vlaho Bukovic's times. His work was immense and certainly most impressive.

This one seems to me exquisite.

LOL Miguel & Lydia,

Sincerely, like I already said in your thread Miguel, I know only a few Russian painters, more by their names than based one their style and all other elements of their job.

Also in Croatia, there are a few painters who could be the authors, and my brief search was enough just to check out if it is may be Vlaho Bukovac.

As my time permits, I'd try to find out whose this painting is.

Hugs and love to the both of you,

Branka The Speedy :)

Lydia,
I've seen this pics on many different places, and it is mostly introduced as Zeus.
If Georgios could be here, he'd be of great help.
Passing hugs to Moscow :)

This week, the Orthodox and all in Russia celebrates Maslenitsa. Maslenitsa - the most cheerful and hearty folk festival, which lasts for a week. He came to us from the pagan culture and survived the adoption of Christianity. The main symbol of the feast, and Carnival are the pancakes. They are baked each day from Monday, but particularly from Thursday to Sunday. The tradition of pancakes was in Russia from the time of the worship of pagan gods. After all, the sun god called Yarylo banish the winter, and ruddy round pancake is very similar to the summer sun.

Boris Kustodiev. "Maslenitsa". 1916
