Banner advertising still works well if the banners are unique (not being used by thousands of other people) and have some attention-getting text. Massive multi-source traffic really creates a surge, a lot of people are well-known in certain networks, or in safelists, or in the traffic exchange community, but many of them don't branch out away from their usual places. Marketers should make a consistent effort to add more sources, and especially try completely new venues of advertising in addition to their usual methods.
