Hi Myrna, This is an interesting gentleman who was born at the end of the 1800's. Photography suddenly posed a big challenge to artists, who had until then found different ways to portray reality in figures and landscapes. The ability to place many items into one picture that were not nescessarily there at the time the picture was composed were important. The need to portray people exactly correctly was no longer the most important thing. I love this man's work because he packs in so much observed information. He specialised in groups and used this to bring colour and feeling to his work. Don't think for a minute that he couldn't paint. He could. Here are examples of his previous work. Also a couple of different drawings. All very different.
