Thank you ladies.

The portrait was started at one of my classes. The young lady with the cello is my art teacher's daughter. I find that I am still getting the colours a little lighter than I mean to, but, I'm secretly quite pleased as it's my first portrait in watercolour.

The still-life was interesting because I found that the pastel pencils work well on smooth paper whereas the soft pastels need a rough surface. I love working on the black papedr. I will try inktense waterbased blocks on the black paper next.

At last.

I just finished this, My first real watercolour portrait.

I'm moderately pleased.

Watercolour is unforgiving and I can see my mistakes but it's better than I guessed it would be.

Fun with acrylics

Each of the three canvasses are about 5 inches square.

My aim:

To play with contrast and depth in an abstract form

Also, to experiment with framing effects

Back to my favourite medium, soft pastels.

I had such a beautifully coloured piece of pastel paper that I had to use it.

It lent itself to a sunset so I used a picture of The Scottish Islands as inspiration.

I liked the contrast between the light and the darkness on the water.

I hope you enjoy.

So beautiful, Roger. I love the colors, the composition, all.

Sincerely,

Miguel
