Hi Sara,

Thank you so much!

I wear my jacket much of the time here. It's in the 50's in the morning and it's 66 out right now at 11:30pm. It was a nice day as the sun was out quite a bit today. It actually got into the low 70's, a real treat!

It has been cooler and wetter in the Napa, CA, area too, as that's where my sister and Mom are on my sister's iris farm. My sister still is dealing with leaf spot which should be all gone now but it is still cool and wet enough to cause that.

I visit there in September and help get things planted and potted in the shade houses. My brother-in-law has the worst job as he digs the rhizomes out in the field. My experience is that it is up in the 100's at that time but the irises have to get planted for next year. We just take a long lunch break and work earlier and later. We go like gangbusters while I am there because it's an extra set of hand. There's about 2 acres planted and it's just my sister, brother-in-law, digging and planting the field and my 87 year old mom potting a couple thousand pots for the shade houses. So they are ready for help when I get there.

Unfortunately, they don't have time for a vegetable garden or chickens. 'Course there are coyotes out there so chickens might be challenging. It is beautiful there.

Have a great weekend!

Cheryl

Hi Myrna,

That's a great idea to plant onions all the way around your garden.

I don't have a place to garden here. I could try pots but even at that, there's not a lot of sun. Still, I may consider it for next year. I have a bit of a challenge with the irises blooming as they require a minimum of 6 hours of sun to bloom. I move them around a little trying to catch the sun. Many of them did not bloom this year.

We joined a CSA and we are now getting a box of organic food every week from local organic farmers. I can even get eggs and sometimes butter and sour cream. The cherries and berries, peaches, and many more are slurpingly delicious.

We had a garden in Florida. I'd put water on to steam and we'd go out and pick the corn to shuck and put in the pot within minutes of being picked. It was melt in your mouth time.

There's a place a stone's throw away (I can walk there) that has organic garden plots you can rent and I am thinking that is sounding like a fine idea. It might have been a bit challenging this year, though. The regular farmers have used some kind of hoop thing that's covered in plastic or something. They are of varying heights. They must act as sort of a greenhouse out in the fields. I guess it's the only thing they can do in this weather, to keep the crops warm enough to grow.

Have a great weekend Myrna, and keep enjoying what you can from your garden.

Myrna, your garden looks great! Just perfect for one person and I like the idea of onions around it. We had some rabbit problems earlier in the Spring, the young ones were nibbling on the peppers.

Sure would love to have had some of that lettuce. It is so good to just break leaves off and have them fresh. It just does not do good for us and insects are a big problem.

Well, we are still hot and still no rain. Still praying for at least a shower...

Cheryl, you have such interesting things to tell us - at least I have never heard about them. The only way my son can grown anything is a small "greenhouse" and even then it gets little sun because of the trees around.

Have a good Saturday and Sunday ladies.

Oh my goodness! I have never seen a Mountain Laurel plant. It is just BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for sharing your photo. Do you know if they will grow in Colorado? My mom loves flower gardening I think she would love to have one of these in her garden.

HI Deborah,

I don't know if it would grow in Co. The best thing is to ask a local nursery they would know.

Glad you like the plant.

Myrna
