ABC News' Michael Falcone reports:

A pro-Democratic super PAC unveiled an online campaign on Tuesday that aims to draw attention to what the group says is Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's "record of putting Washington's interests above Kentucky's."

The Senate Majority PAC has created a microsite, "Beltway Mitch," that calls the Kentucky senator, who is up for re-election in 2014, "Washington's top road block" and accuses him of being "deep in hock to extreme special interests."

"As a top Washington insider, Mitch McConnell has left Kentuckians' interest behind and voters need to know his true record," Rebecca Lambe, co-chair of the Senate Majority PAC said in a statement. "By acting as a roadblock for job creation, investment in education, and giving law enforcement the tools they need, McConnell has proven he has forgotten the people of the Commonwealth."

In addition to the website, officials with the group said its anti-McConnell push would also include paid content on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

So far, no top Kentucky Democrats have launched a bid to challenge McConnell, leaving it to organizations like the Senate Majority PAC and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to start chipping away at McConnell's record as they try to damage his hopes of winning a sixth term.

Last month, one day after actress Ashley Judd announced her intention not to run against McConnell, the DSCC began running radio ads against him.

Since Judd made her decision public on March 27, speculation has focused on Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes as a viable opponent to McConnell. But as recently as this weekend, Grimes said she was undecided.

"I don't know what the next step is for me," Grimes told a crowd at a Democratic fundraising dinner in Bardstown, Ky.

According to a local news report, Grimes did not mention McConnell by name in her remarks, but did fit in a few thinly-veiled digs.

"It makes a difference as to who you send, for instance, if you send someone to Frankfort or to D.C. that votes against the Violence Against Women Act," she said.

McConnell opposed the Violence Against Women Act, a vote that the Senate Majority PAC highlighted on its "Beltway Mitch" site.

But prior to that...

Ashley Judd Secretly Attacked By Senator Mitch McConnell!

| Filed under: Icky Icky Poo Politik Ashley Judd

Whoa! We're not sure how Mother Jones got these candid recordings of Mitch McConnell and his staff, but one thing is clear- they were NOT planning to fight fair against Ashley Judd!

The Double Jeopardy star, who was briefly considering running against the Kentucky Senator, was the target of what's called an "opposition research" meeting- basically, what used to be called digging up dirt and slinging mud!

In the recording, McConnell's staff reads excerpts from Ashley's memoir and listen to recordings of her speaking, trying to find every little thing she's ever done wrong they can use against her.

At one point, they listen to her talk about her religious views, in which she says:

"I still choose the God of my understanding as the God of my childhood. I have to expand my God concept from time to time, and you know particularly I enjoy native faith practices, and have a very nature-based God concept. I'd like to think I'm like St. Francis in that way. Brother Donkey, Sister Bird."

After this quote, they openly laugh and mock her, discussing how easy it will be to paint her as a loon — despite the fact she is referencing a classic parable about a Saint's appreciation of the natural world!

Pretty nasty stuff! The way we see it, everyone is entitled to their own religious beliefs so long as they don't try to use them to hurt or subjugate others!

Well, it seems like Mr. McConnell and his staff see it another way if it means gaining a political edge!

Mitch McConnell campaign cries foul over leak of Ashley Judd tape
Recording leaked of Kentucky senator staff meeting where Judd's mental health and 'suicidal tendencies' were discussed

The most senior Republican in the US Senate presided over a meeting of his top staff at which they discussed how to attack the actor Ashley Judd, a potential challenger to his seat, as suicidal and emotionally unbalanced, it was claimed on Tuesday.

Mother Jones magazine published a secret recording of an opposition research meeting between Mitch McConnell and his senior aides that took place on 2 February, at a time when Judd was thought to be preparing the groundwork for a run against the powerful Kentuckysenator.

Judd decided not to run – citing the need to spend time with her family – but for much of the past six months there had been intense speculation that she would seek to enter politics.

Some conservative groups had already shot attack ads taking aim at her Hollywood career that painted her as an out-of-touch elitist liberal.

Mother Jones's tape reveals that McConnell was at a meeting where Judd was discussed in brutal terms. "I assume most of you have played the, the game Whac-A-Mole? This is the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign … when anybody sticks their head up, do them out," McConnell says at the start of the 12-minute tape.

A male voice then acts as the presenter of a series of tactics and revelations to be used against Judd, saying that her background was a "haystack of needles" for anyone seeking to attack her. The group discussed Judd's history of interviews and statements in which she has praised gay marriage, criticised sexism within Christianity, and revealed her ties to areas outside Kentucky, such as her houses in Scotland and Tennessee.

The presenter then says: "This sounds extreme, but she is emotionally unbalanced. I mean it's been documented ... you know, she's suffered some suicidal tendencies. She was hospitalized for 42 days when she had a mental breakdown in the 90s."

In a statement, McConnell's campaign manager Jesse Benton attacked the recording of a confidential meeting. "We've always said the Left will stop at nothing to attack Sen. McConnell, but Nixonian tactics to bug campaign headquarters is above and beyond," he said.

Benton said that McConnell's office had notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation to ask for a probe to see if the recording had been a criminal act. "Obviously a recording device of some kind was placed in Senator McConnell's campaign office without consent. By whom and how that was accomplished will presumably be the subject of a criminal investigation," he said.

Judd has spoken previously about her traumatic childhood and suffering from depression. In 2006 she told a magazine that she had spent 47 days in a Texas facility being treated for "codependence in my relationships; depression; blaming, raging, numbing, denying and minimizing my feelings."

Last month Judd spoke in Washington DC and opened up about her own experiences as a "a three-time survivor of rape". She told a crowd at George Washington University: "I have no shame, because it was never my shame to begin with – it was the perpetrator's shame."

Judd had pulled out of contention for the Kentucky race at the end of March, following news that she was splitting from her husband, Scottish race car driver Dario Franchitti. "I have spoken to so many Kentuckians over these last few months who expressed their desire for a fighter for the people and new leader," she said in a statement at the time.

"While that won't be me at this time, I will continue to work as as hard as I can to ensure the needs of Kentucky families are met by returning this Senate seat to whom it rightfully belongs: the people their needs, dreams and great potential."

As well as the pre-emptive attack ads by Republicans, reports had also emerged that some senior Democrats were concerned that Judd's celebrity status would make it hard for her to beat the otherwise potentially vulnerable McConnell. In February Jimmy Cauley, a long-time Kentucky Democratic strategist, told Roll Call a Judd run would be "a catastrophe" for other Democrats in the state, who faced being dragged down with her if she lost.
