Recent events makes me wonder just how safe are we? As everyone in the world is watching the skies for the Asteroid, a Meteor hits Russia. When asked why no one was informed about the Meteor the explanation is that those searching the skies can't see everything. Someone once said that in effect, The world is one big play and we are merely actors. It is beginning to look like we are in the final act. This play does not seem to have a happy ending. As Lydia mentioned, there are talks on the table for Russia and America to devise a plan to "Shoot down" the Asteroid on it's next pass. I believe the plan is to vaporize it. However, if it is not vaporized it will break up into thousands of smaller pieces. Therefore, instead of one mass, half the size of a football field crashing in one location on Earth, you will have thousands of smaller pieces spreading throughout the world, crashing in almost every country on Earth creating a lot more damage. I believe that a much better plan would be to bounce the Asteroid out of our way. Rather than aiming missiles into the center of the object, you create a booster effect with enough force to impliment a thrust effect that would push it into a stable orbit where it can move peacefully along with all the other objects in that particular orbit. The main objective would be to estimate the speed with which it is traveling and duplicating that speed to avoid resistence.
