US-Backed Coalition Bombs Wedding in Yemen, Dozens Killed Including Bride

April 23, 2018 at 9:22 am

(CD) Weeks after President Donald Trump thanked Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince for his country’s use of U.S. military power, the U.S.-backed coalition bombed a wedding party in Yemen, killing at least 20 civilians including the bride. The number of casualties is expected to rise.

On social media, journalist Glenn Greenwald reminded readers of the U.S. connection to Saudi Arabia’s assault on the impoverished country, which has led to what the U.N. has called “the worst man-made humanitarian crisis of our time”—and which would not be possible without U.S. support.

In Yemen today, the Saudis bombed a wedding, killing at least 20 people, including the bride. They killed "mostly women and children." The US & UK - who some believe do humanitarian interventions - both play vital roles in the Saudi destruction of Yemen https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/yemen-airstrike-wedding-party-killed-injured-bani-qayis-saudi-coalition-latest-updates-a8317826.html

The Saudi bombing of a Yemeni wedding party - in a country where they, along with their US & UK partners, have created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises - comes just a few weeks after this orgy of red-carpet love for the Saudi tyrant by the most glittering US elites: pic.twitter.com/z0yRs23Ahl

The massacre at a wedding in Houthi-controlled Hajjah province took place just weeks after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) visited the U.S., posing for photos with wealthy business leaders and meeting with Trump at the White House.

The president praised Saudi Arabia for its support of the U.S. in the arms trade, “in the form of the purchase of the finest military equipment anywhere in the world,” and told the press that civilian casualties in the Saudi-led coalition’s war against the Houthi rebels in Yemen “did not come up in a major way.”

Saudi Arabia and the U.S. have so far managed to escape official blame for Yemen’s humanitarian crisis by setting up a panel to investigate strikes that have killed civilians, which largely cleared the coalition of responsibility.

Human Rights Watch has decried the panel for “failing to meet international standards regarding transparency, impartiality, and independence.”

More than 10,000 civilians have been killed in the war in Yemen since 2015, and another two million people have been displaced, according to the United Nations.

Are These Undeniable Signs We Are in the End Times?
BILLY HALLOWELL

Russian President Vladimir Putin (Reuters)

Are we living in the biblical end times? That's a question that has consistently emerged over the past two millennia, with scores of Christians wondering when Jesus' Second Coming will unfold. It's a topic that famed Christian author Joel Rosenberg has often discussed, as the prophecy expert routinely shares what he believes the Bible says about the end of days.

Rosenberg, author of the new book, The Kremlin Conspiracy, said during a recent appearance on PureFlix.com's Pure Talk that he believes humanity technically entered the last days once Jesus came, died, rose and set the gospel message into motion.

While Rosenberg said the Bible tells us not to date-set, he pointed to signs that he believes indicate that humanity is moving further toward the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

"I don't know when, I don't have a date ... but if you look at all the prophecies ... one wonders," he said. "You see a lot of global chaos .. more Christians have been slaughtered in the last century than at any other time in human history—and that's saying something, because we've been often slaughtered."

It was rebirth of Israel in 1948, though, that Rosenberg believes is quite significant, as he called it one of the "main prophecies" in the Old Testament, pointing back to Ezekiel 36-39 as one of the places where Israel's re-emergence is prophesied.

Rosenberg also addressed claims that "Gog of the land of Magog" referenced in Ezekiel was forewarning of a leader from Russia. Based on his reading of the text, Rosenberg explained what his interpretation of the still-unfulfilled events would be.

"The one-day, future evil leader of Russia is going to form an alliance with Iran, Turkey and some other hostile countries to come and surround and attack Israel in the last days," Rosenberg said, adding that these events could still be hundreds of years away.

That said, he believes Russia's activities in Syria and relations with other dangerous players like Iran and North Korea should raise some eyebrows.

"I don't know what to make of it, but it's not good," he said. "Vladimir Putin is more dangerous to the United States and our way of life than radical Islam. And I don't think most Americans process it that way."

Regardless of what happens, Rosenberg said that it's essential for Christians to pray for peace in Jerusalem and the surrounding nations and lands.

He also encouraged Christians to step in and, when possible, help deliver humanitarian relief to those impacted by the chaos and carnage currently raging in the Middle East.

Syrians support Assad, but BBC won't report it, British baroness tells RT after fact-finding trip

Most Syrians support their president and military, but the BBC presents Britons with a different, one-sided story, a British baroness and member of the House of Lords told RT, after returning from a trip to the war-torn country.

Caroline Cox, a baroness and Life Peer in the House of Lords, recently returned from a tour of several Syrian cities, during which she spoke with a "wide range of people," including government officials, opposition leaders, artists, intellectuals, writers and ordinary Syrians walking in the park.

According to Baroness Cox, despite claims from western governments and media outlets, the vast majority of Syrians are thankful to President Bashar Assad and the Syrian and Russian militaries for fighting Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL) and jihadist groups.

The Syrian people "are very grateful to the Syrian Army, to Assad and, I may say, for Russian help in getting rid of the terrorists. They are the perpetrators of the most appalling atrocities and killings."

However, British media like the BBC have done a poor job of accurately conveying this public attitude, Baroness Cox told RT.

"People are very keen to hear the point of view from people inside Syria. It's widely felt and widely reported that BBC reporting is very biased and very one-sided, and so they really want a bigger picture."

She also dismissed accusations that her trip to Syria was in any way inappropriate or was somehow staged for propaganda purposes.

The baroness explained how she spoke freely with random people she met in the park, "something that couldn't have been 'arranged' by the government."

"I talked to two delightful Muslim ladies, in one of the parks in Aleppo, and that wasn't pre-arranged, and I asked them what they felt about the situation, and what they said was entirely consistent with what we'd hear in the formal meetings,"she said.

According to Cox, her message to the British people – and to the entire world – is very simple: "Please, may we leave the Syrian people the freedom to decide their own future."

NASA baffled by mysterious ice circles in the Arctic

NASA has no idea what is causing these ice holes in Arctic sea ice. (NASA)

Add this to the ever-growing list of things you have to worry about:

Somewhere in the Arctic sea ice, where the temperatures are typically below freezing on even the balmiest days, there is a random pattern of holes, and NASA — the rocket scientists who took us to the moon and want to take us to Mars — can't figure out what they are.

NASA has spent the past decade flying over Earth's Arctic and Antarctic regions in an attempt to understand the connections between the world's climate systems, and to look at global warming's effect on some of the coldest places on Earth.

The missions have a name straight out of a James Bond novel: Operation IceBridge.

It's an intensive, six-month survey over two hemispheres that uses “the most sophisticated suite of innovative science instruments ever assembled,” including laser altimeters, plane-based lidar and NASA satellites.

And with all that, NASA's official scientific explanation for the bizarre phenomenon is essentially:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

“We saw these sorta-circular features only for a few minutes today,” IceBridge mission scientist John Sonntag, the man who snapped the photo, wrote from the field. “I don’t recall seeing this sort of thing elsewhere.”

The sort of things he saw were three amoeba-shaped holes in a vast, unbroken sheet of thin ice.

Not content to keep the bafflement in-house, or perhaps as a fishing expedition, the folks at NASA presented the photo to the space-curious public. They posted a picture of the mysterious ice holes as the April 2018 Puzzler, a monthly contest in which NASA asks viewers to describe a mysterious pictured object.

The post, however, never mentions that NASA's scientists are among the puzzled:

“Your challenge,” the contest rules say, “is to use the comments section to tell us what we are looking at and why this place is interesting.”

Competitors came up with a host of answers: The holes might be remnants of meteorites or maybe dried up salt lakes, some said.

No one guessed “entrance to the fortress of solitude” or aliens, or suggested that they were the non-crop versions of crop circles, although one person guessed that America's space agency posted a picture of “something that's come from outer space.”

Sonntag snapped the photo April 14 while Operation IceBridge was flying a P-3 research plane over a part of the Beaufort Sea that scientists haven't explored in detail since 2013.

They know that the ice there is, as sea ice geophysicist Don Perovich told NASA, “likely thin, soft and mushy and somewhat pliable.”

That means the holes could occur naturally, as warmer bodies of water “make their presence known in this particular area,” melting the sea ice, Chris Shuman, a glaciologist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, told NASA.

Or maybe seals have taken advantage of the mushy ice to gnaw air holes that would allow them to surface and take a breath where breaks in the ice don't naturally occur.

Area seals could not be reached for comment, but Walt Meier, a scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center, told the Mirror that the encircling features, those lighter areas of ice around the holes, “may be due to waves of water washing out over the snow and ice when the seals surface.”

Sonntag and his camera are no strangers to bizarre frozen phenomena. He's a research and development scientist with NASA and is assigned to Operation IceBridge. He's also the one who snapped that photo of the crack on one of the largest ice shelves that ultimately gave the world an iceberg the size of Delaware.

So he has seen a lot of ice and snapped a lot of photos of rarely seen, icy phenomena.

And all of it was explainable — until now.

Salisbury attack chemical can be produced by any state, even the US, OPCW chief tells prank callers

Edited time: 24 Apr, 2018 10:32

A nerve agent used in the attack on former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter can be produced by any country, including the US, Ahmet Uzumcu, OPCW head, told Russian pranksters, who called him posing as the Polish PM.

Uzumcu became a fresh target of the famous duo of Vovan and Lexus (Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov), who previously pranked such international figures as US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and NATO chief, Jens Stoltenberg.

The comedians posted what they said was their prank call with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Director-General on YouTube on Monday. They posed as Poland’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, to address the head of the international chemical arms watchdog on the claimed chemical attack in the UK and Syria.

Uzumcu took some time to address concerns of the caller, who he thought was the head of the Polish government, as the conversation lasted for more than 22 minutes. He told the pranksters that the mandate of his organization didn’t provide for establishing the place of origin of the substance, which the UK claims was employed against Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury on March 4.

However, the OPCW head pointed out that “according to our experts, it can be produced in any state.” This contradicts the British claims that Russia can be the only culprit due to the fact that A-234 or ‘Novichok’ was a Soviet-designed nerve agent.

“So it can be produced in any country?” the pranksters specified, with Uzumcu replying: “In theory – yes.” When asked if the US could’ve been the source of the Salisbury chemical, the OPCW head replied: “Absolutely.”

According to Uzumcu, A-234 can be produced “in any country where there would be some chemical expertise. The material, which is used –as I’m told by our experts – is accessible. That’s the problem we face with this toxic chemical.”

The prankers also had some questions to ask about the alleged poison gas used in the Damascus suburb of Douma on April 7. The unverified claims of a chemical attack were exploited by the US and its allies to justify a massive missile strike on Syria, which was carried out before the OPCW experts were able to arrive on-site for their investigation. Damascus and Moscow denied the accusations, with the Russian defense ministry providing proof that the whole attack in Douma was fabricated.

Uzumcu said that Russia was cooperating with the OPCW experts, who have arrived in Damascus, saying that“they seem to be willing to support the team’s deployment.” He also commented on claims that the Russian forces in Syria could’ve cleared the site of the claimed attack of evidence in order to deflect blame from the Syrian authorities. “There are such speculations. We’ve heard this from a few countries and we can’t verify it,” the OPCW head stated.
