Xenophobic riots erupt in Polish town after local man killed at kebab diner (VIDEO)

City authorities in Elk, a city of 60,000 in northeast Poland, have requested extra police forces to be dispatched to secure public order after mass disturbances rocked its streets on Sunday. A few hundred locals gathered in front of the Prince Kebab diner to light up candles in a vigil for a 21-year-old Daniel, a local resident, who is said to have been stabbed to death in a brawl involving foreign employees of the café on Saturday night.

Under an investigation launched by police, four people were arrested. Although police have not officially revealed the nationality of the suspects, Polish media reported they were two Algerians, a Tunisian and a Moroccan. All the suspects are said to be have been working at the vandalized diner, which is owned by a local entrepreneur.

Speaking about the incentive to join the demonstration, one of the locals said he “does not feel safe in the city” and after the New Year’s Eve event “has an aversion to foreigners.”

Shortly after the gathering turned violent, some people started to hurl stones and firecrackers at the building, smash its windows, broke into the premises and destroyed the cafe’s property. As the police tried to calm down the protesters, they turned on officers, showering police cars with firecrackers, bottles and stones.

“In the crowd, numbering between 200 and 300 people, dozens were behaving aggressively,” police spokesman Rafal Jackowski said, as cited by TVP.info.

Upon wreaking havoc on the diner, the mob reportedly vandalized another restaurant, said to be run by the same people, Elk Councilor Michael Tyszkiewicz told PAP.

Twenty-five participants of the rally were detained by police, and may face charges for inflicting damage to property and disrupting public order, Jackowski said.

Polish media report that the brawl between the 21-year-old victim and the suspects in his murder started after he threw a firecracker inside the diner at about 11pm local time on Saturday, provoking the suspects to come out. The ensuing fight resulted in him receiving two wounds, reportedly from a knife. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, Elk Mayor Tomasz Andrukiewicz called on citizens to not incite hatred and to respect the grief of the deceased Polish man’s family.

“There has been a great tragedy. I would like to appeal and ask residents for calm and to respect the tragedy the family of the 21-year-old Daniel is experiencing. I offered psychological help to this family,” he said, as cited by Gazeta Wiadomosci.

It is feared an incident in Elk could set off a wave of similar attacks against foreign businesses, fueled by nationalistic sentiments. Before midnight on Saturday, vandals daubed anti-Muslim graffiti on a Superkebab shop in the city of Lublin, which is owned by Indian citizens. Among the inscriptions scrawled on its floor and walls were,“F**k Islam” and “F**k ISIS.”

We are not Isis so why they want to **** us ?

“A week ago, someone came to us and insulted us, using profanity. Threatened us and pissed on the wall of the premises. Now it has gone much worse. Two men aged 18-19 and 24-25 years came on the New Year’s Eve and demolished our premises. Both had hoods on their heads. Fortunately, all of the events was recorded on surveillance, the matter is reported to the police,”
the owner of the diner, Shullye Parvez, told Polska Times.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident. If charged with inciting hatred, the perpetrators face up to two years behind bars.

Riots in a Polish town compounded by a recent “high-profile” funeral attended by Poland’s president for a Polish truck driver who was killed in Berlin just hours before the Christmas market truck rampage, “provide a wider framework for anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim mood in Poland,” political author and commentator Srdja Trifkovic told RT.

In general, it is the former Soviet bloc countries which also include the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary which have offered stiff resistance to the attempt by the European Union to impose migrant quotas on individual member countries regardless of their parliaments’ will or public opinion. So, it is really in this context that this should be seen as an expression of nativist anger and resistance to what is seen in central and eastern Europe as western Europe’s failed policy of excessive welcoming of the migrants and unsuccessful attempt to [integrate] them into the whole society,” Trifkovic said.

Global economic reality may clash in 2017

Many of the experts said the global trade slowdown, seen during the slight recovery from the financial crisis that started nearly a decade ago, could worsen.

Emerging economies are expected to remain vulnerable. Much of Asia will grow below potential, putting the latest global growth forecast for 2017 at 3.2 percent. The projection is less optimistic than for the previous year.

Economists called accelerating inflation and a soaring US dollar among the risks to the economic balance.

Dollar strength, weakening other currencies, will influence how emerging markets manage relatively higher inflation, as well as falling business confidence, they said.

As for the developed world, productivity gains have been lacking for a long time. Policymakers will continue uncovering the reasons and ways to remedy the problem.

Improving output per worker will be crucial for the prosperity of the US economy.

"Mr. Trump and his team have promised growth of 3.5 to 4 percent or more, which we see as 'magical thinking' unless accompanied by accelerated productivity growth," said Michael Carey, US economist at CA-CIB.

According to the poll, the recent acceleration in eurozone growth is a bright spot as the European Central Bank continues buying tens of billions of euro worth of bonds each month. That keeps the euro under pressure and makes exports relatively cheaper, experts said.

They, however, see the elections in Germany, France, and the Netherlands as a potential threat which could further challenge the EU’s status quo. That might add to the economic effects from the expected UK exit from the European Union.

The potency of global monetary policy is seen fading due to central banks’ tightening campaigns.

Maria Zakharova: Obama Admin Threatened Russia Would "Feel Pain" for Intervening in Syria - Proved That Evil Is Claimed Right of Mightiest Nation

Russian FM spokeswoman Maria Zakharova
In a recent interview with Russia 1 TV channel, Russian government spokeswoman Maria Zakharova exposes the direct, murderous threats that were leveled at the Russian government and military by Western politicians, in particular officials from the US State Department, including John Kerry.

(Those outside of the U.S. may be able to view the video on YouTube.)

Zakharova cites statements made at private discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Segey Lavrov and John Kerry, and at other high-level meetings, where Russia was directly threatened with "pain" and a "media campaign" to twist the truth of what Russia was doing in Syria:

Zakharova: I'd like to remind you that since October 2015, when Russia's air campaign to Syria was announced, as an invitation extended to the entire world to united in this struggle - not even our struggle, but a threat to the whole world - I'd like to remind you how events unfolded.

I reviewed many recordings of diplomatic talks from October 2015, and this is what we were told at a high level by Ministers of Foreign Affairs: "We were asked to pass on to you the most serious of warnings: Russia is going to be hurting. They will make sure that Russia truly feels what pain is. Keep this in mind." And this came from diplomats during a diplomatic round of discussions.

[They said,] "Keep in mind that everything you do in reality will be manipulated by a media campaign, which will cancel out the results of your work. You're going to fight terrorists? You will look like the aggressor."

This was said in October/November 2015 [i.e., the first 2 months of Russia's air campaign in Syria]. After they failed to scare us --

Solovyov: Was this during the famous talks between Kerry and Lavrov?

Zakharova: I can't directly quote anyone because the talks were closed to the media. I can only say that such words were delivered to us not once, but throughout much of October [2015], as part of the discussions of Russia's Representative of Foreign Affairs and his international counterparts. I'm talking about Sergey Lavrov's colleagues, who attribute themselves to be from the most forward and civilized of countries.

So we're not talking about someone who just recently barged into the world of foreign affairs. We are talking about people who constitute the world's elite. They told us these words.

What happened after that? After it became clear just how openly, transparently, and on which precise targets Russia's Airforce was working, and how perfectly Russia's personnel were carrying out commands, then began the direct disinformation campaign that discredited our actions. Well, the media is one thing, but I'd like to remind you: The U.S. State Department and the White House, from the mouths of their official representatives, directly threatened to cause us pain.

So, those words that were said in October 2015 behind closed doors were then delivered publicly. You remember the promised 'graves' and 'coming home in body bags'. This was said by all: the U.S. Secretary of Defense, not only diplomatic representatives. Then all of this was regurgitated into the media, as a result of closed-door discussions in Washington. But then they went even further. Official Foreign Affairs representatives began to call upon their people to come out and protest in front of Russian embassies.

Solovyov: Yes, I remember that, the words of Britain's Foreign Secretary.

Zakharova: Yes, just one example. He is seen as somewhat of a marginal character in terms of foreign policy, or politics as a whole, and his words may not hold as much weight as some more experienced officials, but nevertheless he said those words. These words, within a matter of weeks, were converted into specific actions.

He wasn't the only one to call for protests outside Russian embassies. He is only that which was in the public eye. All [anti-Russian] campaigns over the past couple years have been supported by official Ministries of Foreign Affairs of other states, either financially or by other creative means.

That which began in October 2015 ended with the murder of our ambassador in December 2016.

I'll remind you of one more thing - we've talked about this. Let's remember the real attacks, not those campaigns with plastic arms and legs in London or posters in front of our embassies in the EU, but the shelling of the Russian Embassy in Damascus. Russia's official representative [to the UN], Vitaly Churkin, would always pose this question at the UN Security Council. Who were the people who blocked these questions? It was the very same people who, through the mouths of their official representatives, promised that we would "feel pain". It was the very same people who, in collaboration with the mainstream media, deliberated how to truly hurt Russia. They blocked all statements by our representatives to the Security Council who condemned the attacks on Russia's diplomatic representatives.

Solovyov: When our ambassador was killed, Trump sent his words of sympathy, the U.S. State Department did also, but Obama personally did not. Is this in line with international protocol? Or is this an attempt at insulting us?

Zakharova: Obama, I think, is a unique person. I'm only talking about foreign policy, because domestic policy is for Americans, and it is only U.S. citizens who should have the right to assess it. But Obama is a person - and I mean the whole administration under him - whose team, as it worked out on the international arena, was bad for everyone. I think during his 8-year term - under the pretext of 'exclusivity' - they became the subject of disgust for the entire world. That's my impression.

They did not deliver on any responsibilities they had to other nations, nor did they deliver on what the American people entrusted to them, on the international arena. This is an obvious thing. And the main thing - of course, I am not a lawyer or a human rights activist - but from a moral point of view, they have committed crimes. They showed us that the strongest [military] has unlimited rights to create evil [in the world]. That's what is going to go down in history for this administration.

Let me say it again: they demonstrated the belief that the strongest has the right to create evil.

This is in the 21st century! We're not in the Middle Ages, we're not in antiquity, this is today.

Solovyov: I'd just like to confirm the facts. So Obama personally did not send condolences [for the ambassador's murder]?

Zakharova: I can't say. I know that we received genuine words from our colleagues in the State Department, I can confirm that. We received an immense amount of letters, and between 19-20 December had to announce that we cannot acknowledge each message and call at a high level. A lot of them we couldn't answer as we also had to tend to the real practical steps of the investigation. We had to send investigators as well as other urgent steps, etc. So words of sympathy were said by many, but what Obama did or didn't--

You know the question is not over what he said now, but what he and his team have done over the past eight years. I emphasize the team that surrounded him in the White House. I think we're going to find out a lot. Give it six months to a year. We're going to find out a lot about the real under-the-carpet struggle that took place there, between those who understood at least something about foreign affairs - that [the U.S.] is leading the world into a dead end - versus those who pursued these mindless policies, illogical for all of us.

No matter who I've talked to, I've never met anyone who said, "These guys are doing great, they're doing the right thing!"

Solovyov: Where have they ever done right?

Exit Obama in a Cloud of Disillusion, Delusion and Deceit

I had promised myself and my family that on this holiday I would do nothing but relax. However events have overtaken my good intentions. I find myself in the unusual position of having twice been in a position to know directly that governments were lying in globe-shaking events, firstly Iraqi WMD and now the "Russian hacks".

Anybody who believes the latest report issued by Obama as "proof" provides anything of the sort is very easily impressed by some entirely meaningless diagrams. William Binney, who was Technical Director at the NSA and actually designed their surveillance capabilities, has advised me by email.

It is plain from the report itself that the Russian groups discussed have been under targeted NSA surveillance for a period longer than the time frame for the DNC and Podesta leaks. It is therefore inconceivable that the NSA would not have detected and traced those particular data flows and they would be saved.

In other words, the NSA would have the actual hack on record, would be able to recognise the emails themselves and tell you exactly the second the transmission or transmissions took place and how they were routed. They would be able to give you date, time and IP addresses. In fact, not only do they produce no evidence of this kind, they do not even claim to have this kind of definite evidence.

Secondly, Bill points out that WikiLeaks is in itself a top priority target and any transmission to WikiLeaks or any of its major operatives would be tracked, captured and saved by NSA as a matter of routine. The exact route and date of the transmission or transmissions of the particular emails to WikiLeaks would be available. In fact, not only does the report not make this information available, it makes no claim at all to know anything about how the information was got to WikiLeaks.

Of course Russian hackers exist. They attack this blog pretty well continually - as do hackers from the USA and many other countries. Of course there have been attempted Russian hacks of the DNC. But the report gives no evidence at all of the alleged successful hack that transmitted these particular emails, nor any evidence of the connection between the hackers and the Russian government, let alone Putin.

There could be no evidence because in reality these were leaks, not hacks. The report is, frankly, a pile of complete and utter dross. To base grave accusations of election hacking on this report is ludicrous.

Obama has been a severe disappointment to all progressive thinkers in virtually every possible way. He now goes out of power with absolutely no grace and in a storm of delusion and deceit. His purpose is apparently to weaken Trump politically, but to achieve that at the expense of heightening tensions with Russia to Cold War levels, is shameful. The very pettiness of Obama's tongue out to Putin - minor sanctions and expelling some diplomatic families - itself shows that Obama is lying about the pretext.

If he really believed that Russia had "hacked the election", surely that would require a much less feeble response. By refusing to retaliate, Russia has shown the kind of polish that eludes Obama as he takes his empty charisma and presentational skills into a no doubt lucrative future in the private sector.

Putin Zings Obama With Vicious Historical Insult

Expelled Russian ‘intelligence operatives’ include ill children, pregnant woman and a chef

The December 29th decision by the Obama Administration to expel 35 Russian diplomats has unleashed a storm of criticism in Russia.

“Can you imagine how limited the amount of time it was and how urgently they needed to pack?” Nikolai Lakhonin, press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Washington, told LifeNews on Sunday.

This drastic step was announced as retaliation for hacking attacks alleged to be directed by Moscow and targeting American computer systems in an effort to influence November’s presidential election. The diplomats—together with their family members—were ordered to leave the country within 72 hours.

Both the timing of the expulsion and its urgency were interpreted in Russia as last-minute petty revenge from the departing Obama team, on behalf of Obama’s former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

The Russians were ordered to leave before January 1, having only one day to finalize their financial affairs, terminate their apartment leases, pack their belongings and so on, as well as to prepare for a long trip home, the San Francisco Consulate Generallamented on its Facebook page.

The Russian Consulate General made clear its frustration and ‘undiplomatic feelings’ toward the President’s decision.

They complained that their kids had no time to say goodbye to their school buddies. And since no tickets were left for shorter and more comfortable itineraries, they had to prepare quickly for the long trip, going first to Los Angeles by car and then by plane to Moscow.

Because in the middle of the holiday season there were not enough airplane tickets left to accommodate the number of Russians ordered to leave by the Obama administration, the Kremlin had to send a special aircraft to take the Russian diplomats and their family members home.

Representatives of Russian Consulate General in San Francisco could not hide the fact that it was ‘difficult’ for them ‘to remain diplomatic’ when talking about the issue.

The Russian plane took off for Moscow on December 31 and the New Year was greeted in-flight by the expelled Russians. Before taking off, the senior pilot announced that all the kids were personally invited by Vladimir Putin to the Kremlin for traditional Christmas and New Year performances.

Onboard the plane, among approximately 100 people urgently leaving the U.S. as a result of President Obama’s decision, was a pregnant woman and five children who were suffering from the flu, press-secretary of the Russian Embassy in Washington told LifeNews on Sunday.

A professional chef from the Russian town of Yaroslavl who had been employed by Russian Consulate General in San Francisco for three years, ‘whose mastery was enjoyed by hundreds of our guests,’ according to the Russian Consulate’s page, was also on the list of the expelled Russian “intelligence operatives.” He left the U.S. together with his wife and 2-year old son.

In addition, two retreat compounds outside New York and Washington that, according to the Obama administration, were used by Russian ‘intelligence operatives’, were closed immediately—all Russians were ordered out within 24 hours.

“I think it is despicable that they decided to take revenge on our children,” said Vitaly Churkin, Russia’s U.N. representative. “They knew all too well that in these two compounds our children spent their vacations. Now it is time for the Christmas holidays, winter break time in our schools – from January 1 to January, 10. To block access to the kids` retreats in the beginning of the holidays – is cynical from my point of view. Such ‘family values’ [they have in the U.S.].”

Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted that his government would not retaliate accordingly and would not “descend to the level of ‘kitchen diplomacy.'” The expression was loaded with hidden meaning full of contempt, often characteristic of Putin’s statements—but one might need a master’s degree in Russian history to get it:

In the last quarter of the 19th century, the Russian tsar passed a famous law that gave representatives of the lower classes access to higher education. It was nicknamed “the law on kitchen servants’ children.”

Additionally, after the Bolshevik revolution of 1917, Vladimir Lenin once famously stated that Communists would create a new type of state governance where “every female kitchen servant must learn how to run the state.”

With his expression of ‘kitchen diplomacy,’ Putin equated Obama and his team to a group of unprofessional ‘female kitchen servants’ that only accidentally grabbed the reins of state governance, incapable of professionally running U.S. foreign policy.

Not wanting to ruin his ties with the coming White House administration, Putin opted not to expel U.S. diplomats from Moscow in retaliation. He instead invited the kids of American diplomats to the Kremlin Christmas and New Year performances. He also wished the U.S. President Barack Obama and his family a happy coming new year.
