A man only known as Zhang told HSW.cn claims he heard a deep sound in the sky at around 1pm on Friday and saw an object falling.

He said: "It made a loud bang when it hit the ground. Then it started burning. The dry grass nearby was quickly set aflame."

According to HSW.cn, police found items that could be related to the incident in three locations in the south-western part of Fugu county.

One of the objects found near the crater, was a large metal ring with letters and numbers marked on the surface.

It is believed that the ring crashed on top of a roof of a house.

The unusual event has attracted many speculations on Chinese social networking site QQ.com.

Some believe the object could be coming from a supposed UFO.

One user wrote: "It must have fallen from a crashed alien spacecraft."

Another added: "The ring looks like the door of a UFO cabin".

"It must have been the wheel of an alien's vehicle," another speculated.

One user suggested: "I will look to the sky while I am walking."

Police are investigating the incident and all objects found have been sent for testing.

Earlier this month, footage of what “appears” to be UFO arriving via a wormhole has sparked an online debate as to whether we are really alone in the universe.

AVERY JACKSON

‘National Geographic’ just made history with its new cover

Jackson rose to stardom last year when she began documenting her transition with “Avery Chats,” a series of YouTube videos describing how she came to understand her identity at such a young age and eventually came out to her parents as trans.

“When I was born, doctors said I was a boy, but I knew in my heart I was a girl,” Jackson explained in her first video. “So I may have some boy body parts, but that’s not wrong, that is OK.”

The National Geographic cover features a quote from Jackson which echoes the messages that have been central to her advocacy since she began: that she’s always been sure of her gender and that she loves who she is.

“The best thing about being a girl is, now I don’t have to pretend to be a boy,” the quote reads.

The issue is out on December 27. An accompanying documentary produced by National Geographic and hosted by Katie Couric is set to premiere in early February. Speaking to NBC Out, National Geographic editor-in-chief Susan Goldberg said that the both the upcoming issue of the magazine and the documentary are an attempt to tell the stories of transgender people that might not necessarily get widespread coverage otherwise.

“We wanted to look at how traditional gender roles play out all over the world, but also look into gender as a spectrum,” Goldberg said. “There’s lots of coverage on celebrities, but there wasn’t an understanding on real people and the issues we face every day in classrooms or workplaces in regards to gender.”

'Life threatening' arctic blast chills northern United States with temperatures dropping to minus THIRTY - as forecasters warn of heavy snowfall and frostbite risk

    • · National Weather Service warns residents of Montana and North Dakota to guard against hypothermia
    • · Authorities say exposure of 10 minutes or less of frigid air in these areas could leave people with frostbite
    • · Weather forecast calls for temperatures of around minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit in Montana
    • · Bitter cold comes from blast of arctic air blowing south from Canada across the US border
    • · Extreme cold has joined forces with a storm that has moved in from the Pacific Ocean, bringing snowfall
    • · Up to 6 inches of snowfall is anticipated in Wisconsin, Indiana, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine

Winter has taken the northern United States by storm this weekend – quite literally – with 'life threatening cold' hitting the North Dakota area and snow and ice complicating holiday travel in the Midwest and Northeast.

The arctic air that has chilled large swaths of the northern United States for days will culminate this weekend with dangerous cold in Montana and North Dakota as heavy snow falls in other parts of the country, officials said.

People in North Dakota face 'life threatening cold' and the risk of frostbite with exposure of 10 minutes or less, the National Weather Service (NWS) said in an advisory.

In Montana, dangerous wind chills are expected to last through Saturday afternoon and people should guard against hypothermia, the NWS said.

Temperatures in parts of Montana could plummet to record lows for this day of around minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 34 degrees Celsius), meteorologist Kenneth James of the Weather Prediction Center said in a phone interview.

The bitter cold comes from a blast of arctic air - the second one this week - blowing south from Canada across the US border into the northern plain states and the Midwest, NWS officials said.

It has joined forces with a storm that swept in from the Pacific Ocean, bringing snowfall to large sections of the northern United States as it chugs across the country to the East Coast, they said.

Areas of Wisconsin, Indiana, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine will see the heaviest snowfall from the storm on Saturday, with up to 6 inches (15 cm) of accumulation possible in those regions, James said.

Despite the brief reprieve, cold temperatures are expected to return Sunday night throughout much of the country

Windy and cold conditions will continue in the northern plains, but the eastern seaboard stretching from Boston to Florida will see unseasonably high temperatures

Temperatures on Monday night will dip into the teens and twenties for much of the Northeast, while Montana and North Dakota will see a welcome rise in temperatures

The stormy conditions of the weekend will give way to more calmer conditions on Monday

The weekend will bring rain and snow precipitation to wide swaths of the United States

And the extreme weather could snarl traffic in several parts of the country this weekend, from north-central Montana where the NWS warned of the possibility of drifting snow on roads to Philadelphia where the forecast calls for icy rain.

Americans living in areas affected by the cold weather have some relief on the way.

'It really begins petering out by about Monday morning,' James said.

How cold has it been?

Boston, which shivered in the arctic air after it blew in from the Midwest, on Friday experienced the coldest temperatures for that day since 1883, according to the NWS.

Schools were closed and officials warned residents to cover up or stay indoors.

In New York, a winter weather advisory was declared until 11am on Saturday.

The snowfall began early Saturday morning, with 1.8 inches reported in Central Park by 8am, according to the NWS.

By the time the snow turns into sleet and rain on Saturday afternoon, the city could see a total of between two and four inches.

Magnitude 8.0 quake hits east of Papua New Guinea, tsunami warning issued

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 struck 157 km (98 miles) east of Rabaul in Papua New Guinea on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported, prompting a warning about tsunami waves across parts of the archipelago.

"Tsunami waves have been observed," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said, warning that waves reaching one to three metres above the tide level were possible along some of Papua New Guinea's coastlines. It said any tsunami waves would hit within the next two hours.

The PTWC cancelled an earlier tsunami warning that encompassed Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Nauru, Kosrae and Vanuatu after the quake, which struck the New Ireland region of Papua New Guinea at a depth of 103.2 km.

Any tsunami waves in countries other than Papua New Guinea were forecast to be less than 0.3 metres, the PTWC said.

New Zealand also cancelled an earlier tsunami warning, while Hawaii and Australia said there was no threat to their coastlines.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, which the USGS initially measured at magnitude 8 and at a depth of 73 kms.

Quakes are common in Papua New Guinea, which sits on the Pacific's "Ring of Fire", a hotspot for seismic activity due to friction between tectonic plates.
