Sheriff Confirms Husband's Chilling Details on Sherri Papini's Condition After Alleged Abduction

WATCH Sheriff Says California 'Super Mom' Was Branded with a 'Message'

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office has confirmed new information about Sherri Papini's startling condition following her alleged kidnapping.

Keith Papini told ABC News in an exclusive statement that his wife's face was "covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings." He added that the bridge of her nose was broken and her signature blonde hair had been chopped off.

"I was familiar with those details," Sheriff Tom Bosenko said this morning on "GMA." "We had not released them yet to the public."

Papini who was found alive on Thanksgiving, three weeks after her apparent abduction.

Authorities are hunting for the alleged kidnappers, who Papini said dropped her off 150 miles from her California home on Nov. 24. The 34-year-old was able to flag down help even though she was bound with restraints.

Bosenko said investigators spoke with Papini again yesterday about her ordeal.

"Our investigators did an interview yesterday with her, a follow-up interview from Thanksgiving day," he said. "They spoke to her for several hours and then late afternoon, early evening they were going over her interview and planned to interview her again today."

Keith Papini told "GMA" exclusively that he was grateful to thousands of people who have reached out to his family during what he called "this torturous journey." He also addressed online comments that his wife's kidnapping may be a hoax.

But Bosenko said police have no reason to doubt Papini's story.

"So far we are investigating this as a kidnapping-abduction and everything that she is providing us thus far is indicating that," he said.

"We currently don't have a known motive or reason for this abduction," Bosenko added. "We don't know if it was targeted to her specifically, or a random abduction."

Bosenko confirmed reports that negative comments about Hispanics were posted online under Papini's maiden name. Bosenko did not explain where these comments were posted or what exactly was said.

"This is a definitely a unique occurrence," Bosenko said. "Our investigators are still actively working the case as they have been since Nov. 2."

Based on Papini's description of her apparent captors, Bosenko said authorities are searching for two Hispanic female adults driving an SUV.

"And that's all that we have regarding the description," he said. "We hope to have a little more later today."

Putin didn’t undermine the election. We did.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. (Associated Press)

Three weeks after Election Day, allegations of Russian interference in the contest continue to appear. Adm. Michael S. Rogers, director of the National Security Agency, stated that there was a “conscious effort by a nation-state to achieve a specific end.” Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has formally called for a recount in Wisconsin, citing reports of potential outside hacking. Hillary Clinton’s campaign has joined the call, even though a campaign lawyer admits that her team has “not uncovered any actionable evidence of hacking or outside attempts to alter the voting technology.” The Post features an articlealleging that independent research reveals that Russia ran a “sophisticated propaganda campaign” to interfere in our elections, weaken Clinton and discredit our democracy. But much of the research cited comes from a group that insists on remaining anonymous and bases its conclusions on murky methodology.

Clearly somebody hacked into the Democratic National Committee computers and into Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s email. The intelligence agencies state that the former was done by hackers supported by or promoted by Russia. The agencies have been less clear about the source of the latter. Clinton campaign spokespeople have suggested that the Podesta emails — and the election eve machinations of FBI Director James B. Comey, who no one argues is a Russian stooge — contributed to Donald Trump’s victory. Somehow Comey’s announcement and the dribble of stories out of Podesta’s email forced the Clinton campaign to close with salvos of ads attacking Trump’s character rather than those rousing voters to a clear vision and agenda to make this country work for working people.

What were Russian President Vladimir Putin’s purposes in meddling with the U.S. election, if in fact he did so? (Putin dismisses the charge as “hysteria,” and cybersecurity experts argue there is no hard evidence.)

The Economist argues that “the Kremlin’s main objectives are to discredit the institutions of democratic elections and free press, and to weaken both candidates as much as possible.” It sought to make the election “look messy,” the Economist argues, and to “damage the brand.”

If we’re going to use market lingo — “damage the brand” — in reference to democratic elections, let’s consider Putin’s ROI, his return on (alleged) investment. The two candidates used billions in free airtime and spent more than $1 billion, almost all of it on negative ads, to “weaken” their opponents “as much as possible.” This was, as Trump says, the nastiest campaign not because of anything Russians did, but because of the candidates’ choices.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country is ready to fully restore relations with the United States in an on-camera statement congratulating President-elect Donald Trump for his win against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. (Reuters)

We didn’t really learn anything from the hacked DNC emails or Podesta emails that we didn’t already know. And those hacks surely aren’t what brought “discredit” to “democratic elections and the free press.” The mainstream media wallowed in horse-race reporting and “gotcha” journalism while devoting little attention to the platforms and promises of the two candidates. It was the media, not Putin, who decided that catastrophic climate change didn’t merit even one question during the course of the presidential debates, or decided that the troubling foreign-policy views of both the hawkish Clinton and the blustery Trump needed less probing than Clinton’s emails or Trump’s potty mouth.

Our election system is embarrassing not for anything Putin allegedly did. In the “world’s strongest democracy,” this is the second presidential election in the past five in which the winner of the popular vote has lost. In U.S. elections, money talks louder than elsewhere, simply because we spend so much more of it — a record $6.8 billion spent in the 2016 presidential and congressional elections. Yet our turnout — 58 percent of eligible voters this year — is among the lowest of all democracies’. It is only in U.S. elections that money is considered protected speech and corporations pass for people. In this year’s elections, the Brennan Center for Justice reports that 15 states had new restrictions on the right to vote, part of a systematic, partisan effort by Republicans to suppress the vote, particularly the vote of people of color. Gerrymandered congressional districts make it so that Democrats must win the popular vote by an overwhelming margin to have any hope of winning a majority in Congress. The Russian-state-funded RT may report on these grotesqueries, but Putin didn’t create them. If we want to keep foreign powers from “discrediting” U.S. elections, we might start by cleaning up a broken system.

The hysteria being drummed up around Putin’s alleged intervention in the U.S. elections isn’t accidental. Neoconservatives and liberal interventionists have been pumping for a new cold war with Russia. Now, with Trump suggesting that he might seek a new detente with Russia, cooperate to attack the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, and cool tensions over Ukraine, hyping Putin’s alleged intervention in our elections makes any cooperation more difficult.

In this situation, the press has to be careful that its reporting doesn’t peddle fear and neo-McCarthyite slurs rather than fact. For example, The Post’s front-page article touted “independent researchers” making the sensational claim that Russian propaganda efforts in the election “were viewed more than 213 million times” on Facebook alone. But the primary source of the report was the anonymous executive director of PropOrNot, which apparently started up just this summer and refuses to release the names of its leaders or the sources of its funds. PropOrNot, The Post reported, maintains a list of more than 200 websites that it claims were “routine peddlers of Russian propaganda” during the election. These include RT and Sputnik News, which are funded by the Russian government, but also independent sites such as Naked Capitalism, Truthout and the right-wing Drudge Report.

It doesn’t take alleged Russian propaganda operations to reveal that the way we run elections is a disgrace. Leaders of both parties, if they had any concern for the republic, would move expeditiously to reform our election laws. And it doesn’t take Russian hackers to discredit our free press. Shoddy and shallow reporting on the election contributes more than enough to do that. Putin may be an authoritarian leader and a master strategist. But he didn’t undermine American elections. We do that to ourselves.

Wave of blazes blamed on divine retribution

Shabbat desecration, planned uprooting of West Bank outposts and muezzin-muffling bill all seen as bringing damnation upon Israel

While Israeli officials have blamed a rash of fires on a mix of negligence, uncooperative weather and terror-minded firebugs, some Jewish and Muslim religious “authorities” have fingered a more powerful arsonist: God.

Leading Sephardic Rabbi Tzion Boaron asserted that the dozens of fires that destroyed hundreds of homes and forced tens of thousands to flee their homes was punishment for widespread Shabbat desecration.

“Fire only exists where the Shabbat is desecrated,” Boaron said, quoting a passage from the Talmud (Shabbat 119b).

The same passage was invoked in December 2010 by former Sephardic chief rabbi of Israel, Ovadia Yosef, in relation to the devastating Camel forest fire in which 44 people died.

“It is no coincidence, these things happen to evoke Shabbat observance,” Boaron said according to the Walla news website.

He expressed concern that the growing number of businesses open on Shabbat would make Israel “just like Europe.”

Last week, a leading figure in Israel’s settlement movement asserted the fires were divine punishment for the government’s plans to uproot certain West Bank settlements.

Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, of the settler community of Elon Moreh, made the controversial statement about the 110 fires recorded in recent days in Israel in a pamphlet published Thursday, the news site Srugim reported.

“Strong winds usually carry rain but now all is dry and flammable. It is God’s hand that does it. The Israeli government is delaying the approval of the Regulation Law,” Levanon wrote in reference to a bill designed to legalize Amona and other West Bank outposts that the Supreme Court have determined to be illegal.

“Until the disgrace of the threat of eviction is lifted from Amona, Ofra and elsewhere, no rain will fall,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, a senior Hamas official said the fires were punishment for the bill being discussed in the Knesset to limit the volume of calls to prayer at mosques in Israel.

“The fires that broke out in various places in occupied Palestine are a sign of the outrage against the Zionists from the heavens,” Mushir al-Masri said at a Gaza rally over the weekend. “God has warned of this harsh punishment against anyone who desires to prevent the call to prayer at Al-Aqsa or attack mosques.”

In response to these opinions, MK Yehudah Glick wrote on Twitter that he was waiting for someone to blame themselves.

“I am waiting for a rabbi to say, ‘The fire is because of me, because I spoke badly of others, I didn’t help someone, I was not careful in maintaining my honesty etc.,” he wrote.

Last week, dozens of fires raged across Israel — most of them small, but some massive, like one in the port city of Haifa — as dry air, no rain and high winds turned the region into a tinderbox.

Tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate while hundreds of homes have been damaged or destroyed. Dozens have been hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

On Thursday, 60,000 Haifa residents were evacuated from their homes, in what the city’s mayor called the largest mass civilian mobilization in the country’s history, as a massive blaze encroached on the northern city.

Haifa city officials said the fire — by far the largest conflagration in the past five days — damaged 400-530 homes, leaving over 400 uninhabitable and 37 completely destroyed.

On Sunday morning, authorities said firefighters had gained the upper hand against the blazes, offering a tentative assessment that the series of wildfires had come to an end.

Turkey Has Declared War On Syria – Does This Mean That World War 3 Is About To Erupt In The Middle East?

By Michael Snyder, on November 29th, 2016

fighter-jet-silhouette-public-domain
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has just announced that the only reason Turkish military forces have entered northern Syria is to “end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad”. By publicly proclaiming that Turkey intends to use military force to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Erdogan has essentially declared war on the Syrian government. Of course this puts a member of NATO in direct military conflict with Russia, since Russia is working very hard to prop up the Assad regime. If all-out war breaks out between Turkey and Russia, could that be the spark that causes World War 3 to erupt in the Middle East? And once Turkey and Russia start fighting, would the United States and the rest of NATO be dragged into the conflict?

The big mainstream news networks in the western world are almost completely ignoring what Erdogan said on Tuesday, but without a doubt this is major news. The following comes from a Turkish news source

The Turkish military launched its operations in Syria to end the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Nov. 29.

“In my estimation, nearly 1 million people have died in Syria. These deaths are still continuing without exception for children, women and men. Where is the United Nations? What is it doing? Is it in Iraq? No. We preached patience but could not endure in the end and had to enter Syria together with the Free Syrian Army [FSA],” Erdoğan said at the first Inter-Parliamentary Jerusalem Platform Symposium in Istanbul.

Turkish military forces initially invaded northern Syria on August 24th, and at the time we were all told that the purpose of the invasion was to “fight ISIS”, but now Erdogan is telling us something completely different.

Breitbart is one of the few U.S. news outlets that is reporting on this story, and I want you to read the following quotes from Erdogan that come from a Breitbart article that was posted on Tuesday very, very carefully…

“Why did we enter? We do not have an eye on Syrian soil. The issue is to provide lands to their real owners. That is to say we are there for the establishment of justice. We entered there to end the rule of the tyrant al-Assad who terrorizes with state terror,” Erdogan continued, insisting his forces were not in Syria for “any other reason.”

The Daily Sabah notes that Erdogan spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about Syria during two telephone calls last week. Since Russia launched a massive military operation to secure Bashar Assad in power, Putin would presumably have been interested in anything Erdogan had to say about toppling the regime in Damascus, and probably would not have kept quiet about it.

If the Turkish military is only in Syria to end the Assad regime, then presumably they will stay there until the job is done.

And this puts Turkey into a direct military conflict with Russia, Iran and Hezbollah since all three of them are already fighting very hard to help the Assad regime.

Of course there is another reason why Turkey is in northern Syria, and that is to fight the Kurds. In fact, the Kurds and Turkey are both rushing to capture a little city northeast of Aleppo called al-Bab which is currently controlled by the Islamic State

Their immediate challenge is securing al-Bab, an Islamic State-held city northeast of Aleppo which Kurdish-led fighters are racing to take, and which lies close to the front lines of Assad’s allies.

Turkish-backed forces have made rapid gains since August, but largely through less heavily populated areas. Urban warfare around al-Bab is already taking a heavier toll. Five Turkish soldiers have been killed in the past week alone, three of them in a suspected Syrian government air strike.

“Right now the question is whether Russia will allow Turkey to seize al-Bab,” said the Muntasir Billah Brigade official.

But most people in the western world don’t know that Turkish soldiers are already dying in Syria.

Here in the United States, tens of millions of Americans are hailing a new era of“peace and prosperity” now that Donald Trump has won the election, but the truth is that one false move in Syria could easily raise tensions between the United States and Russia to the highest level that we have seen since the Cuban missile crisis back in the 1960s.

If Erdogan would have just stayed out of Syria we wouldn’t be in such a precarious situation. Unfortunately, the president of Turkey is a narcissistic lunatic, and he dreams of a day when the old Ottoman Empire will once again be restored.

But his delusions of greatness threaten to make the Middle East even more unstable than it already has been. In addition to his remarks above, on Tuesday Erdogan also called on all Muslims globally “to embrace the Palestinian cause and protect Jerusalem”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged Muslims to defend the Palestinian cause, striking a tough stance on Israel despite improved ties between the two nations.

The president of majority Muslim Turkey said Tuesday that “it is the common duty of all Muslims to embrace the Palestinian cause and protect Jerusalem” and that safeguarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque should not be left to children armed with nothing but stones. Located in the Old City of Jerusalem, the hilltop compound is sacred to Muslims and Jews.

Most people in the western world pay very little attention to Erdogan, but the truth is that he is a madman that is often referred to as “Turkey’s version of Adolf Hitler”. He is extremely ambitious, extremely nationalistic, and he is a warmonger. That is a very dangerous combination, and I believe that it is only a matter of time before he starts a major war in the Middle East.

Somebody needs to get this guy under control, but unfortunately the Obama administration has been very hesitant to confront Erdogan about his outrageous behavior.

When Erdogan openly stated that the Turkish military is in Syria to overthrow the Assad regime on Tuesday, that was like lighting a match in a room that has already been doused with propane.

He needs to immediately retract those comments, because his unique brand of lunacy has now brought us dangerously close to the start of World War 3.

Astronauts in space spooked by mysterious knocking sound that no one can explain

One astronaut said the unexplained noises left him feeling very nervous and he couldn't see anything out of the ordinary when he looked into the vast emptiness of space

China's first astronaut says he heard mysterious knocks during his first flight in space - but no one has been able to explain the cause of them.

Astronaut Yang Liwei said the strange noises left him feeling very nervous and he looked out into the vast emptiness of space but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Mr Yang, now a major general in China's Air Force, said it sounded like someone was knocking the body of the spaceship, comparing the noise to that of a hammer hitting an iron bucket.

The 51-year-old's unexplained experience has raised all kinds of theories, including aliens , and he said he has never heard the sound again since returning to earth.

Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei sits in the module of his spaceship during his flight in 2003

In 2003 Mr Yang became the first person sent into space by the Chinese space programme, orbiting earth several times during a 21-hour flight.

He recalled the experience in a recent interview, telling Chinese media the mysterious knocking sounds occurred without rhyme or reason.

He said: "A non-causal situation I have met in space is a knock that appeared from time to time.

Mr Yang says the cause of the strange noises has never been established

"It neither came from outside nor inside the spaceship, but sounded like someone is knocking the body of the spaceship just as knocking an iron bucket with a wooden hammer.

Mr Yang revealed he was very nervous when he heard the sounds and moved close to the spaceship's porthole to investigate the cause.

He failed to see anything out of the ordinary.

When he returned to earth he explained the noises to officials with the space programme and tried to imitate it with instruments.

The sound has also been heard by Chinese astronauts who have since been blasted into space.

Mr Yang said: "Before entering space I have told them that the sound is a normal phenomenon, so there is no need to worry."
