Cataclysmic mass die-offs continue in Chile: Millions of prawns and hundred cormorants found dead in Chile

The ongoing cataclysmic marine mass die-offs along coastal Chile are growing in intensity after beachgoers discovered millions of prawns and hundred cormorants dead on different Pacific coast beaches.

Officials say this marine ecosystem collapse is due to extreme red tides linked to the 2015 El Nino. But there is probably something else behind!

Chile is currently experiencing an unprecedent series of mass die-offs along the Pacific coast. Yesterday, two more were added to the long lists: prawns and cormorants.

Staff of the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca) are currently investigating the still mysterious causes of a massive prawn die-off on a beach called Lisera in the town of Arica, Chile.

About 100 cormorants were found dead on the beaches of El Tabito (50 bodies) and Matanzas (50 bodies). The cause of their death is still unknown but is most probably not linked to third parties. Officials believe these birds are possibly victims of bycatch. And what about if the fish or shrimps they ate was infected by the poisonous red tide?

The bad consequences of this red tide are so apocalyptic that there may be also something else behind these die-offs.

Russian S-300 anti-missiles finally deployed in Iran

© Igor Russak / Sputnik

Iran has deployed Russian-supplied S-300 air defense systems at one of its military bases, the country’s defense minister announced. This apparently finalizes an almost decade-long saga surrounding the controversial shipment.

The long-range S-300 system was placed at Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said as
cited by the Tasnim news agency.

The general added that the domestically-produced Bavar-373 has characteristics similar to the S-300 and would be mass-produced later this year.

Earlier in April, Iran showed off several elements of the Russian surface-to-air complex during the National Army Day parade in Tehran.

Russia and Iran signed a contract for supply of S-300 systems in 2007, but Moscow canceled it after Iran was accused by several nations of clandestinely developing nuclear weapons.

The move was reportedly made under pressure from the US and Israel, which were concerned that Russian weapons would prevent a possible surprise airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities. Moscow said at the time that the delivery of S-300 would upset the balance of power in the region and escalate tensions.

The contract was revived last year after significant progress had been made in nuclear talks between Iran and six leading world powers, including Russia. A deal that puts restraints on Iran’s ability to create a nuclear device, was later signed.

The version of the S-300 system supplied to Iran is more advanced than the one it paid for under the initial contract. In mid-April, Russia announced the shipment of the missiles had already started and that the deal would be fully closed before the end of the year.

Panama Papers: Saudi Arabia King Sponsored Netanyahu’s Campaign

Isaac Herzog, member of the Knesset and Chairman of the Israeli Labor party, revealed that Saudi king Salman bin Abdulaziz financed the election campaign of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

“In March 2015, King Salman has deposited eighty million dollars to support Netanyahu’s campaign via a Syrian-Spanish person named Mohamed Eyad Kayali. The money was deposited to a company’s account in British Virgin Islands owned by Teddy Sagi, an Israeli billionaire and businessman, who has allocated the money to fund the campaign Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu”, Herzog cited a leaked Panama Paper. Middle East Leaders Among Top Investors in “Panama Papers Case”

Around eleven million documents were leaked from one of the world’s most secretive companies, Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca as it worked for 40 years without suspicion. The leaked documents showed how Mossack Fonseca firm has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax.

The documents held by the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca have been delivered to the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which then shared them with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. Later, around 107 media organisations in 78 countries have been analysing the documents. Among the media agencies are the BBC, Panorama and UK newspaper the Guardian. The BBC said that it does not know the identity of the source.

However, the director of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), Gérard Ryle said the documents covered the day-to-day business at Mossack Fonseca over the past 40 years. He said it will be one of the biggest blows offshore,”I think the leak will prove to be probably the biggest blow the offshore world has ever taken because of the extent of the documents.” The blow will extend offshore the world, even middle east leaders were linked to this company.

The documents show 12 current or former heads of state with at least 60 people linked to current or former world leaders in the data. It also contains secret offshore companies linked to the families and associates of Egypt’s former president Hosni Mubarak, Libya’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi, Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad and Saudi Arabia’s king Salman.

Moreover, the documents include the Icelandic Prime Minister, Sigmundur Gunnlaugson, who had a hidden interest related to his wife’s wealth and is now facing calls for his resignation. The files also unveiled suspected money laundering ring with billion dollars involving close associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The documents also show how the company offered financial assistances and services how it helped business clients hide their wealth or to do illegal many transactions.

Isis extremists execute 7-year-old for swearing as he played football with friends in Raqqa

Brutal Isis militants executed a seven-year-old boy by firing squad after he was heard swearing while playing a game of football with his friends. The boy named locally as Muaz Hassan, was playing on Monday 2 May in Isis's de facto capital of Raqqa when a militant walked past and said he heard him of swearing.

After dragging the boy in front of an
Isis Sharia court in the northern Syrian city he was convicted of "blasphemy" and insulting the caliphate.

According to the ARA News agency, the Islamic court judged he be executed in front of his distraught parents who collapsed in shock. As is common, hundreds of people were forced to watch the killing in Naeem Square, in the war-torn city.

An
ARA source said: "Islamic State's police arrested Muaz Hassan earlier this week in the city of Raqqa, after they heard him "cursing divinity", while playing in the street with his friends. The act was considered an insult to the Caliphate, regardless of the age of the boy."

According to the news agency, the feared Hisba police force shot him dead a few days after they executed two young men in the city of Manbij, in Syria's northern province of Aleppo, on charges of spying for the US-led coalition, local sources reported.

On Saturday 7 May, a UN envoy said that more than 50 mass graves have been discovered in areas once held by Isis in neighbouring Iraq. The extremists massacred Yazidis, Sunni and Shia Muslims, Kurds and Iraqi troops as they carved their self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq.

Since Isis declared their caliphate they have publicly executed hundreds of soldiers, civilians, activists, and journalists on various charges. But observers believe that this is the first time a child has been executed for blasphemy.

Secret Meetings Between Israel, Saudi Officials Reveal Close Relationship, Mutual Interests

MAY 10, 2016

By Brandon Turbeville

After a series of secret meetings between Saudi and Israeli officials were exposed by a select few of mainstream press outlets, both the Saudis and the Israelis are now becoming more open about the relationship between the two governments. Although, for years, GCC countries like Saudi Arabia have held a public position of hostility toward Israel, many researchers and observers have long been aware of secret cooperation between the two and that public statements were largely designed to provide a cover of Arab identity and self-interest for the benefit of public consumption.

After all, the two share common goals when it comes to Iran, Hezbollah, and Syria and all have the common ally of the United States.

As Murtaza Hussain wrote for the Intercept in his article “Israel’s Clandestine Alliance With Gulf Arab States Is Going Public,”

In 2009, a U.S. State Department diplomatic cable gave one of the first glimpses of a burgeoning alliance between Israel and the Arab states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The cable quoted Israeli Foreign Ministry official Yacov Hadas saying, “the Gulf Arabs believe in Israel’s role because of their perception of Israel’s close relationship with the United States,” adding that GCC states “believe Israel can work magic.”

Israel and the Gulf states also shared an interest in countering what they saw as rising Iranian influence in the Middle East. So while the two sides sparred in public — Israel’s “Cast Lead” military operation had just claimed more than 1,400 lives in the Gaza Strip and was condemned by Saudi Arabia, in a letter to the United Nations, as “fierce aggression” — they enjoyed “good personal relations” behind closed doors, Hadas said, according to one cable. Hadas reportedly added that the Gulf Arabs were still “not ready to do publicly what they say in private.”

Fast forward six years, and it seems as though the GCC states have finally readied themselves to go public about their warming relationships with Israel. In an event at the Council on Foreign Relations this week in Washington, reported on by Bloomberg’s Eli Lake, high-ranking former Saudi and Israeli officials not only shared the stage but disclosed that the two countries had been holding a series of high-level meetings to discuss shared strategic goals, particularly around the perceived regional ascendance of Iran. At the event, former Saudi General Anwar Eshki openly called for regime change in Iran, while former Israeli ambassador to the U.N., Dore Gold, once a fierce critic of Saudi Arabia, spoke of his outreach to the country in recent years, and of the possibility of resolving the remaining differences between the two nations, stating, “Our standing today on this stage does not mean we have resolved all the differences that our countries have shared over the years, but our hope is we will be able to address them fully in the years ahead.”

Hussain also pointed out that signals are now apparent of the growing intelligence connection between the Israelis and the Gulf States. He wrote,

In recent years, however, the dual phenomena of the Arab uprisings and growing Iranian influence have pushed GCC leaders closer to Israel. Last year, Saudi Prince Turki bin Faisal took the unprecedented step of publishing an op-ed in a major Israeli newspaper calling for peace between Israel and GCC nations, as well as for a resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. As the United States under the Obama administration has pursued détente with Iran in recent years, reports have also surfaced suggesting covert security cooperation between Israel and GCC states. The investigative news site Middle East Eye recently documented the existence of regular, secret flights between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv, despite the ostensible ban on Israeli citizens entering the UAE.

In addition, it should be pointed out that such an alliance was largely cemented when Saudi Arabia banned Al-Manar, the Hezbollah-owned television channel, from operating within its borders. Saudi Arabia shortly thereafter labeled Hezbollah as a “terrorist organization.” Hezbollah, of course, is both an enemy of Israel and close friend of Iran.
