Ex-Mexican President Fox: Donald Trump reminds me of Hitler

Updated 1035 GMT (1835 HKT) February 27, 2016 | Video Source: CNN

(CNN) Former Mexican President Vicente Fox on Friday kept up his withering criticism of Donald Trump, saying the GOP front-runner reminds him of Adolf Hitler.

"Today, he's going to take that nation (U.S.) back to the old days of conflict, war and everything. I mean, he reminds me of Hitler. That's the way he started speaking," Fox told CNN's Anderson Cooper in a phone interview on "Anderson Cooper 360."

"He has offended Mexico, Mexicans, (and) immigrants. He has offended the Pope. He has offended the Chinese. He's offended everybody."

Fox's comments come one day after he delivered a
scathing response on Trump's plan to make Mexico pay for a wall between the Mexico-U.S. border.

"I'm not going to pay for that f***ing wall," Fox said in an interview with Fusion's Jorge Ramos.

Fox told Cooper he won't apologize for that remark.

Fox isn't the first to suggest Trump's rhetoric is similar to that of the German dictator.

Last month, Anne Frank's stepsister
accused Trump of "acting like another Hitler." And in December, former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman invoked Hitler when discussing Trump's plan to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

"If you go and look at your history and you read your history in the lead-up to the Second World War, this is the kind of rhetoric that allowed Hitler to move forward," Whitman told CNN's Alisyn Camerota on "New Day."

Theories Pour In After Mysterious High-Pitched Sound Baffles Oregon Town

by 4:39 PM EST, February 25, 2016

There is a mystery that has everyone in the picturesque town of Forest Grove, Oregon, baffled – a horrible and intense sound is coming from out of nowhere.

For the last two weeks, residents have been on edge because they don't known what the ear-splitting noise is or where it’s coming from.

Police Captain Mike Herb said he has received email theories from all over the world, adding: “We're taking it seriously and just don't know what it is.”

But it turns out; it is just the latest incident in a world-wide phenomenon of unexplained sounds that have scientists scratching their heads.

A spooky sound terrified a town in British Columbia in 2015, a mysterious sound was heard in Finland in 2012 and a piercing high-pitched sound was recorded in Michigan in 2013.

As for the strange sound in Oregon, acoustic engineer Tobin Cooley analyzed it for INSIDE EDITION.

He said it sounds like compressed gas but still isn’t sure what exactly is causing it or where exactly it is coming from.

“I don't think anyone knows what it is yet and that makes it more frightening.”

Rights group reports airstrikes in Syria

Updated 1606 GMT (0006 HKT) February 28, 2016 | Video Source: CNN

(CNN) Warplanes carried out several airstrikes in Syria despite a truce negotiated between rebels and the government, according to an international group monitoring the conflict.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said strikes were conducted in the Aleppo region, the southern countryside of Hama, and near Raqqa, the de facto capital of ISIS.

It was unclear who conducted the airstrikes.

Russian state-run media, meanwhile, reported that six attacks on Damascus originated from areas held by the Syrian opposition fighters.

The United States and Russia helped lead the negotiation of a "cessation of hostilities" between a handful of rebel groups and the Syrian regime, which took effect Friday. Terrorist groups like ISIS and al Nusra Front are not part of the agreement.

A main Syrian opposition group, the High Negotiations Committee, said 97 of its factions agreed to respect the two-week truce that starts with the cessation of hostilities. But it warned the Syrian government and Russia not to target it under the pretense of attacking terrorist groups.

Salem Meslet, the spokesman for the High Negotiations Committee, told CNN's Nic Robertson that the Syrian regime has committed 15 violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement.

He blamed the airstrikes in Aleppo on Russian warplanes. The areas that were targeted do not have ISIS or al Nusra presence, he said.

The attacks by the Syrian regime have included barrel bombs and rockets, Meslet said.

"We worry (Syrian President Bashar al-Assad) will increase the violations if no one says anything to him," Meslet said. The High Negotiations Committee is sending letters detailing the alleged violations to the United Nations and all the members of the International Syria Support Group -- except for Russia and Iran.

Right now, Meslet said, "in general it is a lot better than before (the cessation of hostilities) and our people are more comfortable."

Russian state media said that country halted airstrikes in certain parts of Syria in accordance with the cessation of hostilities agreement.

Russia's Interfax news agency said the alleged violations by the opposition in Damascus killed two people and wounded eight others.

Ecuador’s Tungurahua volcano rocked by large explosions

    Tungurahua Volcano
February 2016 ECUADOR Two moderately large explosions occurred at the volcano yesterday noon from 12:12 local time. The first and larger explosion produced an ash plume that rose approx. 5000 meters above the summit. The ash plume dispersed mainly to the west and northwest where ash fall occurred in areas including Choglontús, Pillate, Cahuaji and El Manzano.
According to IGEPN, the eruption – which came after a 3 months interval of quiet since last November – was most likely NOT the result of new magma, but instead of accumulated gas pressure in the upper conduit. Magmatic gasses (H2O, CO2 etc) still contained in older magma inside the conduit was being released quietly as the magma continued to cool and crystallize, but most of these gasses were being trapped beneath a solid plug. With time, the gas pressure increased to the critical point: the plug gave way in yesterday’s explosions.
The explosion itself, a typical so-called “vulcanian”-type eruption, was preceded only by a short (lasting little more than an hour), but intense seismic swarm of shallow earthquakes caused by internal fluid movements and rock fracturing as pressurized gasses started to disintegrate the overlying plug. –Volcano Discovery

    © Wikipedia/ Miya.M

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an eruption warning of Mount Io in southern Japan on Sunday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) Experts observed an increase in volcanic earthquakes in the Kirishima mountain range on Kyushu island, urging tourists and hikers to avoid the 0.6-mile area around Mt. Io’s crater.

The agency said at least 37 volcanic tremors have been recorded at the site by mid-Sunday.

Intensified activity around the 4,300-foot volcano dates back to July 2015.
