Russia Will Be The World’s Leading Exporter Of Non-GMO Foods, Says President Putin

Galactic Free Press's picture

Putin is not a fan of Monsanto or bioengineered anything, which is why, in a new address to the Russian Parliament last Thursday, he proudly outlined his plan to make Russia the world’s ‘leading exporter’ of non-GMO foods that are based on ‘ecologically clean’ production.

The Russian president harshly criticized food production in the United States, stating that Western food producers are no longer offering high quality, healthy, and ecologically clean food.

“We are not only able to feed ourselves taking into account our lands, water resources – Russia is able to become the largest world supplier of healthy, ecologically clean and high-quality food which the Western producers have long lost, especially given the fact that demand for such products in the world market is steadily growing,” Putin said in his address.

Reuters reports that it is likely Putin will use the country’s affinity for organic and sustainable farming as a centerpiece in his economic strategy.

“Ten years ago, we imported almost half of the food from abroad, and were dependent on imports. Now Russia is among the exporters. Last year, Russian exports of agricultural products amounted to almost $20 billion – a quarter more than the revenue from the sale of arms, or one-third the revenue coming from gas exports,” he added.

In Putin’s eyes, Russia is fully capable of supplying the domestic market with home-grown food by 2020.

This declaration comes just months after the Kremlin decided to stop the production of GMO-containing foods, a triumph seen as a huge step forward in the international fight to expose and ruin Monsanto.

With this latest news, Russia has clearly established itself as a dominant force in the realm of organic farming.

Putin’s War of Words with Turkey Escalates to Nukes and Ethnic Cleansing

The Fiscal Times

Putin’s War of Words with Turkey Escalates to Nukes and Ethnic Cleansing

While there has been no further military engagement between Russia and Turkey since a Russian bomber was shot down by the Turkish Air Force last month, the war of words in the most volatile region of the Middle East continues to escalate.

In a roundtable interview with reporters on Wednesday, a senior Turkish official accused Russia of conducting an “ethnic cleansing” campaign in the northern part of Syria. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin was reminding the world in general, and Turkey in particular, that not only is Russia a nuclear power, but that the Kremlin has nuclear-capable missiles aboard a submarine stationed just off Turkey’s coastline.

Related: ISIS Is Winning the Recruitment War as Foreign Fighters Flow into Syria

Russia has been bombing parts of Syria since late September in a military intervention that is plainly aimed at propping up the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad, one of the Kremlin’s few allies in the region. Turkey has accused Russia of focusing its attacks on parts of northern Syria, where many ethnic Turks, known as Turkmen, as well as Sunni Muslims live.

When a Russian bomber strayed into Turkish airspace for a short time last month, Turkish fighters shot it down, causing the death of one of the pilots and contributing to the death of a Russian marine sent as part of a rescue team.

The incident briefly sparked concern that Russian retaliation would lead to war, but the leadership in Moscow, while plainly furious, said that it would retaliate through economic rather than military means.

Beyond Russia’s decision not to escalate the conflict militarily, restraint has not been a hallmark of the current crisis. Both Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin have made a series of angry and insulting statements about the downing of the Russian plane.

Last week, Turkey sent armored units into Northern Iraq, sparking protest from the Iraqi government, and has reportedly been bombing Kurdish groups in northern Iraq.

Now, in a widely reported interview with international reporters, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Russia’s bombing campaign in Syria is not, as has been claimed by the Kremlin, an effort to destroy the terror group ISIS. Instead, he claimed, it is “ethnic cleansing in northern Latakia to force out all Turkmen and the Sunni population.”

Latakia is a region in northern Syrian near the border with Turkey, in the same part of the country where Russia has established airbases, and where Assad’s forces are, generally, in control.

The Russians, said Davutoglu, are not fighting ISIS, but instead “want to expel, they want to ethnically clean this area so that regime and Russian bases in Latakia and Tartous [are] protected.”

In saying that Russia is engaged in ethnic cleansing, Davutoglu is at minimum accusing Russia of something the International Criminal Court views as a crime against humanity, and which under the circumstances might be considered a war crime.

On Wednesday, after receiving a public report about Russian operations in Syria, including notice that cruise missiles had been fired from a submarine in the Mediterranean Sea at targets in Syria, Putin delivered a none-too-subtle reminder that Russia is still a formidable foe.

“With regard to strikes from a submarine, Putin said, “we certainly need to analyze everything that is happening on the battlefield, how the weapons work. Both the missiles and the Kh-101 rockets are generally showing very good results. We now see that these are new, modern and highly effective high-precision weapons that can be equipped either with conventional or special nuclear warheads.”

Of course, he added, “We do not need that in fighting terrorists, and I hope we will never need it. But overall, this speaks to our significant progress in terms of improving weaponry and equipment being supplied to the Russian army and navy.”

It also speaks to an increasingly bellicose-sounding Turkey about what tangling with the Russian bear would mean.

Furor in Israel as Trump to be hosted by Netanyahu after remarks on Muslims

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli politicians of all persuasions called on Wednesday for a planned visit by U.S. Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump to be blocked over his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, which has raised an international outcry.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement later saying he rejected the remarks but added that the visit, set two weeks ago, would go ahead as planned and did not indicate support for Trump.

A government official said Netanyahu and Trump would meet on Dec. 28.

"The prime minister rejects the recent comments by Donald Trump with regard to Muslims. Israel respects all religions and diligently guards the rights of all its citizens," a statement from Netanyahu's office said.

It added that the Israeli leader had determined a uniform policy towards meeting all U.S. presidential candidates from both parties who visit Israel.

"This policy does not reflect support for the candidates or for their platforms, rather, it expresses the importance that the prime minister ascribes to the strong alliance between Israel and the United States," the statement added.

At least 37 mainly Israeli opposition legislators who make up almost a third of the 120-seat Knesset signed a letter to Netanyahu calling on him to cancel the meeting unless Trump withdraws his comments.

Michal Rosin of the left-wing Meretz party, who initiated the letter, said that none of Netanyahu's Likud party had agreed to sign although some had disagreed strongly with Trump's words.

Foreign notables generally get the red-carpet treatment in Israel. For those running for high office, this can mean more votes at home. With Israel and the United States being close allies, and Netanyahu widely seen as supportive of the Republicans against Democratic U.S. President Barack Obama, Trump may hope his visit will bolster his foreign policy credentials ahead of the U.S. election in November 2016.

Playing to U.S. fears about radical Islam after the California gun rampage, Trump has shrugged off outrage at home and abroad over his remarks, made after last week's mass shooting in California by two Muslims who police said had been radicalised.

Trump said on Twitter that he was "very much looking forward" to visiting Israel by year's end.

In the statement, Netanyahu repeated the need to fight militant Islam, saying that while guarding the rights of all its citizens "Israel is combating militant Islam, which attacks Muslims, Christians and Jews and threatens the entire world."

Left- and right-wing Israeli politicians alike, as well as Israeli Arab lawmakers, condemned Trump's remarks and said he should be barred from visiting. Ahmad Tibi, a member of parliament from Israel's 20 percent Arab minority, said he had asked for the "neo-Nazi" not to be admitted to the Knesset.

That call was echoed by Omer Bar-Lev of the main centre-left opposition party, the Zionist Union. "It is inappropriate for any Israeli official to meet (Trump) when he comes to visit," Bar-Lev said.

STRONG CRITICISM FROM NETANYAHU'S PARTY

The censure was joined by Likud officials. Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, a senior Likud lawmaker and Netanyahu confidant, described Trump's rhetoric on Muslims as harmful from an Israeli and U.S. standpoint.

"I recommend fighting terrorist and extremist Islam, but I would not declare a boycott of, ostracism against or war on Muslims in general," Steinitz told Israel's Army Radio.

"We in the state of Israel have many Muslim citizens who are loyal. On the contrary, the extremists and the terrorists should be distinguished from the loyal citizens, and in the United States, too, there are loyal Muslim citizens."

Marc Zell, vice-president of Republicans Overseas and a party representative in Israel, also had harsh words for Trump.

"He is a demagogue. And we as Jews, and also as Israelis, know what a demagogue is, historically," Zell told Army Radio in a separate interview, saying he was voicing his own opinion rather than a formal Republican position.

"The Republican party has a long list of candidates worthy of the presidency, and we have to change the leadership in the White House, which has caused a lot of damage, but Donald Trump is not the answer," Zell said.

There was no word whether Trump would also meet with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who was visiting Washington and scheduled to meet Obama on Wednesday.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Trump's comments disqualified him from being president and said other Republican candidates should disavow him "right now".

The prime ministers of France and Britain, Canada's foreign minister, the United Nations and Muslims in Asian countries have also denounced Trump's comments.

Over 150,000 Britons have signed an online petition to ban Trump from Britain, but finance minister George Osborne opposed this, saying it would better to engage Trump in democratic debate "about why he is profoundly wrong about the contribution of American Muslims and indeed British Muslims".

U.S. Wants War With Russia: Former U.S. Army Officer

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Ukraine suggests that Washington is seeking a war with Russia by stirring up tensions in Ukraine, says Joachim Hagopian, a former U.S. Army officer and an analyst. Biden arrived in Ukraine on Sunday to reassure the Ukrainian government that the U.S. still remembers its eastern European ally even though it cooperates with Moscow on fighting ISIS – a.k.a. Daesh – terrorists in Syria.

Biden arrived in Ukraine to “kind of reassure the Kiev puppet ally government that the United States is standing behind them, ready for World War 3 against Russia,” Hagopian told Press TV on Sunday.

“I think that we are seeing polarization and a movement towards more confrontation, unfortunately, and I think that this Biden visit to Ukraine is the same [as] ‘you know, we are going to be there for you when World War III starts, we are going to be fighting right alongside you’,” the analyst said.

Russia has a winning card over U.S. allies

Hagopian also said that Russia’s enormous natural energy resources are Russian President Vladimir Putin’s winning card against America’s constant push for military confrontation. Countries like Turkey and Ukraine, both of which have been on the brink of unleashing a military conflict with Russia, are having difficulties over the future of their energy ties with Moscow, their main supplier, according the analyst.

Moscow recently introduced economic sanctions against Turkey, which will cost the country approximately$9 billion. Moreover, Ankara is on the verge of losing Russia as its main energy resources supplier after the Turkish military last week shot down a Russian jet in its airspace.

Describing the situation with Russia using energy resources as a very effective deterrent against Washington’s influence, Hagopian said that Turkey and Ukraine “shot themselves in the foot” and have become “puppets” of the U.S. in exchange for energy supplies.

Here’s how the U.S. is going to win sea battles against Russia

The former U.S. Army officer’s comments about the U.S. seeking to wage World War 3 against Russia come amid reports that the U.S. Navy’s largest-ever guided missile destroyer, the USS Zumwalt, began its first sea trials. According to RT, the state-of-the-art destroyer cost over $4 billion to design and build and took a couple of decades to construct, while its design has flaws and even potential risks. On Monday, the ship left the Bath Iron Works on the Kennebec River in Maine to go through several naval tests.

Los Angeles opens arms to Syrian refugees

Los Angeles (AFP) - Los Angeles county leaders voted Tuesday to welcome refugees fleeing persecution, including those from Syria, even as some Americans voice fears they could be linked to terror.

The county board of supervisors voted three to two in favor of a symbolic stand to welcome Syrian refugees fleeing a humanitarian crisis that "is arguably the largest since World War II."

The three votes in favor were from Democrats, the two against from Republicans and there was one abstention.

More than 25 of the 50 US states have said they would not accept refugees from Syria on the heels of terror strikes in Paris in which 130 people were killed.

Syed Farook, 28, and his Pakistan-born wife Tashfeen Malik, 29, shot 14 dead and wounded 21 others in San Bernardino, California on December 2. They died hours later in a firefight with police.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump then urged a temporary suspension of Muslims being allowed entry into the United States.

President Barack Obama criticised the remarks as contrary to American values.
