Hundreds of Christian Fighters Scramble to Defend Syrian Town as ISIS Advance
By

Mor Ignatius Aphrem Karim II visits Sadad, Syria, on November 5. The town has become the last stronghold for Syriac Christians in the country.

Hundreds of Christian fighters from across Syria have arrived in the majority-Syriac Christian town of Sadad to prevent it falling into the hands of the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), the head of the Syriac Orthodox church says.

Sadad, which lies just off a vital highway connecting the cities of Damascus and Homs in the west of the country, has faced an onslaught from the radical group's militants since October 31 as ISIS advances across central Syria and inches closer to the capital.

Some 500 Syriac Christian fighters have as yet prevented the group from entering the Sadad. But ISIS's capture of the town of Mahin, less than five miles away, at the end of October has left Sadad vulnerable to a continued assault by the militants.

Last Thursday, Mor Ignatius Aphrem Karim II, the Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox church, traveled to Sadad from the church's headquarters in Damascus in a bid to boost the morale of the fighters in the town. Following the ISIS assault last month, at least 200 Syriac fighters from Damascus, Qamishli and Hasakah traveled to Sadad to join the fight to defend the town, he told
Newsweek by phone from the Syrian capital's Old City.

"It is under assault," Karim says. "IS advanced toward Sadad but they were not able to enter Sadad. The young people in Sadad, with the help of some armed groups, were able to fight back and push IS back to where they started. They are helped by some groups coming from different parts of Syria also."

Syriac Christianity is one of the world's oldest sects. It is an umbrella for a number of the churches of Eastern Christianity, such as the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Ancient Church of the East, the Chaldean Catholic Church and the Syriac Catholic Church. Its followers speak the ancient language of Aramaic, the tongue that Jesus is believed to have spoken.

Sadad has come under attack before. In October 2013, the Al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front militant group, which is battling the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, captured the town and held it for just over a week, killing 46 Syriacs before the Syrian army retook the town.

Mor Ignatius Aphrem Karim II, head of the Syriac Orthodox church greets Christian fighters in the Syrian town of Sadad.

Karim adds that the Syriac Christian fighters now in Sadad have been joined by non-Christians too. A number of Muslims and Alawites are in the ranks of the Syrian army fighting to defend the town and a "couple of hundred" Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) fighters, including Muslims, have also traveled to the town to assist in its defence, Karim says. The SSNP, headquartered in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, is a leftist organization that believes in a greater Syrian state where Christians and Muslims live side-by-side.

A Syriac Christian fighter in Sadad, who declined to be named for security reasons, says: "People from all over Syria have arrived to fight for Sadad. It is a symbolic place for us and we will not allow it to fall again."

Karim says the Syriac fighters are committed to their cause. "It was emotional but it was also very encouraging to see our young people determined to defend their land and stay in their homeland," Karim says of his visit. "To see them ready to fight and to sacrifice for their land, I think that's what's very meaningful, that made me very proud of them."

Thousands of Syriac Christians have already fled the town in fear that ISIS will take control and force them to live a life as second citizens under their extreme interpretation of Islamic law. Karim says that the population of the town in the summer was approximately 15,000 but it now numbers closer to 2,000 following the ISIS advance.

In August, ISIS captured another Syrian town with a large Syriac Christian population, Al-Qaryatain, taking hundreds of Christians—from both the Syriac Orthodox and Syriac Catholic denominations of Christianity—captive, before releasing them to their homes and
forcing them to pay jizya (tax) and sign a dhimma (Sharia social contract) to avoid death.

Nuri Kino, founder of the Middle Eastern advocacy group A Demand for Action says that ISIS's treatment of Christian minorities elsewhere in the Middle East is motivating Christian militia to prevent another tragedy in Sadad.

"We hope that Sadad does not become a new Mosul, Nineveh, Khabour or al-Qaryatain," Kino says by email. "The people in Sadad and all those that joined them, many Christians from all over Syria, showed that they have had it with ISIS turning Christians into slaves."

Despite the hundreds of Christian fighters arriving in Sadad to protect the town, Karim is aware of the thousands to have left and issues a rallying cry to his people.

"It is better that we stay in our homeland," he says. "If we die here, we are defending our homeland and we are not trying to flee."

Twin suicide blasts kill 41 in Hezbollah bastion in Beirut

Two suicide bombings strike in Lebanon

Beirut (AFP) - Twin suicide bombings rocked a busy shopping street Thursday in a Beirut stronghold of Lebanon's Shiite movement Hezbollah, killing 41 people and wounding more than 200 in the worst such attack in years.

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour, speaking from the scene on a street of shops where vendors also sell from stalls, said many of the injured were in serious condition.

The army said the body of a "third terrorist" was found at the scene of one of the blasts after he apparently failed to blow himself up.

The attacks were the deadliest to hit a Hezbollah stronghold since the group entered the conflict in neighbouring Syria in 2013 in support of President Bashar al-Assad.

A string of them targeted areas where the group is popular throughout 2013 and 2014. In the most recent one in the southern suburbs of Beirut in June of last year, a suicide car bomb killed a security officer.

Police said two men on foot set off suicide vests Thursday in Burj al-Barajneh, a largely impoverished suburb of the city home to a mostly Shiite Muslim population.

The neighbourhood is bordered by the Burj al-Barajneh Palestinian refugee camp.

An AFP photographer saw extensive damage to buildings around the site of the blast and bodies inside some of the nearby shops.

There was blood on the streets, and security forces were trying to cordon off the scene and keep people from gathering.

Local television stations showed footage of wounded people being carried away by emergency services and civilians.

"I'd just arrived at the shops when the blast went off. I carried four bodies with my own hands, three women and a man, a friend of mine," a man who gave his name as Zein al-Abideen Khaddam told local television.

Another described the sound of the blasts.

"When the second blast went off, I thought the world had ended," he said.

The wounded were evacuated to several hospitals in the area, including the Bahman hospital in neighbouring Haret Hreik.

"We've received dozens of wounded people and they're continuing to arrive," a doctor there told AFP.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam announced a national day of mourning for Friday, local media reported.

And former premier Saad Hariri, who leads a political bloc opposed to Hezbollah and its allies, condemned the blast as "vile and unjustified".

Between July 2013 and February 2014, there were nine attacks on Hezbollah throughout Lebanon, mostly claimed by Sunni extremist group.

Despite ostensibly targeting Hezbollah, the victims of the attacks have been overwhelmingly civilians.

The deadliest in southern Beirut was in 2013, when 27 people were killed by a car bomb in the Rweiss district.

The attacks were claimed by several different Sunni groups, but all cited Hezbollah's role in the conflict in Syria.

Hezbollah is a staunch ally of Assad's regime and is backed by Iran, another key supporter of the government in Damascus.

In early 2013, it dispatched its fighters to back government forces against a Sunni-dominated uprising that with anti-regime demonstrations in March 2011.

Since then, the group has become deeply involved in the conflict, dispatching fighters throughout the country to bolster Assad's troops on a range of battlefields.

It has devoted particular attention to the Qalamun region along the two countries' border, but its fighters have also reportedly been key in government advances elsewhere including, on Thursday, in the northern Aleppo province.

At least 971 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in Syria, according to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor.

With Open Gates: The forced collective suicide of European nations – Extended Cinematic

Will you take the time to discover for yourselves how the Cestui que Vie Accounts play a role in this insane migration? The countries/people (Soros, etc.) who have caused this need to provide money to send these people home!!! They didn’t slap a $300K (cash) bail on Thomas for nothing – no matter that it isn’t one bit legal and that the State of Virginia like every other state is nothing but one mass of corporations, draining the people dry. Refuse to look, and you pay the consequences . . . ~J

In brief from the call that got Thomas Deegan arrested, but check it out in more detail HERE:

It needs to be shown that the American people are not going to allow what’s going to happen at the UN next week!

Now we will open the call to questions and I will have a few more statements then we will be done.

Caller1: Who is being insured? The Americans?

TD: Every free man, woman and child on Earth. You have an insurance policy taken out on you by the government that is over you and you also have a Cestui que Vie account that is over you that is maintaining and holding you illegally and unlawfully and they are trying to become the heirs. This is for every man, woman and child on the Earth.

Caller2: Does this fall back to the Save Our Sovereignty where we are used as collateral and they are wanting to take up the collateral?

TD: They would like to see you die off but not at their hands so they can collect the Cestui que Vie account and the insurance policy. Anything you think you own they already have legal title to.

Caller3: With the economic collapse, who is going to pay out the $50,000?

TD: The $50,000 is held in the Cestui que Vie accounts and is backed by the gold in the Vatican, BIS and IMF. The insurance policy is worth much more than the Cestui que Vie account — probably in the million dollar range.”

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly.”

– Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106-43 BC

You are witnessing what will be shown to future generations as the reason for the fall of an Empire.

At current immigration levels and disappearing birth rates native Europeans are destined to become a minority in their own countries within decades. This is already the case for many of Europe’s largest cities.

Europeans have effectively lost their right to exist as cultures and nations in their own homelands and are facing extinction.

Millions of young Muslim men leave behind their family, pay thousands to criminal traffickers to reach the land they have been promised by European politicians illegally.

Dubbed by the media as “refugees”, they cross through 6-10 safe countries to reach wealthy nations like Germany or Sweden where they hope to receive a better life at the expense of the taxpayer.

Only a fraction of them are Syrian, as they enter unfiltered, without any documents and without any legitimate right to claim asylum. Women and children are rarely seen, except in the cherry-picked sob stories of the media.

Any indigenous resistance of Europeans who refuse to hand over the countries of their ancestors to often radical and criminal Muslim foreigners is labeled “hateful”, “racist”, even “Nazi”.

The level of cultural, moral and political subversion with egalitarian and Marxist ideologies has reached levels the KGB would never have dreamed of. Equality and tolerance are lies that serve none but a few.

The Left, mainly orchestrated by Zionist interests, is destroying our countries from the inside. Patriotism, the most basic and fundamental trait of any nation that wants to survive, has become something to be ashamed of.

Feminism has destroyed family values and birth rates. Healthy nationalism has been replaced with a culture of guilt, self-hatred, apathy, degeneracy and pathological altruism. We are told to embrace “diversity”, in reality this simply means instead of just being a global minority, Europeans are supposed to become a minority in their own countries as well. No civilized society can keep up with the birth rate of third world immigrants, especially when the main goal is integration rather than assimilation. Parallel societies breed poverty, crime and radicalism.

Multiculturalism has never, at any time in human history, worked anywhere. If you believe otherwise, you’re delusional. In fact it’s the primary reason for every major conflict.

The crimes committed by the EU against the European peoples are directly in violation of the 1948 UN genocide convention, Article II: (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Because of this injustice, far-right parties everywhere in Europe are gaining astonishing amounts of support, becoming the biggest parties in some countries.

Any European that does not rise up to defend his country from foreign invasion because he’s too scared of words does not deserve it.

We are still at a point where you will not get imprisoned for your political opinion in most European countries, but this will change very soon. Do not be apathetic, do not be weak. Be someone that can be proud to call himself European.

Kremlin-controlled TV airs 'secret' plans for nuclear weapon

Associated Press

FILE In this Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015 file photo Russian President Vladimir Putin, centre, shakes hands with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with defense officials in the Bocharov Ruchei residence in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, Russia. President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said plans for a new submarine-launched nuclear torpedo shown on Kremlin-controlled television were secret and should never have been aired. NTV and Channel One showed a large document — filmed over a military officer's shoulder during a meeting with Putin — with drawings and details of a weapons system called Status-6. MOSCOW (AP) — Details of a new Russian submarine-launched nuclear torpedo have been shown on state-controlled TV, a secret the Kremlin said should never have been aired. Some observers, however, saw it as a deliberate leak.

The airing of the video on television channels under tight Kremlin control raised suspicions that it was done intentionally to scare the West at a time when its ties with Russia are at the lowest point since the Cold War.

NTV and Channel One showed a large document — filmed over a general's shoulder during a meeting with Putin — with drawings and details of a prospective weapons system called Status-6.

The system developed by St.Petersburg-based Rubin design bureau includes nuclear submarines carrying massive long-range underwater drones shaped like torpedoes, which could create "extensive zones of radioactive contamination" that would make enemy coastal areas "unsuitable for military, economic, business or other activity for a long time," the document said.

The channels later removed the footage, which was shot during a meeting on Monday in Sochi.

"It's true that some secret information was caught by the camera and therefore it was subsequently removed," Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said late Wednesday. "We hope this will not happen again."

Independent experts noted, however, that it would be hard to imagine cameramen of state TV stations doing a close up on any documents on the table during a Kremlin meeting on military issues. Most saw the incident as a deliberate leak intended to warn Washington and its allies that Russia is working on a new devastating weapon that would tip the scales in case of conflict.

"I have a feeling it was shown in order to scare the world," said Alexander Golts, an independent Moscow-based military analyst. "It's an attempt to offer an asymmetrical answer to the U.S. missile defense."

Putin has held four meetings on defense issues in as many days this week, reflecting the close attention he is paying to military modernization at a time of heightened tensions with the United States and Europe over the crisis in Ukraine.

The Russian leader described NATO's U.S.-led missile defense program as an attempt to break nuclear parity and warned that Moscow would counter it by deploying new strike weapons capable of piercing the shield.

Military experts and commentators traced the nuclear torpedo concept to the 1950s, when it was first offered by Andrei Sakharov, the father of Soviet thermonuclear bomb who later came to defy the Soviet system and won a Nobel Peace Prize. He proposed targeting the U.S. with high-yield nuclear torpedoes that would create huge tsunami waves and high levels of radioactivity to render large coastline areas uninhabitable.

The proposal was rejected, partly because naval technology of the era wouldn't allow a Soviet submarine to approach the U.S. shore undetected.

The Status-6 appears to be a new reincarnation of the old idea, said Pavel Felgenhauer, an independent military analyst.

"The plan is to deliver a 100-megaton nuclear bomb to the U.S. shores," he said. "It would cause a highly radioactive tsunami."

The details of the new weapon shown on Russian state TV indicated that the torpedo, described as a "self-propelled underwater craft" should have a trans-ocean range of 10,000 kilometers (5,400 miles), something military experts considered hardly possible.

But while the torpedo's real range could be much shorter, its relatively small size, a purported operational depth of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) and a speed of 105 kilometers (65 miles per hour) appear realistic, making it difficult to spot and destroy, some observers said.

"Detecting it could be significantly different from detecting a submarine,"said Pavel Podvig, an independent analyst based in Geneva, where he runs his research project focusing on Russian nuclear forces.

The government daily Rossiyskaya Gazeta alleged that in order to achieve the stated purpose of "extensive radioactive contamination" of coastal areas, the project could envisage using the so-called cobalt bomb, a nuclear weapon designed to produce enhanced amounts of radioactive fallout compared to a regular atomic warhead.

Podvig said the apparent deliberate leak of the Status-6 details looks menacing, irrespective of how realistic the project is from the technological viewpoint.

"The whole thing just strikes me as crazy," he said. "This is the way they believe they could show their strength and resolve. It's basically very unsettling that this kind of project appears anywhere near a meeting with the president."

Russian TV airs ‘secret’ nuclear torpedo plans

The Kremlin says details of the new submarine-launched weapon should never have been revealed.
Skeptics doubt it was accidental

Nigeria troops rescue 61, kill four Boko Haram suspects

AFP

Nigeria's recently inaugurated president Muhammadu Buhari, photographed October 27, 2015 in India, has made a military priority of crushing Boko Haram in his country, where troops freed 61 hostages held by the Islamist rebel faction on November 12 (AFP Photo/Sajjad Hussain)

Abuja (AFP) - Nigerian troops killed four suspected Boko Haram suspects and set free 61 people, mainly women and children, held by the jihadist group in the flashpoint northeastern Borno state, the army said Thursday.

In an operation, troops under air cover cleared Boko Haram camps "and in the process rescued 61 persons abducted and held captive by the Boko Haram terrorists," the army said in a statement.

"The rescued persons were mainly women and children," the military said, adding that troops also "killed four terrorists and arrested one."

The Nigerian army had last October 28 also said it freed more than 330 people, mostly women and children, from Boko Haram's Sambisa forest stronghold in an operation in the volatile northeast.

Of those survivors, 192 were children while 138 were women.

There was no independent confirmation of the army claims.

There has also not been any indication that any of the more than 200 schoolgirls seized by the Islamists in April last year in Chibok town, Borno state, was among those rescued so far.

Their kidnapping of the schoolgirls from their dormitory sparked international anger, with strong condemnation of then president Goodluck Jonathan for his slow response to the girls' plight.

The Nigerian military has in recent months claimed a string of successes against Boko Haram in its quest to end the hardline Islamist group's six-year insurgency.

In early August, the army said it had freed 178 people, including more than 100 children, following an operation near Aulari town, about 70 kilometres (44 miles) south of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who came to power in May on a pledge to crush Boko Haram, has given his military commanders until the end of December to defeat the rebels.

Boko Haram violence has killed at least 17,000 people and forced more than 2.5 million to flee their homes since 2009.

The group has also carried out deadly cross-border attacks in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
