Thousands of Israelis rally for peace talks with Palestinians

Tel Aviv (AFP) - Thousands of Israelis rallied Saturday for fresh Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the killing of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin.

The demonstrators chanted "Jews and Arabs don't want to hate each other" and "Israel, Palestine, two states for two peoples" as they came together amid a new upswing in violence which makes prospects for peace in the decades-old conflict look deeply gloomy.

They gathered at Tel Aviv's Rabin Square, the site where the Nobel peace laureate was gunned down by a rightwing Jewish extremist at the age of 73 on November 4, 1995.

Activist group Peace Now -- which organised the rally along with the left-wing Meretz party and others -- estimated there were some 6,000 people attending.

Daniel Dojon told AFP he came "because the situation is crazy. I am not talking about safety but the lack of (political) progress, the lack of hope. Israeli politicians are becoming more and more extreme."

Another protester, who identified himself only as Zeev, 67, blamed the lack of a peace process for the current violence.

"It will further deteriorate if we think that being passive is the answer."

Dov Kredo, 60, who attended the peace rally where Rabin was killed, came from Galilee in northern Israel, and said he feels "very pessimistic" about the current situation.

"It is much easier for people to answer the call of fear and hatred," he said.

- State memorial -

Rabin's killer, Yigal Amir, had hoped to derail the 1993 Oslo accords signed by Rabin and the Palestinians, a landmark agreement aimed at resolving the decades-old conflict.

He is currently serving a life sentence.

According to the Hebrew calendar the anniversary falls now, rather than in November.

On Sunday President Reuven Rivlin hosts a candle-lighting tribute in Rabin's memory and on Monday there will be a state memorial ceremony alongside his grave in the national cemetery on Jerusalem's Mount Herzl.

"The path that was stopped in 1995 is very much the path that needs to be taken today," Peace Now spokeswoman Anat Ben Nun told AFP.

Israeli-Palestinians tensions, always simmering, have surged recently in a wave of Palestinian knife and gun attacks, as well as clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces.

Since the start of this month, 52 Palestinians and one Israeli Arab have died in clashes or while carrying out attacks.

Eight Israelis have died in attacks. One Israeli Jew and one Eritrean have been killed after being mistaken for attackers.

"What we see now is very much related to the path not taken since 1995," Ben Nun said, adding that Saturday night's protest was aimed at the policies of the incumbent right-wing government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The most recent attempt to resolve the conflict collapsed in April 2014 amid bitter recriminations on both sides.

Huge inflow of migrants into Slovenia continues despite cold weather

Reuters

Storyful
Slovenian Police Struggle With Surge in Refugee Numbers

Watch video

By Maja Zuvela

RIGONCE, Slovenia (Reuters) - A huge inflow of migrants and refugees to Slovenia continued on Saturday as thousands of people arrived to the tiny Alpine state on their way to Austria and Germany.

Since last Saturday 58,000 migrants, many fleeing the war in Syria, have arrived in Slovenia, shifting their route to the west after Hungary sealed off its borders.

As a percentage of Slovenia's tiny population that is the equivalent of almost 2.3 million people entering Germany or 1.8 million arriving in Britain in a week.

Police said about 9,000 migrants were still in Slovenia on Saturday with more on the way.

"We want to go to the Netherlands. I just want this ordeal to stop. There is no way back and I am ready to do anything to secure a future to my son," said 20-year-old Hamrein from Syria, holding her feverish 6-month-old son against her chest.

She was one of about 2,000 migrants who were waiting in a muddy field near the Slovenian village of Rigonce to cross to nearby migrant camp, braving cold and foggy weather.

Many put up fires and wrapped themselves into blankets and aluminum foil to try to keep warm with morning temperatures being close to zero.

They hope to be able to reach Austria later on Saturday but many more are behind them with about 8,500 migrants entering Serbia over the past 24 hour in order to continue their way to Croatia, Slovenia and then Austria.

Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania said on Saturday they would close their borders if Germany would do so, so as to prevent the Balkans becoming a buffer zone for stranded migrants.

Slovenia had said on Friday it would consider putting up a fence on its border with Croatia unless a solution is found at a Sunday meeting of regional heads of states with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Croatia has so far insisted that walls or fences are not the solution, but rather a common EU approach tackling the situation on the border between Greece and Turkey, where most migrants and refugees enter the EU.

"We will not just sit idle watching how the others are building fences around us," Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said.

Some 230,000 migrants have passed through Croatia since mid-September.

Juncker has invited the heads of Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia to the meeting.

Studies show fewer gun deaths in states with strict gun laws

Associated Press

Do states with stricter gun laws have less gun violence than those with few restrictions?

Researchers who have studied the issue argue they generally do, but with some caveats. They cannot say whether the laws, or some other factors, are the reason for a lower rate of firearm deaths and that there are exceptions.

President Barack Obama addressed the matter in a news conference hours after a gunman killed eight students and a teacher at an Oregon community college.

"We know that states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths," Obama said.

David Hemenway, director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, said Obama's claim was accurate and supported by many studies. The likely reason is that states with stronger gun laws have fewer guns and fewer suicides and homicides from them, he said.

The White House says Obama based his claim on a report published in August by the National Journal, which found that states with the fewest gun-related deaths — including homicides, suicides and accidents — had stricter laws than those with the highest number. The study looked at laws such as those that require permits to purchase handguns and universal background checks on sales.

A study published in 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical Association compared firearm deaths in states to the number of restrictive gun laws each state had out of 28 tracked by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

Looking at 120,000 deaths over a four-year period, researchers concluded that a "higher number of firearm laws in a state are associated with a lower rate of firearm fatalities in the state, overall and for suicides and homicides individually." They acknowledged exceptions, with some states featuring loose restrictions but low rates of gun deaths. They also cautioned against drawing a cause-and-effect relationship, saying more research was needed.

Because such studies also consider suicides in calculating firearm deaths, critics say it is misleading to cite them when arguing for ways to prevent mass shootings. Suicides account for the majority of America's roughly 30,000 annual gun deaths.

Catherine Mortensen, a spokeswoman for the National Rifle Association, said studies that have found links between states' gun laws and firearm deaths fail to consider all the relevant factors that might influence fatality rates, such as how much money is spent in each state on policing and suicide-prevention. She said the 2013 study published in the medical association journal contained a scoring system for laws that was "subjective and not verified by an independent source."

Authors conceded their scoring system "has not been validated." But the lead author, Eric Fleegler of Boston Children's Hospital, said he believed the evidence was clear that the risk of dying from suicide and homicide is generally reduced in states with the most gun restrictions.

"In states where there has been more legislation related to firearms purchasing and the way guns are stored and carried, there are lower rates of fatalities," he said. "This is important."

Studies: Fewer gun deaths in states with strict laws

Researchers cannot rule out other factors, but say fewer guns generally correlate with fewer fatalities.

Here’s Why Officials Are Banning the Term ‘Child Prostitute’

October 23, 2015

Here’s Why Officials Are Banning the Term ‘Child Prostitute’

If someone is too young to consent to sex, that person can’t be arrested for selling sex, and therefore there is no such thing as a “child prostitute,” according to a commonsense edict from Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell.

In a letter to more than 18,000 personnel in his department on Wednesday, McDonnell wrote, “We must recognize the importance of law enforcement’s clear communication regarding who these victims truly are—they are child victims and survivors of rape. Portraying these vulnerable children as anything else fails to acknowledge the trauma and victimization they have endured and serves to cloud the role of the criminally involved offenders.”

That’s a step forward for advocates who say the term can make children who have been forced into the sex trade feel like they can’t turn to police for help, and that they are criminals without recourse against abusers and pimps. On average, teens who are bought and sold for sex in the U.S. are between 12 and 14 years old, McDonnell said.

“Girls are made into property, sold to the highest bidder, repeatedly raped and often branded—on their faces, necks, or chests—with the names of their traffickers. They are not prostitutes and should not be treated as such,” Malika Saada Saar, executive director of advocacy group Human Rights Project for Girls, said in a release.

Despite the apparent flaws in the terminology, the phrase “child prostitute” has been floating around in law enforcement circles and media for years. Last month, activists with Saar’s group called on the media to ban the phrase, noting that doing so would fall in line with federal law, which protects children abused through sex trafficking and defines them as minors.

Yet, advocates say that too often—more than 1,000 times each year—young sex trafficking victims are arrested and sent to juvenile detention centers instead of receiving medical attention and real help that prioritizes their safety and mental health, such as therapy and a place to live that's out of harm’s reach. That’s what they need, according to a statement from Robert K. Ross, president and CEO of Los Angeles–based health advocacy group the California Endowment.

“The children abused through child sex trafficking deserve the resources and support to recover from the trauma and abuse they have experienced,” Ross said.

Jim Stone: US OFFICIAL: HURRICANE PATRICIA NEVER EXISTED AND IS A U.S. GOVERNMENT SPONSORED GLOBAL WARMING HOAX

SOURCE

A reader shares, and I am so thankful to her — and for all the eyes and ears out there. She says:

I believe Jim Stone lives about 150 miles from where the eye was SUPPOSED to be located. This is just getting freaky!!!!!! — :

*

“Eye wall” which only exists in computer models went directly over Puerto Vallarta, yet there were no significant winds and there was no damage or deaths, only heavy rain!

This hoax hurricane arrived two days after the U.S. federal government threatened all people at NOAA and other weather agencies that if they went against the “official word” they would be jailed for breaking a gag order Government Implements Illegal “Gag Order” On National Weather Service And NOAA Employees » Government Implements Illegal “Gag Order” On National Weather Service And NOAA Employees | Geoengineering Watch[ ~J]

MEXICAN NEWS GAVE THE FINAL REPORT ON THE HURRICANE: NO NEWS

I am calling it as it is: The so-called cat 5 world record hurricane was a tropical storm that turned into a tropical depression 100 miles off the Mexican coast, and it caused zero damage on arrival. Though the Mexican news is still calling it a cat 5, there is a surprised tone to it all, because there was no damage anywhere and no deaths. This was a fake hurricane that will hit the books as real, to provide fodder for the climate change scam.

UPDATE: All the pictures are computer generated models. The Mexican press aired footage of the real deal, and it totally dissipated 50 – 100 miles off the coast with no distinguishable eye, and hit the coast as only clouds. The “hurricane” supposedly made landfall closest to Puerto Vallarta, between the cities of Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta. It supposedly took a track that should have destroyed both cities and totally obliterated the Mexican coast between those two cities. The American scam press is saying that it hit a “remote area of Mexico’s coastline” to explain no damage. What they are not saying is that it is only 100 miles from Manzanillo to Puerto Vallarta. No damage in either city means there was no hurricane AT ALL. And there are several significant towns between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. There is no such thing as a “remote stretch of Mexican coastline”, it is 100 percent populated the entire way.

No deaths and no property damage ANYWHERE are being reported. All the Mexican press is saying is that there is “no news” and the hurricane is officially gone. The rain has already stopped in Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. This “category 5” was at best a tropical depression.

I sort of figured something was amiss last night when not a single whisper of wind happened, even though I was supposed to be in the damage path. From the reports, I figured the winds would be 100 mph here. NOT A WHISPER OF WIND HAPPENED AT ALL. It was a calm night.

Here is the news from Puerto Vallarta:

“The Sokols, a family of five from suburban Detroit, were supposed to fly out of Puerto Vallarta on Friday but ended up for hours in a shelter at a university after their flight was canceled. By night they were back where they began: at their hotel, and no worse for wear. “It’s amazing it went from the worst in history to just some heavy rain,” Susanna Sokol said.

My response: No, it is not surprising, with a gag order on U.S. climate scientists threatening prison if they speak up and say something other than the official word, a huge carbon tax, and a global warming/climate scam to uphold (which a world record hurricane that is off the charts would support), I don’t find it surprising AT ALL that all it ended up being was tropical rain.

“CAT 5 PLUS WORLD DOOM HURRICANE PATRICIA WAS JUST A TROPICAL DEPRESSION, NOTHING SIGNIFICANT HAPPENED.

UPDATE: NO HURRICANE, ONLY A TROPICAL DEPRESSION, HIT MEXICO

And low and behold, two days before this hurricane, the U.S. federal government placed a gag order on NOAA weather officials and others in the U.S., saying they would face jail time if they spoke up against the “official” word given by the government. Why would they do that? Because they needed a huge storm on the records to support the climate change lie and they did not want people calling their bluff, THAT’S WHY.

Ok, a little math here:

How far across is a hurricane? Good estimate – 200 – 300 miles. How far across is the eye? 30 – 50 miles. This means that even if the hurricane scored a perfect shot between Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta, neither of those cities could have been less than 25-35 miles away from the eye wall. No damage in either of these cities, from a 220 plus mph windy eye wall, which should have had at least 150 mph winds extending 30 miles out on both sides means NOAA AND THE U.S. WEATHER REPORTING AGENCIES FAKED THIS HURRICANE.

One strange hurricane

I am holding off on calling it a hoax until I get more info, but this is what happened where I am: NOTHING.

Ok, there was a quarter inch of rain last night. But the biggest thing I noticed this morning was blasting music that was way too loud coming from somewhere. There was a super mild rain. There was never any wind AT ALL. Nothing happened, and I am only 150 miles from where this thing made landfall, and it was supposed to be headed (sort of) in my direction. If this thing was even a normal category 1, there should have been at least 30 – 40 mph winds, possibly 100 mph winds and there was NOTHING. So I am going to say what people should see in the news, or this thing is FAKE.

Let’s use as a reference the hurricane that hit the Yucatan a while back. It had 155 mph winds (not 220, like last night’s hurricane was supposed to have) and it stripped every tree completely out of the ground and razed every building for miles and miles. There were lots of photos of perfect devastation. So if, from this hurricane there are not photos of mountains completely stripped bare of all vegetation, no photos of the coastal road completely missing, no photos of erased cities, BLEAK MONOCHROME PHOTOS WHERE EVERYTHING IS ONE COLOR – MUD COLOR – for miles and miles of nothing but mud color razed flat waste, this hurricane was a hoax and that is all there is to it.

I think we are going to get bright tropical colored photos of half ripped palm trees, IF THAT. This last hurricane should have excavated ground like a mining crew if it was real, once it gets past a certain point (and 220 mph winds with gusts up to 300 are well past that point) the earth itself cannot hold up and even the ground is scoured away and there is nothing but mud colored waste because of the dirt ripped out of the ground. If we do not see this, they hoaxed it. And why would they hoax it? To get their “world record storm” for the global warming scam, that is why. Come on now, THE FREAKING LIGHTS ARE ON AND THERE IS A HUGE PARTY SOMEWHERE, not a whisper of wind, NOTHING AT ALL going on here, and even though I was not in the direct path, I was at least in the strong weather path and nothing at all is simply not possible.

DID YOU KNOW: Two days before this hurricane, a gag order was placed on NOAA and other government weather reporting agencies, stating that anyone in those agencies who spoke up against the “official” line would be criminally prosecuted. And why would that be?

So far I am only going off of what happened where I am, but it was so starkly against what was stated to be happening that I am very suspicious.

October 23 2015

Not much going on today other than a huge hurricane. Curious how fast this one developed . . . . has me wondering. And oh, I forgot – In order to shut up climate scientists and prevent them from exposing fraud, a gag order has been placed on NOAA and other agencies to stop people from talking and blowing the lid off the global warming hoax. Sort of a banana republic type thing, but what do you expect when Hillary WILL BE PRESIDENT, even if she only gets 3 votes? People have to be silly in this day and age to believe in the Diebold vote count.

Cynthia wrote:

Jim The worst hurricane in recorded history headed for Pacific Coast of Mexico. They say it is beyond anything they have ever seen, they say it could wipe Puerto Vallarta off the map. Even the nasa folk are shocked at the size of this thing, from space it is absolutely immense. They say ot is beyond Cat 5 with 220MPH winds. Is there any real possibility they can actually “brew” these things and make them worse, like BP earthwatch says? Hope you are nowhere near that area of the nation. Your recent analysis of everything from the Hajj massacre to the Syrian debacle has been excellent. Amazing. —cynthia

My response: I am not out of this hurricane’s path. I should be on the outer edge of the damage path, at best. There have already been heavy rains and strange looking sky. No wind yet, but something feels eerie and it felt that way for me before I knew about this hurricane, which basically hit the news yesterday afternoon and turned into a monster overnight. This morning was super weird, with three levels of different types of clouds (no fog) with the lowest level only about 100 feet off the ground with a super clear cutoff underneath them, they were crisp and not hazy. I never saw anything like that before, and they were tall clouds, going up about 3000 feet, then a break, another layer about 8,000 feet up, then a break and another layer that was a solid sheet I could not see past about 15,000 feet up. There were probably 4 layers, ending with cirrus clouds but I could not see past the third layer. I never saw a sky like that before.

And the question: Could this be weather mod? Well, yes, it could be . . . . . I would not be surprised at all. And I think to front the global warming scam and carbon tax, they absolutely will start doing things like this so people actually believe things are going haywire as they “predicted”. They are not past doing this for a psy op.
