Warrant out for 'White Widow'

Interpol issues alert for British terror widow

A copy of the fake South African travelling passport of Samantha Lewthwaite in this handout photo released by the Kenyan police in December 2011. A British security source said on Tuesday it was a possibility that the widow of a suicide bomber who attacked London in 2005 was involved in the siege of a Nairobi shopping mall where Islamist fighters killed at least 62 people. When asked about reports that Lewthwaite, dubbed the "white widow" by the British media, was directly involved in the attack in Kenya, the source said: "It is a possibility. But nothing definitive or conclusive yet." REUTERS/Kenyan Police Service/Handout via Reuters

LONDON (AP) — Interpol, acting on a Kenyan request, issued an arrest notice Thursday for Samantha Lewthwaite, the fugitive Briton whom news media have dubbed the "white widow."

Lewthwaite, 29, is a Muslim convert whose first husband participated in the 2005 London suicide bombings that killed 52 commuters on subways and a bus. Kenyan authorities want her in connection to a 2011 plot to bomb holiday resorts there.

Officials have not presented any evidence linking her to the terrorist attack on an upscale Nairobi shopping mall, and the Interpol notice did not mention it. But comments from Kenya's foreign minister that a British woman was involved led some U.K. news media to speculate that Lewthwaite participated in the attack, which killed scores of people.

The Interpol notice said Lewthwaite is wanted on charges of possessing explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony in December 2011.

If she indeed embraced the jihadi cause, it would mark a dramatic turnaround for the grieving widow who originally criticized her late husband, Jermaine Lindsay, for taking part in the London transit attacks.

She told The Sun newspaper two months after the attacks that her husband had fallen under the influence of imams at radical mosques.

"How these people could have turned him and poisoned his mind is dreadful," she was quoted as saying. "He was an innocent, naive and simple man. I suppose he must have been an ideal candidate. He was so angry when he saw Muslim civilians being killed on the streets of Iraq, Bosnia, Palestine and Israel — and always said it was the innocent who suffered."

Lewthwaite, the daughter of a former British soldier, was born in Northern Ireland and grew up in Aylesbury, a commuter hub northwest of London.

She converted to Islam — reportedly while in her teens — and went on to study religion and politics at the School Of Oriental and African Studies in London. It was around that time she met Lindsay, first in an Internet chat room and later at a London demonstration against the war in Iraq.

The coupled married in an Islamic ceremony on Oct. 30, 2002, and moved back to Aylesbury a year later.

Local city councilor Raj Khan, who knew Lewthwaite's relatives in Aylesbury, recalls her as "an average, British, young, ordinary girl."

"She was not strong-headed. And that's why I find it absolutely amazing that she is supposed to be the head of an international criminal terrorist organization," he told Britain's Press Association.

Fifteen days after the London attacks, Lewthwaite gave birth to the couple's second child, a daughter. In the immediate aftermath of the bombings, she insisted that her husband — a carpet fitter — "wasn't the sort of person who'd do this."

After it became clear the Jamaica-born Briton had been involved, Lewthwaite condemned the attacks — and then stayed largely out of view until March 2012, when her name surfaced in a Kenyan investigation into terror funding.

Officials at first said they were looking for someone using her identity — then later said they were looking for her. They alleged that Lewthwaite and other foreigners traveled to Kenya in late 2011 to plan a bomb attack on the Kenyan coast over the Christmas holidays.

Authorities said Lewthwaite — who was pregnant by her new Kenyan husband — was in charge of finances for the planned attack, and suspected she had rented several houses in upmarket areas in Mombasa to assemble a bomb.

The group was allegedly collaborating with Kenyans sympathetic to al-Shabab, the Somalia-based al-Qaida affiliate that has claimed responsibility for the Kenyan mall attack.

Kenyan anti-terrorism police suspected Lewthwaite was working with Musa Hussein Abdi, who was shot dead with an al-Qaida boss in Somalia in June 2011. In December 2011, they found a woman they believed to be Lewthwaite in his house but let her go after she showed them a South African passport.

Police later realized the passport was fraudulent and returned to the house, but she was gone.

Officials believe she fled to Somalia that same month.

Princess Diana ‘Murder’ Probe: Key SAS Witness ‘Flees’ UK Before Questioning

Mystery still surrounds Diana's death [PA]

Mystery still surrounds Diana’s death [PA]

Stephen: Let’s hope he hasn’t been ‘removed’ to prevent him giving crucial evidence.

By Mark Reynolds, The Daily Express UK – September 23, 2013

A SOLDIER who claims Princess Diana was murdered by the SAS has fled the UK before he could be quizzed by police, it was revealed yesterday.

Known only as Soldier N, the former SAS sergeant vanished days before he was due to be interviewed as part of a “scoping exercise” into information surrounding her death.

He had been expected to meet Scotland Yard officers in the coming days as part of a new assessment of the evidence in connection with the 1997 crash in which Dodi Fayed also died.

Last night a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “The Met is currently scoping recent information regarding the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed. This scoping exercise is not complete.”

News that the ex-soldier has suddenly left the country is bound to throw the probe into disarray. Officers were keen to speak to him after he reportedly told his estranged wife that a special forces hit squad was behind the death of Diana. The claims were only made public last month.

One source said: “Soldier N is key to this inquiry as he is the person who made the claims. Pressure on him has been mounting since the original story broke last month. He was aware police wanted to interview him.

“No one can be sure why he has gone.”

Soldier N’s estranged wife revealed that during a conversation in 2011, her husband had claimed Diana, 36, was killed by the SAS.

During the conversation, she remarked to him how sad it was that Prince William’s mother had been killed, only for him to reportedly reply: “As a matter of fact, it was the Regiment that did it.”

Soldier N allegedly further told his wife that the car crash in Paris was caused after an SAS hit team flashed a blinding light at Diana’s driver Henri Paul. The claim appears to support testimony from a former MI6 spy at the inquest into Diana and 42-year-old Dodi who told of a colleague’s plan to kill Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic by using a strobe light in a tunnel to distract his driver.

He revealed the existence of a shadowy unit within the SAS known as The Increment for the purposes of carrying out lethal operations on behalf of MI6.

Soldier N’s claims were later documented in a seven-page letter written by his mother-in- law in September 2011 when his marriage had disintegrated.

The letter was then passed to Dyfed-Powys police, but not acted upon.

Allegations that the SAS was involved in the deaths were passed to the Yard in July of this year.

Detective Chief Inspector Philip Easton – who worked on the Yard’s multi-million pound inquiry into Diana and Dodi’s deaths – and a Scotland Yard colleague, travelled to a secret location to interview both women a few weeks ago.

The letter containing the original allegations was handed to the Yard following the court martial of another SAS sniper Danny Nightingale in July.

Sgt Nightingale and Soldier N were arrested in 2011 after police found firearms and ammunition illegally held at a home they shared.

Soldier N admitted the offences and was sentenced to two years at a military corrective training centre. Nightingale admitted the charges and got 18 months.

Following a campaign, he was released and the conviction quashed. At a fresh trial in July, Nightingale was found guilty and sentenced to two years suspended for 12 months. He was convicted largely on the testimony of Soldier N.

The allegations of SAS involvement emerged soon afterwards.

Paul, 41, also died when the Mercedes he was driving smashed into a pillar in the Pont de L’Alma underpass in Paris in August 1997.

In April 2008, an inquest jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing into Diana’s death.

Should the 1% pay no taxes?!

The 99% Owe “A Debt of Gratitude” to the 1%: Harry Binswanger

Millionaires shouldn't pay taxes because they've "done enough for the world," says Harry Binswanger.

The 99% will not be happy with Harry Binswanger.

The former college professor and board member of the Ayn Rand Institute wrote an incendiarycolumn this month in Forbes, arguing that “the community should give back to the wealth-creators” and the world should be indebted to the rich and powerful for “their enormous contributions to our standard of living.”

Binswanger sat down with The Daily Ticker’s Aaron Task and Henry Blodget to defend his controversial views. He also reiterated his call that anyone who earns more than $1 million a year deserves an exemption from paying taxes, a “symbolic gesture” he notes, because the “great achievers” (individuals like Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and Steve Jobs) “lifted us out of the cave and gave us our standard of living.” He also proposes that the highest earner of the year – maybe an investment banker, hedge fund manager or CEO – be given a Congressional Medal of Honor in return for his or her contribution to human life.

If millionaires do not pay taxes, do they still get the benefits of public assets, such as the military, firefighters, police officers, court of law and public schools? Watch the video above to see how Binswanger responds and check out who he ranks as the most influential person of all time: Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein or Mother Teresa?

U.S. Is Broke, Can’t Afford to Raise the Debt Ceiling says Peter Schiff
By | Breakout21 hours ago

You can be forgiven for confusing the ongoing debt ceiling debate with the 2011 debacle. Then as now, the debate points of contention were serious issues but the dialogue quickly descended into self-destructive inanity on both sides of the aisle.

In August of '11 America gridlock led to the U.S. credit rating was downgraded and markets were plunged into temporary chaos. It proved to be a buying opportunity but in reality this time might be worse.

According to Peter Schiff, CEO of Euro Pacific Capital and author of the book The Real Crash: America's Coming Bankruptcy, the best that can be said about our current situation is that we don't have to worry about another downgrade. The government made sure of that. "They already sued S&P (MHFI) for downgrading the U.S. last time," Schiff says, referring to a government lawsuit that Standard & Poor's claims is indirect punishment for taking down U.S. credit. "Nobody is going to downgrade the U.S. Treasury, no matter what."

Not that it matters to Schiff. The foreign nations buying US debt recognize a bad deal when they see it. Once those customers realize that Treasury paper is the equivalent of junk regardless of the official rating the buying will dry up and disastrous endgame will begin.

Count Schiff among those firmly believe the debt ceiling shouldn't be raised at any cost, even it means shutting down the government. Constantly raising the debt ceiling to, in effect, live beyond our means is the root of America's credit problem. Kicking the can down the road only makes the day of reckoning worse.

"The reasons we have to raise our debt ceiling is because we can't pay our bills," Schiff says. "We're broke and we can't pay for anything, we have to keep going deeper and deeper into debt."

Shiff actually ran for Senate to lead a filibuster, making sure the debt ceiling never got raised. He argues that doing so would force the government to cut spending down simply by depriving it of the funds. In theory he's on to something. In practice the debate over which programs would be slashed to meet the government payroll would make the ongoing debacle look like a flash in the pan.

Whatever discipline the Financial Crisis could or should have imposed on the government was more than offset by monetary stimulus. The Fed is theoretically apolitical, but in practice it is an enabler of both parties.

At the moment, Wall Street is betting that the debt ceiling will be raised or some form of meaningless compromise will be reached. When push comes to shove, America won't default and both sides are too married to pork to come up with real cuts. When balanced budgets come out of Washington it only leads to more spending. We are who we are.

With the ratings agencies either muzzled or irrelevant, the stakes are going to have to be raised before the public even takes serious notice of what's happening. History rhymes, but it doesn't repeat. If "this time is different" and the government is shut down, the air-pocket downside to your investments is sure to get your attention.
