I had the good pleasure to meet Jon Vickers in Israel in 1972 when he was singing Samson in "Samson and Delilah" at the ancient amphitheatre, Caesarea, during the Israel Festival. My friend and colleague, the great Wagnerian singer Norman Bailey was the High Priest in that opera and during rehearsals I used to travel in a taxi together with Jon Vickers, Norman and Yvonne Minton (Delilah) from the Israel Philharmonic Guest House to the rehearsals at Caesarea every afternoon! Yes, Jon was a wonderful tenor!
