	Joel Brinkley: What tyrants fear most: social media November 27, 2012\|American Voices \| Tribune Media Services Most of the world's dictators share a common fear, and it's not of the United States, NATO, the United Nations or any outside entity. No, the force that most threatens them is social media. Originally designed as enhanced online chat forums for young Americans, Facebook, Twitter, blogs and the rest have spread around the world and are now being used as cudgels against authoritarian leaders in places like Vietnam, Russia, Belarus and Bahrain. In those states and so many others, the leaders are attacking tweeters and bloggers as if they were armed revolutionaries. And the repression is spreading. In India a few days ago, a 21-year-old medical student posted a mildly critical comment about a Hindu political figure who'd just died. Within 24 hours, police arrested her and a friend who had "liked" the student's Facebook post and charged them with engaging in hateful, offensive speech -- this in one of the world's strongest democracies. (Police let them go a few days later.) A more typical example comes from Belarus. There, President Alexander Lukashenko, commonly known as Europe's last dictator, seems to be fighting online verbiage all the time. Recently, Ecuador's Supreme Court turned down an extradition request from Belarus for a blogger who fled there after the government charged him with fraud. Alexander Barankov had been blogging about widespread government corruption. That particular extradition denial stands as a bold demonstration of the fraud charge's absurdity because Rafael Correa, Ecuador's president and an acolyte of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, is no champion of press freedom. Far from it. And yet he defied the Belarus request. Baranakov is hardly the only example. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe declaimed Lukashenko's record of arresting journalists and bloggers, saying "unfortunately recent detentions and searches in Minsk and elsewhere in the country show continued efforts to muzzle dissenting voices and clamp down on freedom of expression online." Iran, not surprisingly, is even tougher. Bloggers are given long prison terms or sentenced to death, charged with "enmity against God" and subverting national security. Human-rights groups say the bloggers and tweeters are tortured in jail. In mid-November, one died in police custody for unexplained reasons. Iran is actually trying to set up its own internal Internet. There, the government says, "unregulated social media and other content likely to encourage dissent" simply won't be available. But the sad truth is, the dictators whose people are the most repressed -- locked in abject poverty -- don't have to worry about the social-media problem. In Laos, Cambodia, Eritrea, Mozambique and a handful of other states, most people have no access to computers or cell phones. Many of them are illiterate and couldn't use the devices even if they had them. That leaves their leaders to trample over their rights with near-full impunity. China demonstrates this better than any nation. The state's economic-development program pulled millions of Chinese out of poverty. Previously, Chinese were relatively quiescent. But with prosperity came a new understanding of how venal and repressive the Chinese Communist Party really is. So millions of Chinese took to new social-media platforms to complain. Now China spends more money on internal security -- including a massive online censorship office -- than it does on its military. Persistent online critics are imprisoned or worse. That demonstrates a clear fact: The Chinese government fears its own people far more than it does any outside power. Other states are catching up. Russia is implementing a massive new online Internet filtering system, ostensibly to protect children from offensive sites. But human-rights advocates are warning that it can just as easily be used to block social-media commentary the government doesn't like. In Oman this fall, six people were jailed for defaming the state on Facebook. That came after the National Human Rights Commission of Oman (an oxymoron if I've ever heard one) labeled those posts and others "negative writings that violate Islamic principles." Nearby, Bahrain is trying to have it both ways. On the one hand, it jailed a human-rights advocate for tweeting criticism of the nation's tyrannical prime minister. Then authorities arrested four more Bahrainis for Twitter posts considered to be critical of the king. At the same time, though, the government allowed one of the state's biggest companies, a telecom provider named Zain Bahrain, to sponsor a major business conference there, undoubtedly because it will be quite profitable for the island's hotels, restaurants and other travel-related businesses. What was the conference about? It's title: The Social Media Masters Forum. So quickly the days fly by! How would you care to start today? I personally am unsure as to what we shall discuss now. We have spoken of LOVE and we shall keep on speaking of it I guess. It all FEELS a bit odd as to where we go from here and what our mission is! *Galactic Federation of Light:* We would enjoy stating quite clearly that our mission is to help you understand who you are! This has the rippling effect of lifting the planet Earth into a Higher resourceful level which will have you ALL KNOWING that LIFE … LIFE IN ALL ITS GLORY … gets a whole lot better than you currently think it can be. We have watched energies deplete over the last weeks of your time. Some have felt the need to retreat into a corner. They have a need to put a blanket over their head and never again emerge … so strong was their disappointment of ‘nothing’ taking place on the date that they had focused ‘their life’ upon. Others have exceeded all expectation of themselves and are experiencing a NEW EARTH. It is THEY themselves that have CHANGED into the next phase of themselves and they are receiving so much joy and wonder from every moment of thought. There are those too … we would say … much like yourself Blossom … who are in between the two. Do you see dearest ones … how … THIS TRANSFORMATION IS YOUR OWN PRIVATE JOURNEY? And yet it is very much a global overall ONE! Indeed this is so. Yet it is through each individual ‘doing their bit’ that makes the whole turn around … turn around! We desire only to uplift. We are aware that many consider US to be the cause of their anxiety … of their disappointed point of view. They put ALL their hope and TRUST into US. From our perspective nothing that we have said has changed direction. ALL that we have offered to you has come from our Greater Knowledge of what is to be/what can be/what will be. Did we not say to you ‘Expect the unexpected’? And now that which you did not expect has arrived … it is up to each one as to HOW THEY CHOOSE to accept WHAT IS! It is deep within your BEINGS dearest ones that you can find the TRUTH of what took place. For we say to you … something HUGE DID transpire on the said date that so many of you relied upon. When one tastes the most glorious of cakes … it is many ingredients that allow the taste to arrive. Yet … what is it that perhaps makes that cake different from most? An ingredient that others have not used before. One that has not been in ‘the mix’ before. We say to you in our TRUTH … you have a new ingredient in your ‘mix’. Some are simply unaware of it, for they did not see it being added into the bowl. Yes … the cake tastes nice … but then it always did. For some they simply at this time refuse to think that this added ingredient could be so subtle. They choose to think that it is not there at all. Yet … there are those that KNOW! They did not see the ingredient being added either … And yet they allow themselves to accept THE FACT that something NEW has been added. And it is this ‘something’ that makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. SO VERY DIFFERENT from the way things tasted before. As this cake is eaten and digested … it is then that the real affect shall begin to shine. Be patient with yourselves dearest ones. All in good time. Mmm! I don’t think that last statement will go down too well with many! Yet we would suggest that one looks at it in its TRUTH. Being patient is something those of us down here FEEL we have done a lot of … and some have lost the will to carry on. To carry on what? To carry on believing. In what? In you. Yet we are not here for a popularity contest dearest ones. Those whose patience has run dry and through the process have decided we are of no use to them are simply choosing to take another path at this time. Yes … I get that … but surely one is wanting more people to ‘get your messages’ as opposed to having those that were once so keen … turn away Blossom … it matters not to us how another chooses to walk their journey. All we desire is that they find the LOVE within themselves in order to create the world that everyone desires to live in. We cannot ‘Take hold’ of another’s ambitions and dreams and expect them to always ‘Do it our way’. That would certainly not be of our choosing. We desire for a soul to find their own TRUTH through whatever way ‘Floats their boat’. Yet … surely … it is desirable for more and more to be ‘tuned into you’? Why? Because then we can manifest our union with greater ease … and more quickly Yet … what we are doing is … what we are doing. In the same way you choose to continue to communicate with us … we continue to communicate with you … because we FEEL it is beneficial to the whole … to the upliftment of mankind and indeed your planet. We cannot control the outcome of anything. Each individual is in control of their own outcome. This NEW WAY shall become more and more apparent to each as they allow themselves to flow with the NEW ENERGIES. Some may FEEL that this CHANGE … this form of Enlightenment only happened to a select few. This we would say is not how it was. We would say that each one … no matter what stage of your journey you are upon/within … received a GREATER LIGHT energy into their BEING. Just because it did not come the way one ‘expected’ does not mean it did not happen. Yet until one is fully complete in their distinction between the old and the new … they will take a little time to discover their new reality. Yet … discover it they will. Little by little one will notice the subtleties that are occurring. One will recognise that they no longer are concerned with trivialities that once consumed them. They are FEELING the bigger picture … simply by complying with the FEELING … the KNOWING … that a CHANGE has occurred … within them. Inside of themselves. There is a combination of ‘seeing’ and ‘understanding’ that is moving one into a place of ‘Peace’. For those who were so bitterly disappointed … indeed disillusioned … we continue to have our ‘scouts’ seek them out and offer them upliftment of their very soul. Their dismay is purely temporary … for those who KNOW LIGHT cannot turn away from it … not for long. What we consider to be of most importance is not that you desire to ‘merge with us’ … although we say without hesitation this shall come about when all is in place. What we desire is that you open your hearts to an even Greater Awareness … of WHAT IS. For within that awareness you discover WHO YOU ARE. Once this is accomplished there shall be little need for anything we say to enhance your journey … for you shall have all knowledge at your fingertips. OK … speaking of journeys … A little matter I would like to bring up with you. Last year I mentioned that I was going to England to visit my mother for the first time in almost 9 years. You made the comment that by then, (this Feb) there may not be the need to even buy a ticket. It was received in the energy of a little ‘tongue in cheek’, yet … clearly … it is blatantly obvious that we are nowhere near that form of advanced transportation. So … that leaves me confused as to why you would say that? … and in all honesty … makes me question the ‘quality’ of my work with you. I’ll be interested to see how you answer this. Dearest Blossom. How we respect your desire for TRUTH. At the time when this was discussed we considered it important for the expectation of NEW WAYS to remain in ones focus. May we say here … we did not say if we recall that this would definitely be the case. Did you believe that it was No. Then what you believed you have created. We are aware that you are not altogether convinced of our reply. Don’t get me wrong I am a number one fan of ‘thought creating reality’ … Yet for me … I could not see that happening within the time frame … assuming we are talking of teleportation. We wonder then how many FELT the same as you. How many thought ‘well I doubt that … but let’s just wait and see’. Hmm! I am beginning to FEEL where this is going. UPWARDS! Do you not see that it is NOT UP TO US to bring these things about? … IT IS UP TO YOU! You mean by creating the thought of ‘teleportation’ in our mind? Exactly! Yet is it not that you are waiting for us to come and show you how it is done? Well yes …. I can’t even ride a bike that well! Keep with us on this matter for it is of importance. YES … without a shadow of a doubt we have the means … the technology … the where with all … to be exactly where we desire to be in an instant … and for us … we also have the ability to ‘be there’ in whatever form we choose to ‘appear’. As much as this is an incredible phenomenon to you … it is very much matter of fact to us. For like anything … when one understands the workings of … the ‘how’ … then it no longer seems an impossibility. Yet … for you personally Blossom … you do KNOW that this is possible. Is this not so? Sure. Yet no idea HOW it is accomplished. How often do you visualise yourself teleporting to a particular destination? Hardly ever … eh … never! I made a joke about it when on my trip to The States due to the craziness of customs etc. So you admit to not having it within your possible radar? Oh … as I say … I know it is possible , yet I don’t give it much thought … if any! So you are saying then … that all these things that we think YOU are to bring with you concerning ‘out there technology’ … has to be visualised in thought by us first and foremost Of course. All these things that you are hoping for HAVE TO BECOME A REALITY IN YOUR MIND. NOT A HOPE … A KNOWING. Yet … thousands of us … if not millions … I have no idea about numbers … think of YOU coming to join us in our reality … and I have to say … I SEE NO SHIPS. Yet many do! The more of you that create our reunion … the quicker it shall come about. What we are about to say you may find rather odd. And that’s new and different because … We ask of you to let go of HOPE. Yep. That is new and different. HOPE is something that you really WANT to happen. It gives one the FEELING of a CHANGE for the better does it not?’ Indeed … so what on Earth do you mean? We mean that we wish you to let go … for instance … of THE HOPE … that we are coming and shall reunite as a family. We ask you to CHANGE HOPE INTO KNOWING that we are coming to reunite as a family. THERE IS A VAST DIFFERENCE … A WORLD APART …. from HOPING AND KNOWING. Do you see? Yes I do. So after all we have been through … not to play at the heart strings and complain … it is not of that … but how do we CHANGE that HOPING into a KNOWING? By visiting s deeper part of yourself. By letting go of all expectations of WHAT MAYBE … and simply allowing the WHAT WILL BE … TO BE … WHEN IT IS! I do understand what you are saying. I have had this conversation recently … that no matter how much we seem to ‘FEEL let down’ through our own choosing of course … there is still this DEEP KNOWING that THE EVENT … the ‘You having a cup of tea with me’ … will ONE DAY BE a reality. Yes … we accept this KNOWING … yet may we question as to how much of a HOPE is also involved? Well, for me … if we let go of hope … And replace it with KNOWING … Yep! I got it. Truly I just got it. Thank you … I will definitely work towards that … yet surely it is not a matter of convincing oneself. Not at all. It is a matter of transferring what one hoped for into … getting it! How? By going to the deepest place within where all information is stored and ‘pulling out the file’ of that which you choose to create. When you revise this file you will recall its TRUTH and no longer ‘hope’ for ‘such and such’ to be a way of your world … once you KNOW it … you can create it. And do we get that deep inside ourselves by meditating? Of course … and by many other methods… Joy… Love … Laughter … Service … Giving … Receiving … shall we continue? Nope … I get the gist. The happier you choose to be … the easier and the sooner you KNOW! Thanks chaps /chapesses! I’ll certainly do my best. Like with all your wisdom offered, I FEEL it is to be received on a deeper level of ourselves … Not sure how to do that … other than just ‘ask it to be’. All around your world awakening is continuing and much is still transpiring below the surface. You have been a major part of that, although all of you may not actually see or experience all that has transpired and all that is bubbling below the surface and below the radar, so to speak. Our love for you abounds and our respect for you does as well, as you continue refining your energies to accommodate the higher realms. Remember that what you perceive may not always be what is real and part of your new dimensionality. You are making your way steadily and surely. Now more than ever it is important to pay attention to your thoughts, as the possibility for instant manifestation is now even greater. We ever guide you but it is important that you do not continue along the vein of delving into thoughts or commitments that abide by the old ways of duality. Your Light Bodies have transformed, your vibrations have risen, and many are tapping into and/or living in the 5th and 6th dimensions already. For others, it is a gradual process, but all have progressed to the extent that their contracts and life plans and intentions and mind-sets have allowed. Much may still be bubbling below the surface waiting for your acceptance and nurturing. So, steadfastness and determination will keep you on track to the higher realms and as well for the glorious development and unveiling of New Earth. Peace has to first become a constant dweller in your heart for you to see it manifest outside of you, so please continue on with your diligent meditations and ministrations of your desires for a world full of Love, Peace and Harmony. Just like a farmer’s field may have many dormant seeds lying beneath the surface, unseeable and seemingly unattainable, with the right nurturing and ministration the Spring will yield an abundance of brand new shoots of delicate vegetation intent on nurturing and feeding the multitudes. There is still so much Love and Light intent on reaching you at this moment. Continue to take it in and there will be times, if you allow it, where there will be an increased intensity of this Love and Light available to you, enough to forge you ahead on your continued journey towards enlightenment and the higher dimensions, if you are remaining open and focused on its reception. Most of you have begun to emerge from what you would describe as a ‘funk’. You do have some wonderful words. Now what is to be done? It is only necessary for you to maintain your focus on your inner selves, on connecting more and more closely with your hearts. Learn to act from that place. You will find that among the things which will happen are a knowing of what you must do next and the arrival of circumstances which will allow movement. The ‘bravery’ or ‘faith’, or whatever you wish to call what it will take to make the first step, you will find in the same place you found that knowing. These are not simple things, my friends… unless they are. These are the steps of masters. Masters do not always need to do vast world changing things. Masters just must take the first step and then of course the next. But you will agree that you may not begin by taking the second step. And you need to also understand that you are where you are because that is precisely where your first step must be taken. There are many billions of you there at this moment, each in the position to take a first step. You only need to worry about your own. Imagine tomorrow’s world in which everyone had taken that first step today. There are first steps being taken today, dear friends, as well as second ones, and indeed, some which are very near to final ones. Only concern yourselves with what it is your heart wishes to accomplish where you are. The rest will be handled quite nicely by your fellows. You will find now that, as all of the former obstacles are discovered to be gone, much more will begin to be accomplished than you have seen in your lifetime so far. You will also find that the obstacles to your own personal growth are no longer so formidable. This year you will discover how very powerful you and your fellow humans truly are. But the final steps will not come first any more than they ever have. Many times you may find it necessary to return to your hearts and renew your strength. At those times, do not forget to ask us for our help. End each day with gratitude for what you have done or learned, and begin each day with gratitude for the new opportunities it brings. Do what is yours to do, but keep always in your hearts your connection to the whole. That this is no ordinary year will soon become apparent. We think you are beginning to understand how very special and wonderful you are and are becoming. We are overjoyed in what you are doing. The old times of constant conflict, disagreement, and mistrust are to fade away into the mists of time, forgiven and forgotten, as you move gloriously ahead to engage in many new ventures that will bring you unimaginable satisfaction. It is indeed correct to refer to these new times as a New Age because so much is changing, so much is being renewed, and so much that is completely new is coming into being. The old ways that taught and encouraged rugged individualism as the only reliable life path to ensure your survival in an unsafe and threatening world were never valid. They seemed to work for those who were strong and confident, but in fact no one was particularly strong or confident; they just donned masks that hid their fears and anxieties and often succeeded in convincing others that they were invincible – until it became apparent that they were not, and other masked pretenders or role-players replaced them. Now awareness is growing rapidly that behind the apparent power and might of authority -figures and organizations there is a vacuum, an emptiness in which individuals are constantly fighting one another for control. At times it appears that a strong person is in charge, but this only occurs fleetingly when the organization itself seems threatened; the norm is constant vying for control between groups and individuals within the organization. Many have been aware of this for eons, but their interest has been solely in arranging for the transfer of that authority from the current holders to new ones espoused by those who demand change. However, this newly expanded sense of awareness throughout humanity is leading to the realization that authority in the form of government agencies, and throughout educational, health-care, political, social, and religious organizations is a means to control and suppress individuals and deprive them of their human rights. The reasoning constantly offered to justify these authoritarian measures is that they are essential for the safety and security of the majority, when in fact the true agenda is purely to preserve the power and authority of those at the summit of those organizations who believe that they have an inalienable right to that power and control. And it is a right that they had no intention of relinquishing. In this New Age people no longer feel automatically beholden to those who claim authority over them, and as authority only works when people generally accept it, the age of massive agencies of control is finished. It started to become apparent over thirty years ago as the eastern European states began to disentangle themselves from the grip of the Soviet Union which then itself broke apart. That disentanglement from rigid and inflexible power structures is continuing apace right across the planet, and signs of it are apparent everywhere. At times it seems to threaten the very foundations of civilization – and of course it does because civilization needs to become civilized ― which is a very new concept indeed! In previous times civilization meant the crushing and suppressing of the weak by the strong, who claimed to have better methods of running and controlling society for the general good. Now civilization is to re-engage with the true meaning of that word: a civilized society is one which respects and honors all life forms while continuing to further its own education as it strives for the spiritual enlightenment of all mankind, yet never imposing its own beliefs, judgments, or opinions on others. It offers loving encouragement and assistance to all who seek it because its sole purpose is to serve the needs of all its members. The New Age has arrived, so engage with it joyfully and fruitfully from your hearts as they fill with Love from the divine field in which you are all enveloped, and which is constantly increasing the power and intensity of its presence in your lives. Expect happiness and satisfaction to expand and fill your lives until there is no area within them where the slightest sense of dissatisfaction remains. With so very much love, Saul.
