Feel Good News: Sunday, April 19, 2015

feelgoodnewstoesHappy Sunday, dear friends. Due to the miracle of technology, I am able to visit with you across time and space! I am away in Boston on this fine day, at Fenway Park!

For the first time in five years, my husband and I get a weekend away to enjoy a baseball game. Many of you know that we adore baseball, and used to go to games regularly. Financial challenges ended that practice for a while, as funding had to go to other things.

What we learned, in the last five years, was that we don’t have to spend money to have a good time. Simple things like hikes, or bringing a picnic to the beach are really just as fun as going out on the town!

We also found that the more energy we spent worrying about what we lost, the less time we had for enjoying the blessings that we retained. When we calmed down, we also realized that we didn’t miss these things that much anyway.

It’s an odd side-effect.The more one does something, the less exciting and special it becomes. Think of going to the same fancy restaurant every weekend for a few months, and you will get the picture.

While some things never lose their special nature, like a warm hug, or sunshine on our face, we have found that material things and experiences certainly can. It’s almost as if this is an additional way to find the important things in our lives. The good things never get old.

This was a beneficial discovery in our challenging five year process, and like most of the things we went through during this time, we are deeply grateful for this knowledge.

Go Sox!

Newly Weds ditch their honeymoon to practice random acts of kindness across the US.

Mark and Ismini Svensson were young and in love when they decided to get married, but they also had an intense drive to be in service to others. The couple choose to use the money they would have put towards a reception and honeymoon, to travel the US for a year doing random acts of kindness.

Ismini also wanted to honor her father, who had recently passed away after a charity event he had planned, so the two created a non-profit called Stay United that supports and inspires others to do random acts of kindness via social media. The charity also supports better education and health for youth in the New York area.

While their “50 Acts of Kindness” selfless adventure has come to an end, they hope their example will inspire other young couples to forgo the one time, expensive wedding experience in exchange for a lifetime of service and kindness to others. What an expiring example of caring!

A kind note to the person digging through the trash at a family restaurant.

Ashley Jiron, owner of the sandwich shop P.B. Jams, in Warr Acres, Oklahoma noticed that the bags of trash in her dumpster were being opened and carefully sifted through for food. It made her feel sad that a human being had to search in the garbage for something to eat.

She is a single mom and knows financial struggles. She decided to put up a flyer at her restaurant, telling the person that they could come in for a meal, no questions asked.

While the person has yet to come in for a meal, the story spread virally through social media, and has inspired Jiron to set up a program where patrons can pay forward meals for those who have nothing.

I love that a simple act of observation, created such a kind response and others were inspired by the kindness. When one small act creates something bigger to support others, a world that works for everyone is certainly coming into view.

Punk band front-man Henry Rollins speaks to America’s poorest youth.

This video is spell binding in its power. I hope it goes viral so that all kids who feel they got the short end of the stick in life can step forth with courage and focus to make their lives better, and take on the world to make the future better as well.

Rollins points out that the woes of this world are created through weakness and fear, and a childhood of struggle helps make a person stronger and more capable of standing firm in the face of challenge.

He transforms what many see as a deficit into an evolutionary and empowering journey. I am sure that all who hear this will be strengthened by it.

A cat uses its new lease on life to care for others.

My heart jumped for joy when I heard this story. Radamenes, an little black cat in Bydgoszcz, Poland was brought into an animal shelter’s veterinary clinic with a respiratory infection. The people who dropped him off didn’t think he would survive, but when the vet heard him purr, he decided to try and save him.

It turns out that the cat had a life saving mission of its own in mind. Once he recovered from his illness, he took to tending all the other sick animals by cuddling them and cleaning their wounds.

The vet staff now use the cat as a self-trained therapy animal, and all-around loving nurse, and the sick animals respond miraculously! What a lovely way for this feline to pay back the vet clinic for saving its life.

It sounds unbelievable, but it is true. We must remember that all beings on planet are evolving in the new energies, and may act in beautiful ways that have never before been seen.

And finally…

A little dose of kindness.

This award winning video from the Naik Foundation brought tears to my eyes, but also a big smile. I know how this little boy feels. because I have secretly done kind things for strangers and it feels amazing!

Silke Morin: How to Find & Cultivate Your Authentic Self

SilkeMorinLast year I began to do work on myself after a long and difficult time in my life. Part of this work involved examining and changing my habits, motivations and goals in order to become happier and more fulfilled.

In my process of self-reflection, I was able to connect with my authentic self, who I am at my core, underneath of layers of what I do, what I have, and who I am when trying to be what someone else wants me to be. Tapping into my authenticity, my best self, has helped me heal and transform myself.

Here are five things that helped me and can help you to cultivate authenticity and be a happier, healthier person.

1. Identify your core values.

Determine what is most important to you in life. Make a list of five to 10 core values and reflect on how you currently engage with them. If“creativity” is a value you purport to hold high, what are you doing to foster it? Once you have identified your values and the role they play in your life, then you can begin to bridge the gap between just thinking about what’s important to you and actually living it, manifesting your values in your everyday life.

2. Start where you are.

There’s no perfect time to begin to make change. You just have to make the first step, and change will follow. And remember that it’s OK to be imperfect. Bring your weaknesses to the table; either you’ll see how you can grow in these areas, or you may come to recognize that they aren’t weaknesses at all, but secret strengths. Starting exactly where you are, imperfections and all, is being truly human, and that’s authentic.

3. Be persistent.

It’s hard to let go of old and unskillful habits. We’re comfortable with them because they’re what we’ve always done, even if they haven’t been helpful. It will take time and a lot of practice to change, but it’s better to take small steps moving you in the direction you want to go than staying stuck in a place where don’t want to be. Sometimes three steps forward and two steps back is just the reality. Don’t give up.

4. Be forgiving.

There will be times when your words and actions don’t align with your values. You’ll make mistakes, but as you get more in touch with your authentic self, you will recognize the misalignments more quickly. When these disconnects happen, apologize to yourself or to whomever you hurt, and let it go. There’s no sense in holding onto pain or feelings that sabotage your journey. Correct yourself and get back on course.

5. Nourish yourself.

Being your best self is hard work, so take time every day to do the things that feed your soul. Invest in self-care, because it will help empower your capacity for authenticity. You can’t be your best self if you put everyone else’s needs first. You have to love and nourish yourself, too.

Bob Fickes ~ New Moon in Aries: A Time of Challenge

We are in another important phase of our transformation. It is a time to look deep inside and complete the lessons of the past and move into our new life. The New Moon in Aries begins today with all the energy building up to the Full Moon on Wesak. Wesak is the celebration of Buddha’s Enlightenment. The energy is building up towards our own personal Enlightenment as the moon wakes up and gets brighter each day for the next two weeks.

At the same time Pluto is retrograde. Pluto influences our deeper inner nature, particularly the things that we are resisting to change inside our self. Pluto will push us to change the things that don’t work in our lives and forces us to discover new things to do that will make us happier. Pluto is death of the old and birth of the new. What a perfect combination of energy with the New Moon in Aries. It is a time of building our future and changing our old habits.
I recommend calling on Kannon to send her healing energy to help us. Kannon also sits on the Board of Karma, so she is the most likely Master to call on for assistance during this time of challenges. Do an offering to Kannon with five oranges, five cups of tea, and flowers. The best time for this offering is tonight when the energy will first start to build up. Ask Kannon to help you make changes in your life that will prepare you to welcome in the energy of Wesak. Ask for insight and Enlightenment and freedom to enjoy your life as you really want to live it. Many Blessings will come to you during this time if you are willing to let go of your past and begin a New Life.

NorthPoint ASTROLOGY JOURNAL: Your Guide to Planetary Energies for April 20-26, 2015, by Pam Younghans

YESTERDAY’S NEW MOON (on Saturday, April 18) was in Aries, establishing this lunar cycle as a time when we can begin anew, and supporting us with the courage we need to enter new territory. We may be pioneering for ourselves, or leading the way for others, or a combination of both.

It is an exciting time, that perhaps will lead to some sleepless nights this week, due to our over-active minds. Even though we may gain some stability when the Sun enters placid Taurus on Monday, there are many planetary indicators of heightened mental activity throughout the rest of the week.

ONE OF THESE indicators is also on Monday, when Jupiter in Leo squares Mercury in Taurus. With this aspect, our enthusiasm may be running ahead of our planning. We may wonder if we really have enough things figured out on a practical level to make it all work, especially since it seems like we’re adding more items to our “to-do” list every few minutes.

But, Mercury and Mars are heading for their annual alignment on Wednesday, supporting us in taking action on our ideas. It’s nice that this alignment occurs in practical, earthy Taurus, since it will help us keep our feet on the ground even if we’re feeling a bit breathless over life’s rapid pace.

PLUTO forms helpful trine aspects to Mars on Tuesday and to Mercury on Wednesday, adding to the power behind their conjunction. Trines do not force us into action, but they help open doors so that what we are doing feels like “the natural next step” rather than a break from our path.

Pluto can be a powerful ally, especially when involved in trine aspects. The trine to Mars puts us into high gear as we become even more passionate about pursuing our desires, while the trine to Mercury adds to our determination to see our plans through to fruition.

WE MAY HAVE a reality check on Thursday, as Saturn makes a quincunx to the Sun. Quincunx aspects usually call for an attitude adjustment, and with the Sun in Taurus receiving the energy of Saturn in Sagittarius, we may become more aware of the changes that will need to occur if we actually take the new trajectory we’re considering (or may have already chosen).

With a Pluto-Venus quincunx on Friday, we may also realize that adjustments are needed in how we prioritize our time. This will require that we look closely at what we really value, and restructure our lives accordingly.

WE CONTINUE to confront our resistance to change on Saturday, through challenging aspects between the Taurus Sun, Chiron, and Ceres. With Chiron in Pisces, we may need to ask ourselves, “Can I have faith in the Universe and in positive outcomes, even if they are outside my conscious control, and I cannot yet see them?” If the answer to this question is “No,” or even “Maybe,” this is a perfect time to express love and compassion for the small fearful child within who is not quite sure about all this “faith in the Universe” stuff.

The Sun-Ceres square, also on Saturday, is a challenge to any remaining lack of self-esteem that could interfere with our chosen course of action. We will benefit from remembering that with Ceres in Aquarius, we find self-worth and self-acceptance when we claim our individuality and follow the path we internally know is right for us, even if it will require us to make choices that seem impractical, and even it means that we are no longer opting to do what someone of our age or situation “should” do.

With those inner conflicts to start the weekend, it’s lovely that we have a Uranus-Venus sextile on Sunday! This aspect can help reinvigorate our excitement about what’s next, and connect us with like-minded others who can support our new directions.

In peace,

Pam
