"Roma" is word prescribed by most of worldly authorities, when we wish to speak of Gypsies. If a deep love and appreciation (only feelings which I have for them) can be offensive - calling them Gypsies, I will stop talking about them (but, just stop talking :) ) . I think our newest civilization achievement, to give them a new name , is one attempt more to put all what is IN ORDER (as we consider things to be in order :) ).
Here, I will not talk anymore about who Tsiganes, Zigeuners, Gitanos, Bohemians, Egyptians, Gypsies; Roma - WHO THEY ARE? A Case Of Mistaken Identity... Or ...
No! Here, they will talk (or, better to say) SING AND PLAY THEIR IDENTITY - as one of the truest SAGAS about themselves.
So What Is Gypsy Music?
Russian Gypsy Musics, Romanian Gypsy Musics, Serbian Gypsy Musics, Hungarian Gypsy Music.....Turkish Gypsy Music..... Flamenco... Gypsy Jazz...Because the Roma have lived and played in such diverse lands, a bewilderingly wide assortment of music can all be lumped into the generic category of "Gypsy Music." So, there`s no PURE GYPSY MUSICS, just because everywhere where they played it, they have incorporated something of local "musical ornaments" , BUT there`s a distinctive musical style, which can always be associated with Gypsy player. Gypsies were credited, i.e. for bringing the clarinet into the musics of Greece. Also, their singers achieve a special microtonal effects (specially by the Romanian Gypsies), while the melismatic and a free style can be a reference to a heritage of middle east and Indian style. What is also very striking is an emotive aspect of their musics (plenty of drama and flash).
However, the best conclusion may be : THERE`S NO CONCLUSION.
