7:51 - An anniversary. It was 43 years ago that I took my first airline flight and arrived in Monterey, California to attend German courses at the Defense Language Institute there. I had graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson the day before. A hungover drill sergeant drove me and two other guys to the airport in Columbia, South Carolina. I got airsick going over the Rockies.

Today, I have been visited by Jan Green from Decatur, Georgia. Thanks Jan.

7:27 AM - An amount of sadness today after the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas. I was stationed there at one time and lived next door to the post, in Copperas Cove, for several years. I just moved from there in June of this year. It's a little strange to see streets and sights so familiar to me displayed on national news and the Atlanta stations as well.

So far today, a new friend, Danita Copeland from Alameda, California has dropped by. Thank you for the visit, Danita, and thanks for being my friend.'
