That's a wonderful testimony of finding assurance of salvation. I'm so glad you were willing to share it so freely. Someone else may just have needed to read that.
I got my own assurance of salvation at about age 12, though I had prayed the sinners' prayer at age 9. I'd begun to think I'd never measure up and live the perfect Christian life.
Then while carrying my baby sister around at the back of our small one-room country school turned church, I heard the minister (Mom's cousin) explain about all the times the words, "That ye may know.." appear in 1 John chapter 5. He said to go study that chapter for assurance of salvation. I was too busy to look it up at the time, but did it that afternoon on the shady side of the house, and realized that I did believe, and that believing made me saved. I have never doubted it since!
