Question: Marketing to Niches
12/8/2005 12:56:53 PM
Hi In the Open for questions forum, Larry asked; ========================================= How and where do i market 2 (or more) niches? One is very specific and will take a little longer to setup with all the copy, planning and so on. That is the Trading and investment niche. The second is to market as an affiliate for various products and services related to Internet Marketing. And which is Adland Pro more suited to? ========================================= There are really two ways to reach a particular niche. One way is through search engines. The other way is through established sites that target that niche. For example, with trading and investment. 1) You can reach some of your market through search engines. In order to do that, you have to know how to do keyword research. (See Steven's Keyword question for more info) 2) You can also reach your target market through established sites. For example, there may be popular blogs, forums and newsletters in the trading and investment genre. There are article sites that have categories for traders and investors to post articles and information. The only thing about using existing sites and communities is that you MUST come across as a professional, and you must be contributing to discussiong, not posting ads. Within niche communities, people are usually really hard on anyone that comes in posting ads. But, if they see you as a helpful member that's interacting and offering good advice (good tips, good articles, etc) they will check out who you are and what you do. And which is Adland Pro more suited to?... Adland has such a diverse group of people that I think you can establish yourself as a professional in any area here. But, there's a caveat. The only way to cut through the clutter is to pick a topic and establish yourself as a professional that posts interesting content. Most people don't do that. They just post ad after ad after ad. Here's an example. My "hobby" site sells sewing patterns. (My own, I used to teach sewing part time for years...) If I wanted to promote my sewing patterns here, I would NOT post ads for them repeatedly. Instead, I'd start a forum where anyone that has a sewing problem can ask for help. I'd share free tips. I'd let people know about fabric sales online, like the company that is selling a 10 lb box of fabric for $10. Over time, people would get to know me as the sewing lady... and they WOULD buy my patterns. It's a bit like the theory of the farmer. First we plant the seeds. Then we tend the garden. We weed and water and weed and water some more. Only later do we get to harvest the crop and reap the bounty. Business works that way, too. : ) Linda P.S. Anyone that knows the stock/investment.... perhaps you can offer some tips on reaching that market? And don't forget to leave your url in your sig.

As usual Linda has covered the topic comprehensively. I have recently been working with a little known program called MPAM which specialises in creating Niche sites, then coaching you via a series of lessons how to get your website spidered by the search engines. It is not necessarily unique but I've found it very helpful - I'm currently running a niche site on guitar playing - a very wide niche and I've had to really focus on one given area. What I have learnt is that by constantly posting articles a/ through my website and b/ through the net at large - MPAM again is very helpful here - the search engines recognise my site as being constantly updated with fresh information and the articles draw visitors. It's not necessarily easy, but I am very excited about the long term prospects of using these methods.
