Hello my friends, Here is some history tid bits for the history buffs. Have a great Thanksgiving, Kathy Martin 1642: Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman discovers the island of Tasmania off the coast of Australia. 1859: Charles Darwin offers a new spin on how we got here with the publication of his still-controversial On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. 1874: Life soon becomes easier for cattlemen as the first US patent is awarded to Joseph Glidden for barbed wire. 1989: Communism continues to wilt as the leadership of the Communist Party resigns in Czechoslovakia.

Thank you for these little tidbits of history, Kathy! History is of incredible importance to our lives. History is not just a window on the past, but it is also a way of predicting what will happen in the future. By looking at past events and seeing how they played out, we can understand the pros and cons of the direction we are taking now and hopefully avoid repeating old mistakes. Unfortunately, the world in general tends to ignore history, so the terrible mistakes that were made in the past keep repeating themselves. Mankind has a history of never learning some very important lessons. The good news is that as individuals, we still have the choice of studying history, learning from it, and striving to make the world around us just a little bit better for others. God bless, Dave
