Six Reasons Why I Cannot Serve the Lord
By Rev. Dean Beaty 8/14/09
Proverbs 23:33-34 “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding
of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth;
and thy want as an armed man.” (KJV)
My back is tired, my feet are sore, I cannot get to sleep.
My job has stress, my eyes are dim, my temper I can’t keep.
Beyond all that I have not had a call upon my life.
But I would do most anything, except for my dear wife.
Her back is tired, her feet are sore, she cannot get her rest.
But I thank the Lord for what He’s done, my life is truly blest.
Surely someone else will go to do the work I can’t.
The church is full of eager folk, that truth you’ll surely grant.
They’ll not miss me in my place when Sunday rolls around.
My aunt is ill and I must go to see her out of town.
I’ve got to get away awhile from the madness around here.
Next month starts my three weeks off from the job I work all year.
I’m sure the Lord will fill my spot till I rest up a bit,
Then I can start to serve the Lord and never, never quit.
This is the pledge of many folk but something will arise,
To keep them from the call of God and win the goodly prize.
