Re: Is there such a thing as a "homeless" cat?

Hi Joyce, I have four indoor cats. I do not let them go outside because there are too many dangers for cats or dogs that are allowed to roam. All of my cats were "give-aways". One was living in someone's shed. She couldn't take her in because she already had one cat. Shelley is now 14 years old. Another was taken to a pet store to be given away. He was scared, scrunched in the back of a carrier. His person was a cat rescuer so could not keep him. I felt so sorry for him that I took him in. Toby is now 4 years old. Another one was brought home by my husband. A handicapped man who lived in a trailer couldn't take care of her, especially since she was in heat and yelling. He threatened to throw her outside. Nadeeta is now about 7 years old. Our newest cat was gotten from our local animal shelter as a playmate for our other male cat. Sunny is now 4 years old. They are all different from each other. They do keep us busy and amused. :) DonnaZ

Hi Joyce,

Just to answer Donna, it doesn't matter how many you have they all have their personaities the same as we do.  With cats they always surprise you.  I think that is why they are so intriging.

Living on a farm in my early years, I can tell you cows have personalities as well. I had many a cow as a pet.  Daddy named them all, we had one named Tammy, she would follow me every chance she could. Of course the animals always came to me, I do think I have a special talent with animals.

I had a chicken when I was a kid, named Nancy, she was so ill my grandmother feed her crushed glass more then once and Nancy would always come around.  She would ride around on my shoulder.  I loved that chicken, she died of old age, no one had the heart to kill Nancy.

I have often pictured in my mind of sitting with animals all around me, and loving every minute of it.  Beautiful dream, right  Well this was a walk done memory lane.

Blessings,
Myrna

Hi again Joyce and everyone,

I think I'm also a pet-magnet, especially for the big dogs, i don't know why!  My stepson's 80-pound dog always runs to me first and climbs onto my lap, his entire body on me. Good thing I like him!

I was out walking the other day and a dog jumped out of a parked car window and starting jumping on me and following me around, he had a collar and was just napping in the car!  His owner came out of the house to get him after I had been asking the dog a few times where he lived. Yes, that's normal for me, to have a conversation with a strange dog and expect an answer.  It happens more often than you think!

Donna- that sounds like the perfect family to me! Cali used to getout a lot when she was a kitten, just scoot through my legs and out the door. Well she had been out there her first 7 or 8 weeks so she had to get it out of her system. I had to learn to stop trying to get her back in, by night fall or if it rained she would always go to the same spot in the basement under the back stairway. Last we she got out into the entry way and looked shocked and ran back in. Myrna - I can barely remember staying on my grandfathers' farm. I do remember a friendship with a pig and finding out it had been slaughtered-I think that ended my summers in the country. Kathleen - you remind me of my time living in East Los Angeles, which is a continent away from West Los Angeles where I had been living. There were packs of pit bulls that roamed the streets. Like the Michael Vick enterprise-there are (at least when I was there) groups of people who hold dog fights, consequently a lot of animals are born that don't belong to anybody. They form packs and run wild to survive. I had to walk to and from the bus stop which was a looooooooooooooooong walk. Somehow, they seemed to form this escort every day to see me safely to the bus and back home. I hope we get a few more Cat People to weigh in, the author of the last article I used was so happy that we had read it.

I have not owned a cat since my last elementary school days.  There is a photo of my "Kitty" somewhere in my boxes of photos.  I will look for it come back and share the photo.

Kitty looked very similiar to this cat
