Hi Jayson,
When I was in first grade, I refused to do subtraction, even though I knew it would make my math grade lower. It just seemed like a backwards thing to do, to subtract anything from what I already had, why would I do that? So I would ADD the numbers on the subtraction questions, and I knew they would be marked wrong, but I absolutely refused to subtract.
About the sun setting here in the Grand River, that makes perfect sense since it sets in the west and the river is west of our house...AND the river is the main thing here in Grand Rapids. But the sun rises east, so that would be directly up the hill, rising over the gas station or the diner or Burger King, also makes much sense that the sun would rise where there's coffee and food!!
The moon? Ahhh who cares!?
When I was kid, the river in the town where I grew up was south so it had nothing to do with the sun, but the ice-cream truck would drive up from the west side every evening and the sun would set soon after that, in the same direction, so of course, ice-cream truck=sunset.
