Kids are, for lack of a better term, dim-witted. They believe things that are rediculous and illogical.

Take me for example. When I was younger, I thought it was illegal to count past the number 35 if you were under a certain age. Doing so would result in a penalty of being thrown off a cliff. I don't know how I created such an insane stipulation, but I did.

Another one was thinking that both the sun and the moon rose and set in the river thats a few blocks from our house. It must be a big river duuuuuuhhhh.

Hello Jayson,

I hear what you are saying and also remember believing
many things that in maturity and knowledge or experience
does not compute either.

Children are so trusting, they believe what they are told and
especially from people they know and also have authority
over them.

The young mind does not have the age and maturity to
ponder over whether their thinking and belief is logical or
ridiculous.  This is where I reckon adults and especially
parents have a huge responsibility to teach children the
truth, but in small doses that they understand at the age
they are at, then add more as they get older or when they
ask more questions.

I hated it when I got older and thought things out for myself
that my parents had lied to me, because they were trying to
protect me from the pitfalls of life.  My trust in them became
flawed for awhile that I could rely upon them, so I rebelled
which was not a good choice. This was more dangerous to
me than if they had told me truthfully and little at a time as
I could comprehend at my age of learning.

Hi Jayson,

When I was in first grade, I refused to do subtraction, even though I knew it would make my math grade lower.  It just seemed like a backwards thing to do, to subtract anything from what I already had, why would I do that?  So I would ADD the numbers on the subtraction questions, and I knew they would be marked wrong, but I absolutely refused to subtract.

About the sun setting here in the Grand River, that makes perfect sense since it sets in the west and the river is west of our house...AND the river is the main thing here in Grand Rapids.  But the sun rises east, so that would be directly up the hill, rising over the gas station or the diner or Burger King, also makes much sense that the sun would rise where there's coffee and food!!

The moon? Ahhh who cares!?

When I was kid, the river in the town where I grew up was south so it had nothing to do with the sun, but the ice-cream truck would drive up from the west side every evening and the sun would set soon after that, in the same direction, so of course, ice-cream truck=sunset.

Hi Jayson,

You are not dim-witted you are normal.  When I was a kid I called my legs front legs and back legs.  I only have 2 but if anyone else heard me I would have had 4.  I think I am normal...........well maybe not!!!!!!!!!  :-)
